Recording And Printing From Large Test Array?

Mar 22, 2015

I have a program that works, but I would like to know an easier way to record and print from a large array.

Here is what I have

package pa2;
import java.io.IOException;
public class PA2Delegate {
//long[] array = new long[100000];
int arraySize = 100000;
int iterations = 9999;
Long[] array;

Make Array From Some Elements Of Another Large Array?

Jan 22, 2015

When I insert: title, category, year, artist in 4 Strings And when I press "enter" i put those 4 in a array "large", and then when I can start a new music insert with 4 new string elements and add those in the large array..So: I have an array "large" with the length 19 (or so..)(max ~100 or so)Then I what to: get,in a new array "title",the elements:0,4,8,12,16 (from the large array) and put them in a scrollable list. And when I select one element in the title array I then whant to get 3 remaining elements from this. And put it in a array called selection.

So the "large" and the "title" arrays must be dynamically sizes... or be copied to a larger sized..

1 can it be done with arrays?
2 how do dynamically change the size of for example the array "title"?
3 how do I receive the elements 0,4,8,12,16 and so on, (to (
large.length-3) and add it to the title array?

Searching Large Char Array For Matching Substrings

Feb 10, 2015

I have written an algorithm that compares the chars and returns all the found words in a 20x10 puzzle, but not for a 100x50 puzzle.

The puzzles are loaded in via text file and I have confirmed they're loading correctly.

guesses = String[] of search words
puzzle = char[][] of letters

Why it doesn't work on the large array?

Expected output:
word1, word2, word3

Actual output:
[blank line]

Here's the horizontal algorithm (row by row search)

//temp variable
ArrayList<String> temp = new ArrayList<String>();
try {
//for each guess word
for(String word : guesses) {
int count = 0;

How To Test For Array Length Equal To Zero

Mar 15, 2015

I am working on an assignment covering exception handling and am stuck on part of the assignment. How can you test for array length = 0?

When I try something like: if (array.length == 0) on a null array, naturally I get a NullPointerException. I would try something like if (array != null) but both array length of 0 and null array are supposed to throw different expressions.

Personality Test Program Not Changing Array Values

Apr 1, 2014

I'm making a program for school that reads a text file with answers to a personality test and prints the temperament to an output file. Problem is, it sets the temperament for the first person to INFJ and then prints INFJ for the rest of the people too. My code is below, and the input file 'personality.txt' goes like this:

Betty Boop
BABAAAABAAAAAAABAAAABBAAAAAABAAAABABAABAAABABABAABAAAAAABAAAAAABAAAAAA
Snoopy
AABBAABBBBBABABAAAAABABBAABBAAAABBBAAABAABAABABAAAABAABBBBAAABBAABABBB
Bugs Bunny

This is my Code :

public static void main(String[] args) throws FileNotFoundException {
welcome();
Scanner input = new Scanner(new File("personality.txt"));
PrintStream out = new PrintStream(new File("output.txt"));
int[][] outcome = new int[4][2];
double[] percent = new double[4];

Printing Array To TXT

Apr 15, 2014

So for fun I've decided to write a program that can keep track of a simple card game my friends and I designed. I've built a class for an array, that stores the basic stats of each card. I need to be able to access this array from another class, that will print the array information to a file, so we can easily keep track of who's cards have leveled up and their stats. The main class will also be using a random number generator to determine how much damage the attacker/defender deals and takes respectively. So far I have the random number generator built as well. I'm just having issues creating a print to file class and what I need to change in my array class to make it accessible by the other class that prints it to a file.

public class StartingStats {
public static void main(String[] args)
{
//Variable to use for how many spots in a stat array there are
final int statArray = 2;

[code]...

what I need to change so that a print to file class can access EACH array in this array folder. Also if any cookie cutter printToFile class I could use/borrow/change that'd be really useful, as I've never done any printing to file before. Also, the levels of each stat and exp will be changing so that's why I need a separate class to print so that I can call it when it's been updated so we always have the most up to date stats saved.

Printing Each Value In Multidimensional Array Using For Loop

Dec 5, 2014

I want to print each value in the multi-dimensional array using a for loop but there is a problem.

Here is the script:

Java Code:

public class LearningJava
{
public static void main(String[] args) {
int[][] Grid = {
{12, 24, 36, 48, 60},
{1, 3, 5},
[Code] ....

