I am currently working on a project that can save text from a JTextArea and also open that same saved text. The problem I am having is that when I open the saved text file it is no longer formatted.
How the file looks before saving/closing:
public class HelloWorld{
System.out.println("Hello World!");
}
How the file looks after being saved/closed then opened:
public class HelloWorld{ System.out.println("Hello World!");}
When I save the file I'm actually saving the entire thing to a single string. When I do this the String eliminates all tabbed spacing and pushes all characters to one single line.
The only ideas I had for fixing this were to either somehow use Format in the String class or record every time user tabs and add to the String.

I am checking how to do following task.
01. pickup the selected text file and read the line by line and output the text in to visual text pane.
what i did:.
01. I wrote code that read the text file and output in to jave console/ also some of the interface.
the code read txt file:
Java Code:
String fileName = "C:/Users/lakshan/Desktop/lawyer.txt";
File textFile = new File(fileName);
Scanner in = new Scanner (textFile);
while(in.hasNextLine()){
[code]....
so it will read any text file dynamically and output to the text pane in interface. I think scanner code must be execute after the select the file from the browser and set the scanned result in to variable. then later out put the var as string in some jswing component?

Write a program that reads in a line of text and then outputs that line of text first in all uppercase letters and then in all lowercase letters.
INPUT and PROMPTS. The program prompts for a line of text as follows: "Enter the text: " and then reads in an entire line of text as a String .
OUTPUT . There are four lines of output . The first line is "The text in all upper case is: ". The second line is the line that was read in, displayed in all uppercase. The third line is "The text in all lower case is: " and the fourth line is the original line that was read in, displayed in all lowercase.
CLASS NAMES. Your program class should be called ShoutAndWhisper.
This is what I have so far:
import java.util.Scanner;
public class ShoutAndWhisper
{
public static void main(String[] args)
{
Scanner scannerObject = new Scanner (System.in);
System.out.println("Enter the text: ");
scannerObject.next();
System.out.println("The text in all upper case is: ");

I'm using JBoss 7.1.1.Final. I'm writing a Spring 3.1.1.RELEASE web application and have a massive amount (~5MB) of text output to send to the browser. I would like the browser to display the output as it is generated, but right now, the browser only displays everything after the servlet's doGet method completes. Here's my method …
@RequestMapping(value = "/mymethod", method = RequestMethod.GET)
public void refreshOrders(final HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException
{
execute(response, myWorker);
}
private void execute(final HttpServletResponse response,
[Code] ....
I set my buffer size to be 1K but that doesn't do anything.

I am working on a personal project and want to create a text editor to write my code. I am wondering how could I read the last input from the user and if say it was an open curly brace {, then like netbean's my editor will supply the closing curly brace. My java experience is limited but I have tried to read key board input and a few other options that did not work.

Basically , I'm trying to make a program that makes the Finch follow the object. I have made two classes :
NewOption52 and FollowClass.
Class NewOption52 contains a method which determines the properties of the GUI. Class FollowClass contains a main method which calls GUI method from class NewOption52 and it also contains several methods which dictates the Finch's behavior alongside with appending text to JTextArea feed.
When I connect the Finch and run the program , a GUI should appear and inside JTextArea should have text which says ""Please Place An Object in front of Finch And Then Tap Finch to Activate!". It didn't happen when I run the program.
Class NewOption52 :
import edu.cmu.ri.createlab.terk.robot.finch.Finch;
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
import javax.swing.*;

So currently I am trying to use a JTextarea to display text and I then prompt users to type in certain words. I have a few problems that I have encountered. Firstly when I use setText and then if I say setText again after that it erases the previous text that was set. Ideally I want to set text once per line in my whenever a certain task is fulfilled. For example if the text says enter y/n, I want the program to go to the next line once I say y or n. Another problem of course is when I setEditable to true I can edit the whole textArea. I just want to be able to edit the line which I am currently at. Is there anything that I can use that mimics the ACM console program, or even the console down below in most IDE's where everything appears to be done line by line?
Also here is an example of what I am trying to do, along with comments:
Java Code:
console.setText("Math is good!");
console.setText("What is 2+2?: "); //using getText gets the whole line, I want
//everything checked after the colon. That is where the input will be
if(line==4){
console.setText("That is correct");
}
else {
console.setText("That is incorrect");
}
//previous text lines are overriden with new ones. I don't want that, nor do I want to be able to edit the
//whole JtextArea mh_sh_highlight_all('java');
A JtextArea is just not getting the job done.

