Returning Multiple Variables From A Method

Nov 18, 2014

Now that I have figured out how to return a single variable from a method I am on to the next step, I need to return 2 or 3 variables from a method. I have searched the internet on how to do this to no avail (am I doing the wrong search? I do not know) but what I need to do is return a second (and eventually a third variable)

Here is what I have

private static String Engine() {
String engine = "";
int enginePrice = 0;
System.out.println("Choose a engine size:");
System.out.println("[4] cylinder");

[Code] .....

Which does not work.

EJB / EE :: Returning Multiple Values In QL

Mar 27, 2014

I want to return multiple values in my EJB query. The query goes something like this:

SELECT SUM(s.sales) SUM(s.cancels) FROM accounts.

To implement this if I write as below:

Query query = _em.createNamedQuery("Accounts.findAccountData");

Now if I do query.getSingleResult(); how do i retrieve both the values since the ejb finder returns either a single object or a collection?.

Reading Multiple Nested Variables From XML

Aug 19, 2014

I have an XML document that have multiple levels of nesting:

<virtue name="Innocence">
<rank ranklvl="1">
<stat type="Physical Mitigation" value="84" />
<stat type="Resistance Rating" value="89" />
<stat type="Tactical Mitigation" value="29" />
</rank>
<rank ranklvl="2">

I need to return all the different values within each child element... i.e.

Virtue: Innocence
Rank: 1
Physical Mitigation = 84
Physical Rating = 89
Tactical Mitigation = 29
Virtue: Innocence
Rank: 2
Physical Mitigation = 162
Physical Rating = 175
Tactical Mitigation = 54

I can read the XML okay but I get an error on displaying the information.

for (int temp = 0; temp < nList.getLength(); temp++) {
//Node nNode = nList.item(temp);
Node nNode = nList.item(temp);
//System.out.println("
Current Virtue :" + nNode.getNodeName());

Why Method Is Not Returning A Value

Apr 29, 2014

I'm new to Java and I have a problem with a method, I can't see the code of the method, I just have a jar, but it should return a boolean, something like this:

boolean band = false;
band = TestClass.testMethod("blabla");
// band = false

The problem is that the method seems that is returning nothing (band remain false), and if I initialize band to true:

boolean band = false;
band = TestClass.testMethod("blabla");
// band = true

band remain true, in other words, the value of band is never modified, the question is, how is this possible? because it should return the same value on both calls, true or false, no matter the initial value of the variable that is receiving the returning value of the method.

JavaFX 2.0 :: Variables With Multiple FXML Files

Mar 31, 2015

I have a multi scene JavaFX FXML application [URL] ....

I have added a TextField to Scene2.fxml and Scene3.fxml files each scene has its own Controller Class with a ScreensController class that loads a HashMap with Id name, Node screen that is defined in the ScreensFramework

class (Main class)
public void addScreen(String name, Node screen) {screens.put(name, screen);}

So each time you click a Button on a screen (scene) you fire an ActionEvent and move to another screen

myController.setScreen(ScreensFramework.screen2ID);

What I would like to do if it is possible is use the value in the TextField on Sceen2 and transfer it to the TextField on Scene3. I have discovered that unless both FXML files are loaded this is so far not possible. This is a desktop application. So how do you create a variable that is GLOBAL and has a life after one class is unloaded or one FXML file is unloaded?

At this point I do not want a database to accomplish this task.I have developed in Visual Basic 6 where I would just declare a global variable that could be used through out the application.

Why Is Method Returning Null

Sep 25, 2014

I am working on a project which manages an airport's airplanes and flights based on user input. The method printFlights() - lines 133-134 - is returning null and I can't figure out why. The method is supposed to print information about each flight. The logic is identical to the printPlanes() method which is working successfully.

JavaFX 2.0 :: Multiple Scene And Passing Variables With FXML Files

Mar 21, 2015

Lets say I have a desire to convert and entered value to Centigrade or Fahrenheit and that I have two Radio Buttons to designate the type of conversion with the Answer posted to a TextField on Scene Two from a button click event on Scene One ok Now I would like to convert the value in the TextField on Scene Two to Kelvin and reflect the value on Scene Three in a TextField by clicking a button on Scene Two

lets say  I have 4 FXML files sceneONE sceneTWO and scenMain and I created 4 controllers ControllerONE and MasterController

So far I can navigate to the different scens with just the MasterController code below...

