Returning Total From Loop
Jan 7, 2014
I have a for each loop that outputs the Mechanics salary for the first team in the arraylist, how can I add these figures together instead of having separate value for each?The code in my testing class to get the salary for mechanics:
Java Code: for (Mechanic str1: formula1.get(0)){
System.out.println(str1.getSalary());
} mh_sh_highlight_all('java');
How can I also get the salary for the driver 1 + 2 in the same team and add their salary to this? I have attaached an image showing the classes/fields created

Below is a method that is suppose to insert a value inside a stack based on the index. I thought it would be easier to copy the value, if any, that was in the index into the variable holder and replace it with the input value. After in which it would copy the holder value and place it at the top of the stack. (topOfStack variable is what the holder is copying too.)
public void pushExact (int index, String input) {
String holder = "";
if (maxSize == 0) {
theStack[topOfStack] = input;
topOfStack++;
} else if (topOfStack + 1 < maxSize) {
for (int n= maxSize - 1;n >= 0;n--) {

So basically, I've been trying to create a for loop that asks the user for a number between 1 and 30, then calculates the total of the series of numbers. For example, if 15 is entered, the calculation should be 1/15+2/14+3/13+...15/1 which would equal approximately 38.1. The problem I'm having is that the code doesn't loop whenever I type a number for some reason, which results in a very incorrect calculation. Here is my code so far:
import java.util.Scanner;
public class HmwLoop {
public static void main(String[] args) {
double sum = 0;
for (double num1 = 1, num2 = 30; num1 <= 30 && num2 >= 1; num1++, num2--)
[Code] .....

So I've attempted a for loop for this type of problem:If you receive $0.01 on the first day of your allowance, and the daily rate doubles each day after, calculate the total earnings for 30 days.
Output should be like:
Day ----- Daily allowance - Total allowance
1 -------- 0.01 -------------- 0.01
2 -------- 0.02 -------------- 0.03
3 -------- 0.04 -------------- 0.07
My code so far:
public class Allowance
{
public static void main (String[] args)
{
int day = 0;
double daily = 0.0;
double total = 0.1;
System.out.println("Day Daily Allowance Total Allowance");
for(day = 0; day <= 30; )
[code].....

I'm just not noticing why it won't display the answer. I'm trying to solve this book problem......
"Write a for loop that calculates the total of the follower series of numbers:
1/30 + 2/29 + 3/28......+30/1"
Here is what I have..
public static void main(String[] args) {
double total = 0;
for (double a = 1, b = 30; b < 1; a++, b--) {
total += (a / b);
}
System.out.println(total);
}
}
When launched, the output is 0.0. I tried changing the variables a and b to doubles but didn't change anything...

I cannot get the right output for my program. I need to get the total number of pennies in dollar amount for the output of Total Pay. This is my program. The directions are:
Write a program that calculates the amount a person would earn over a period of time if his or her salary is one penny the first day, two pennies the second day, and continues to double each day. The program should then show the total pay at the end of the period. The output should be displayed in a dollar amount, not the number of pennies. Do not accept a number less than 1 for the number of days worked.
import java.util.Scanner;
import java.text.DecimalFormat;
public class PenniesForPay {
public static void main(String[] args) {
int numDays;
[Code] ....
totalSalary should be total number of pennies / 100....However its not picking up only day 30 of pennies which is 536,870,912 pennies and then dividing it?

I'm struggling with inheritance in my assignment. The assignment states that I should use the calculatePrice() to calculate the total price and use another method to display the total. The I must overload the calculatePrice() and add a fee in the SpeedOrder() class.
My main class
package useorder;
import javax.swing.*;
public class UseOrder {
/**
* @param args the command line arguments
*/
public static void main(String[] args) {
Order.display();
[Code] .....
The problem is mainly displaying the TotalPrice field and. I can't display TotalPrice if it's not static but if it's static I can't inherit it to the SpeedOrder class to assign the total in the overloaded calculateprice method. How can I display the total in my order class and use it in my SpeedOrder class?

I am trying to print a loop inside an array of a greater size than the loop itself. Like for example I have an array of size 7 but it has only 3 elements.
int[] array=new int[7]
array[0]=2;
array[1]=3;
array[2]=4;
now what I want to do is print these three numbers in a loop so that my array[3]=2;array[4]=3;array[5]=4 ...... till the last one. Also the array could be any size and not just 7.

Here's the code: it's while loop inside a for loop to determine the proper length of a variable:
for (int i = 0; i < num; i++) {
horse[i]=new thoroughbred();
boolean propernamelength = false;
while (propernamelength==false){
String name = entry.getUserInput("Enter the name of horse "
[code]....
I was just wondering what was going on here -- I've initialized the variable, so why do I get this message? (actually the carat was under the variable name inside the parentheses.