The intentions of this program is to prompt a user to enter a file name, and then reads the file. The program will prompt the user to enter a word that needs to be corrected. So lets say I have a text file containing "My name is OP and I Like goind to the Park!" I want to change "goind" to "going",
Now, my second method "isSimilar" executes a similar word with more than one same letter and same length, but I dont know how to execute that whole thing in my third method "correctThisLine" . How I can call that isSimilar method and read in that text file and change that word into that?

**Here is my question. I'm trying to use input and loop method to search for a file. The above code works but my problem is lets say I try to find 2 different text files**
1. billing-20140527[09].txt has
a)XGMS,2014-05-27 10:08:04,122,PLAYER_VERIFY,VERIFY to LBA,0x580000,0xC0000,253040.
b)XGMS,2034-05-27 30:08:04,122,PLAYER_VERIFY,VERIFY to LBA,0x580000,0xC0000,253040.
2. billing-20140527[10].txt has
a)XCGS,2014-05-27 10:08:04,122,PLAYER_VERIFY,VERIFY to LBA,0x580000,0xC0000,253040.
b)HELO
I try to find the number 1 in both text files, if lets say I input the text file name is billing, I can find the number 1 in both text file and output them:
a) XGMS,2014-05-27 10:08:04,122,PLAYER_VERIFY,VERIFY to LBA,0x580000,0xC0000,253040.
B)/> XCGS,2014-05-27 10:08:04,122,PLAYER_VERIFY,VERIFY to LBA,0x580000,0xC0000,253040.
However, if I specify the text file name: billing-20140527[09].txt and find the number 1 inside the text file, it will only output:
a) XGMS,2014-05-27 10:08:04,122,PLAYER_VERIFY,VERIFY to LBA,0x580000,0xC0000,253040.
How can I do so? Because I can output the number 1 from both text files even though I specify the name.

I have to write a program that reads the input from a text file!
Beware the Jabberwock, my son,
the jaws that bite, the claws that catch,
Beware the JubJub bird and shun
the frumious bandersnatch.
I should print the number of lines, the longest line, the number of tokens on each line and the length of the longest token on each line.
I was able to find the number of tokes in the line but im having having problems reading the longest word ,, my program gives me the number of letter of each line instead of only the number of letter of the longest word!!
this should be my output:
Line 1 has 5 tokens (longest = 11)
Line 2 has 8 tokens (longest = 6)
Line 3 has 6 tokens (longest = 6)
Line 4 has 3 tokens (longest = 13)
Longest line : the jaws that bite, the claws that catch,

Here's a link to it : [URL] ....
The basic gist is it's "A program that reads in a text file that uses a specific input format and uses it to produce a formatted report for output."
Specifically :"For this lab you will write a Java program that produces a simple formatted report. The program will prompt the user to enter a file name. This file must contain information in a specific format (detailed below). Each "block" of the file contains information for one player in a competition -- the name of the player followed by a number of different scores that that player achieved. The program should find each player's average score, median score and best and worst scores and display them in a line on the final summary report. The program should also determine which player has the highest average score and which player has the lowest average score."
I get the following errors when I try and compile it:
Enter an input file name: Project11.txt
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException... -1
at java.util.ArrayList.elementData(Unknown Source)
at java.util.ArrayList.get(Unknown Source)
at Project11.getMedian(Project11.java:68)
at Project11.main(Project11.java:27)
I get that the error(s) reside in lines 68 and 27, among problem other areas, but I'm not exactly sure how I can fix them.
Here's my code:
import java.io.*;
import java.util.*;
public class Project11 {
public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException{
Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.print("Enter an input file name: ");
String input = in.nextLine();