BUT because I have two FXML files I can not capture the value in the first FXML file and pass it to the second scene

This project is my attempt to adapt the FXML style code from this web site

Switching to Different Screens in JavaFX and FXML | JavaFXTutorials

Which uses this code to switch scenes

    //get reference to the button's stage                stage=(Stage) btnS1.getScene().getWindow();
       //load up OTHER FXML document
       root = FXMLLoader.load(getClass().getResource("ATTwo.fxml"));

But will not permit variable transfer due to scope of variables which reside in two different FXML files

public class MasterController implements Initializable{@FXML public Button btnS1;
@FXML public Button btnS2;
@FXML public Label lblS1;
@FXML public Label lblS2;
@FXML public TextField txfS1;
@FXML public TextField txfS2;
@FXML public AnchorPane root;

Apache POI Method Returning Wrong Value

May 20, 2014

I'm using apache POI to input data from a excel database. I have a method that is supposed to count the number of rows containing data so I can use that number to initialize an object array. It's returning one more than the actual number of rows and I can't figure out why.

public int getDataRange() throws IOException{
int rowCount = 0;
Iterator<Row> rows = sheet.rowIterator();
while(rows.hasNext()){
HSSFRow row = (HSSFRow) rows.next();
rowCount++;

[Code] .....

I get an array index out of bounds exception at the highlighted line.

Method Is Not Returning Array - Null Error

May 18, 2015

I am trying to return an array and I keep getting a null error. The below class sets the material numbers into an array and should return that array if called :

public class Jobs {
private int[] materialsNumber;
//change to parts and create another class that gets the materials for the parts
 public int[] job1() {
materialsNumber[0] = 11960120;

[Code] ....

I later try to call the method. The program executes but stops after I println "test in loop"

public class PurchaseOrdersToParts {
 private Jobs job = new Jobs();
 int[] getPartsForPurchaseOrder(BigDecimal purchaseOrder) {
 System.out.println("inside getparts");
 BigDecimal testNum = new BigDecimal(123.0);

[Code] ....

This is the method that is calling the method in the GenerateOrdersToParts class

private PurchaseOrdersToParts purchaseOrdersToParts = new PurchaseOrdersToParts();
 @Inject
PoRepository poRepository;
public GenerateShopJobTickets() {

Passing Unknown Type To A Method And Returning It

Feb 20, 2014

So I want to know how in Java you can pass a unkown type into a method (type can be an int, double, or a user defined object) and return that unkown type.

example of what I want:
Java Code:
public (unknowntype)[] method2 ((unknowntype)[])
//Process Data
//unknowntype.process();
return (unknowntype);
} mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

I know in C you can use void pointers and in c++ we have templates but I do not know how java handles this. Also I want to know if it is possible to call a method in the unknowntype.

a. Create an application named ArithmeticMethods whose main() method holds two integer variables. Assign values to the variables. In turn, pass each value to methods named displayNumberPlus10(), displayNumberPlus100(), and displayNumberPlus1000(). Create each method to perform the task its name implies.

b. Modify the ArithmeticMethods class to accept the values of the two integers from a user at the keyboard.

Why Does String Split Method Producing Arrays With Whitespace Variables

Jan 17, 2015

I used the string split method in the following lines of code like this:

String[] numbers = out.split("[^d.]", 0);
String[] operations = out.split("[.d()]", 0);

When out is equal to the String "2x2.5", the array operations ends up looking like this when it is printed using the toString method:

[, , , x]

As you can see, before the array element x, there are three String variables which only contain whitespace. Why does this occur, and how can I prevent this from happening?

Calling Multiple Methods Into Main Method

Sep 30, 2014

This current one is to calculate a planes holding pattern. I have to write a method to prompt user to enter speed in knots, then it converts it to km/hr. Another method to calc. pattern width using the speed, another method to calc. pattern length, than a main method which would call and print out the speed in knots, speed in km, pattern width and length.My current problem is on the second method. It works in that I can enter the values and it gives me the correct answers, however it's asking me to enter the speed twice, instead of just once. Anything I try just results in errors and won't compile.

import java.util.Scanner ;
//main method
public class TitleRemoved {
public static void main(String[] args) {
double airSpeedKm = airSpeedOts () ;
System.out.println("That speed is " + airSpeedKm + " km/hr.") ;

[code].....

I want my code to not only work, but be organized and easily readable as well, so I want to avoid bad habits.