I have everything else working. My problem is that when i type "quit" to close the outer loop. It still runs the inner loop. The National Bank manager wants you to code a program that reads each clients charges to their Credit Card account and outputs the average charge per client and the overall average for the total number of clients in the Bank.
Hint: The OUTER LOOP in your program should allow the user the name of the client and end the program when the name entered is QUIT.In addition to the outer loop, you need AN INNER LOOP that will allow the user to input the clients charge to his/her account by entering one charge at a time and end inputting the charges whenever she/he enters -1 for a value. This INNER LOOP will performed the Add for all the charges entered for a client and count the number of charges entered.
After INNER LOOP ends, the program calculates an average for this student. The average is calculated by dividing the Total into the number of charges entered. The program prints the average charge for that client, adds the Total to a GrandTotal, assigns zero to the Total and counter variables before it loops back to get the grade for another client.Use DecimalFormat or NumberFormat to format the numeric output to dollar amounts.
The output of the program should something like this:
John Smith average $850.00
Maria Gonzalez average $90.67
Terry Lucas average $959.00
Mickey Mouse course average $6,050.89
National Bank client average $1,987.67
Code:
public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);
String name = "";
int charge = 0;
int count = -1;
int total = 1;
int grandtotal = 0;
int average = 0;
[code]....

I'm new to Java and I have a problem with a method, I can't see the code of the method, I just have a jar, but it should return a boolean, something like this:
boolean band = false;
band = TestClass.testMethod("blabla");
// band = false
The problem is that the method seems that is returning nothing (band remain false), and if I initialize band to true:
boolean band = false;
band = TestClass.testMethod("blabla");
// band = true
band remain true, in other words, the value of band is never modified, the question is, how is this possible? because it should return the same value on both calls, true or false, no matter the initial value of the variable that is receiving the returning value of the method.

I have created a class and a matrix of doubles (or at least, I think I have, that's partly what I want to verify).I need to return the values of the array,Here is my class:
public class example{
double[][] Position=new double[2][11];
double calculate(){
for (int time=0;time<=10;time=time+1){
Position[1][time]=time;
Position[2][time]=time+1;
double A=Position[2][time];
return A;
}
}
}
I am getting the error: "This method must return a result of type double", though to me it looks like I am returning double (A).

public String b;
public String c;
public double es;
public double cs;
public String getCategory() {
if (es < 1.3)
[Code] ....
Figured it out. Was missing parenthesis on audiCar.getCategory();

I'm having an issue returning data from a constructor. This is an assignment, and the specifications were that two classes are to be used, one for the variables and assigning methods, and one for the main method and the printing. This app compiles, but returns "0" for the isbn number, and I'm sure it's because I'm not doing something right with my constructors. My code is below
public class Book {
/* Declare Variables */
public static int isbn;
/* Constructor */
public Book (int isbn) {
isbn = 454545;
[code]....
There are other variables to add, but if I can get one working, I can get the rest working.

The code is below. The program runs a series of calculations based on data input by the user. My problem is that for the most important thing I'm looking for, total kg CO2 emissions, I continually get an answer of 0.0. What I need is a sum of the individual total emissions as calculated in each method, i.e. the values which are printed with the following: System.out.println(trans); System.out.println(elec); and System.out.println(food);
The total should be something like 25040 or whatever, depending on the value of the inputs provided by the user, but I'm constantly getting a total of 0.0., which is obviously false. Could have something to do with the way I've initialized my variables, or something to do with the limitations of returning values from methods.
import java.util.Scanner;
public class CarbonCalc {
public static void main(String[] args) {
double trans = 0;
double elec = 0;
double food = 0;
giveIntro();
determineTransportationEmission(null);
[code]....

I want to return multiple values in my EJB query. The query goes something like this:
SELECT SUM(s.sales) SUM(s.cancels) FROM accounts.
To implement this if I write as below:
Query query = _em.createNamedQuery("Accounts.findAccountData");
Now if I do query.getSingleResult(); how do i retrieve both the values since the ejb finder returns either a single object or a collection?.

For some reason my code returns the memory address of the array when its a print statement with a string, but it works fine when its in a separate print statement all by itself. Why? Do I need to create a toString method that converts a char array to a String to something? The reason why I ask that is becuase on Eclipse line 10 has a warning stating "Must explicitly convert char[] to a String".
public class Ex {
private String word;
public Ex(String word) {
this.word = word;
}
public char[] Display(){
char[] wordChars = this.word.toCharArray();
return wordChars;
[Code] .....
Result:
Hello world
The word is: [C@1db9742
I also tried this, knowing that it's a long shot, but that didnt do anything...
public String toString(){
Ex ex = new Ex(this.word);
char[] word = ex.Display();
String updated = word.toString();//counter intuitive?
return updated;
}

Write a method that accepts an array of Strings and a character c. The method must return the count of all cs in the strings of the array.
Here's what I have written:
[
public int countC(String[] strings, char c) {
int count = 0;
for(int i = 0; i < strings.length; i++) {
for(int j = 0; j < strings[i].length(); j++) {
if(strings[i].charAt(j) == c) {
count++;
}
}
}
return count;

import java.io.IOException;
public class AppReadFileFileReader {

I can't see any difference in the code though, and the files being found in order for the null to appear... :?
the text file is within the Java project, and just has three lines :
line one
line two
line three
That's all it say..... But all my program returns is the work 'null'
