View RepliesI have to store data I've pulled from the web i wanted to do this by storing it in a database but after looking at some tutorials i'm not sure if its possible as the databases don't seem to run with the application but instead run as an independent entity.if its possible to have a database in the java application so it runs when the application runs.
View Replies View RelatedI downloaded this code from Head First Java. But when I tried running it on Eclipse, it gives this error message.

I am operating java from the command line (using Terminal on Mac OSX 10.9.5).The current directory within Terminal is called "orange" and the following sourcecode file is in the orange directory :
Test1.java
package orange;
public class Test1 {
public static void main(String[] args) {
System.out.println("Test1 works");
}
}
This complies to Test1.class (visible in the orange directory) but when I try to run it in Terminal (simply using "java Test1" from within the orange directory). I get the following error message (which I don't get if I simply comment out the line //package orange;)

I have create as short example which contains two classes Cat and Dog followed by a switch statement in the main method.
Class Cat
public class Cat {
private String name;
//Setter
public void setName(String pName)
{name = pName;}
//Getter
public String getName()
{return name;}
// Constructor
public Cat(String catName)
{name = catName;}
[code]....
My Issue is that after creating the objects within the switch statement, is there a way to return the objects back to the main method once created within the switch ?
I've already seen large code blocks inside JSP's, in a way it is very hard to maintain the web application. Is there a way to avoid that?

Tried creating a simple sample but all works as expected.
The following code prevents the cursor from moving when inside a cell of a JTable.
public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e) {
if ( (e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_KP_LEFT) || (e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_KP_RIGHT)
|| (e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_RIGHT) || (e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_LEFT) )
{
//Do nothing
e.consume();
}
}
});
When editing a cell, the existing code would use the right/left cursor keys to move from cell to cell as opposed to from character to character when editing a cell. I planned to override the functionality by tossing in the above code as a test to see if it stops the functionality before I override it.
After placing in the above code, the above functionality no longer occurs, but now the cursor moves within the cell as I wanted which is to move from character to character instead of cell to cell. Its great it works, but it really shouldn't. Essentially the default behavior has been restored when it should have really disabled the left/right keys.
I assume there is some underlying class someplace that is doing something to affect the behavior. Since a sample can't be provided I am wondering in what scenarios would the e.consume() restore default functionality?

I'm trying to code a little text RPG. I've made a little "personality test", with 4 questions (answers a b c), where every letter stands for a type of personality. The analysis of the result is simple counting of the answers, if you have 3 answers a (4 questions), then a has won. If 2 on a, and 2 on b, a simple Random method shows weather result a or b.
Now... the test should give you a "partner" (imagine the pokemon game with 3 different starter pokemon). I have now 3 string variables, like 3 different partners. They are all declared somewhere outside, but i only need one later.
Like...the test is completed, you have your partner and how can i make now that the program is just showing me my partner? Like...when i type " System.out.println(partner); " (outside of the test loop! ) that i only get the one i got through the test?
I was trying to declare in every loop the partner String with every result. But outside the loop java isn't recognising that String, bcs...ofc...it was declared for the loop. So i had in every if or else if clause a " String partner = anwsA;" and answB and answC, thats why i cant declare them outside.
Short: i need a partner String variable that could have 3 possible results... i jut need one

"Object contains data and code to manipulate that data."
Is the statement right ?? as far as i know object only contains copy of instance variables.
Working with some code that displays the random movement of an object such as Move 1: (0,1) Move 2: (10,99)?
I need these methods in the class
void initialize( int xPos, int yPos)
void moveLeft()
void moveRight()
void moveUp()
void moveDown()
int getXPosition()
int getYPosition()
How to create object for "class B" and call the "function_B" from other different class D where class D has no connection with class A? Here is my program.
public class A(){
void print(){}
}
class B{
void function_B(){}
}
class C{
void function_C(){}
}
Here, A, B, C are in the same package. But class D is in different package.

I wanted to ask is there any way that Java code can get at the address of some object or other datum? I've found this useful a few time with certain high performance C# libraries that I've developed.
Also does Java have the equivalent of C#'s "fixed" buffers? which are inline contiguous arrays of primitives (like Chars or Ints etc).
I need to use print not println to declare stuff and I need to have string literals I think that's /n. Now when I compile it just shows row1, row2 ect. Why does it work like that?
public class art {
public static void main(String[] args) {
//local variables
String row1= "***********************";
String row2= "** *** *** **";
String row3= "** ***** ***** **";

how the code is getting all the permutations of a string with recursion. The following code works correctly but I am having trouble grasping what it is doing.
public class Main {
private static void permutation(String prefix, String str){
int n = str.length();
if (n == 0)
System.out.println(prefix);
else {
for (int i = 0; i < n; i++)
permutation(prefix + str.charAt(i),
str.substring(0, i) + str.substring(i+1));
}
}
public static void main(String[] args) {
permutation("", "ABCD");
}
}
I see that each character is being appended to prefix through each iteration. So I know it adds "A" then "B" etc etc. I can follow it up until the "D" is appended to the prefix string. After that I don't understand how the D moves back to the str string and then the C moves back to str followed by the D moving back to the prefix string. I have stepped through the code many times in my debugger but still don't see how it moves back to str and knows to send D to prefix and not to send C. I feel I don't understand how recursion behaves therefore I can't follow.
I am trying to get a price of a certain show in a theatre but the problem is that i don't know how to use the method's String parameter:
/**
* Gives the price of the show with a given place in the room
*
* @param place the place in the room (VIP, average seating, in the back)
* @return price
*/
public double getPlaceprice(String place) {
if (place !=null) {
double p = place.getPrice();
// price= Double.parseDouble("place.getPrice()");
return p;
}
return 0;
}
Now I have a class called Place which has an attribute double price and a getter for price
public double getPrice() {
return price;
So I somehow have to alter the String parameter Place to the object(class) Place, on which i can call the method getPrice()
At least, that's what i think i have to do. Where i go wrong?
I am trying to figure out how to convert a string of ASCII code into char.I know that you can use (char) to convert it, but the issue is you cannot really just it for Strings.