Printing i: 0, x: 12
Printing i: 0, x: 24

Exception in thread "main" Printing i: 0, x: 36

Printing i: 0, x: 48
Printing i: 0, x: 60

java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 5
at LearningJava.main(LearningJava.java:11)

It's suppose to get the length of each array and print all the values in that array and then move to the next one.

I tried adding .length

Java Code: for(int x = 0; x < Grid[i][x].length; x++) mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

but then it doesn't work at all.

Storing Data In Array And Printing To Screen

Jun 2, 2014

My assignment was to create a class and then write a program that uses the methods of the class I created. All the output is correct except for the Question # Missed. It prints [I@1dd0fe7. The wrong question numbers have to be stored into an array and that array printed. I've tried using a for loop to print, rearranging the code, setting the code to how I did in the other methods. I either get this [I@1dd0fe7 -or- a bunch of 0's. I'm not sure if I am calling the method incorrectly, or just do not have the correct set-up to print the array, or if I am just not grabbing the ones that are incorrect.

public class DriverExam {
// Fields
private boolean result;
private int testTotal;
private int numWrong;
private int [] numMissed;
private char [] answerKey;

Not Printing Contents Of Array With Spaces And Commas

Nov 7, 2014

public class ArrayPrinter {
public static void main(String[] args) {
int[] oneD = {5, 6, 7, 8};
PrintArray(oneD);
}
public static void PrintArray(int[] Arr) {
System.out.println ('[');
for (int i =0; i >= Arr.length; i++) {
System.out.print (Arr[i]);
if (i < Arr.length){
System.out.print(", ");
}
System.out.print (']');
}
}
}

I tried to format this to enhance readability but I'm not sure if I managed to improve it any... This code should be printing the contents of the array with spaces and commas its just printing [. I think this is because Arr is empty for some reason but I'm not sure why it would be when it gets the values of oneD passed to it.

Handling Large Numbers

Oct 31, 2014

I found an exercise online to create a small program . I have this code that I have done so far:

import java.util.Scanner;
public class Test {
public static void main(String args[]) {
Scanner sc = new Scanner(System.in);
long a = sc.nextLong(); long b = sc.nextLong();
long count = 0; // counter

[code]....

The program should read the numbers a and b and list how many numbers between a and b are divisible by either 2, 3 or 5. If the user types the number 5 and then 8.... it would look at all the numbers in between - 5,6,7,8 and check if any of them are divasable by either 2,3 or 5. And since the numbers 5,6,8 are it would return the number 3 to the user..Now the problem is that this program only works for small numbers, but when I try to input numbers such as 123456789012345678 and 876543210987654321... it doesn't run at all.

So there needs to be a quicker way on how the program checks the numbers divisibility instead of checking each one. Here is where I am lost. How to fix the program that it will read bigger numbers such as a=123456789012345678 b=87654321098765432..There must be a quicker way ...something that can modify the code so it finishes in the matter of seconds not hours. Something that will fasten the process of checking if the numbers are dividable.

1. Is there any tool/s available that can be used for this migration (Because manually it is very difficult for a application with almost 15,000 java files and 15 * 10^6 KLOC within a limited time frame).

2. Steps that should be followed in such cases.

3, If any tool is not available for such activity what are the salient points that are needed to be considered while migrating.

Writing A Large Symbol In The Console

Sep 3, 2014

What I'm tasked to do, is to make a simple Java class that forms a "V" based on whatever height the user would desire, made out of stars "*", and spaces " ".

For example, if a user desires a "V" with a height of 3, it would look print out something like;

* *
* *
*

Where a "V" with a height of 5 would look something like:

* *
* *
* *
* *
*

(That one didn't look too good, but you get the point, it's suppose to be 5 "high" and shaped like a "V"). The problem I have, is that I don't see what loops within loops within loops I would need to build something like this.

All the easy stuff like asking the user what height they want and such, I can handle, but I don't see how this thing is suppose to be coded, to print out a decent-looking and right-sized "V" in the console.

public static void main(String[] args) {
int height = 3;
for (int i = 0; i < height; i++) {
for (int j = 0; j < 2/(height+1)+1; j++) {
if(j == i) {

[Code] ....

Looked like something of a good start, and it drew me half (!) of the "V" in the size I wanted. Am I on to it here, or am I on the moon in terms of progress? I need the entire "V", not just a nice "".
