Servlets :: Feature Detection - Determine Browser Type

Apr 22, 2014

I need to be able to detect IE 9, IE 10, IE 11 and the latest from Firefox and Chrome. The old method using the user-agent string is unreliable and not recommended. There is a different approach called, "Feature Detection". But I need to know what features to test to determine the browser. I can write it myself, or if there is a handy dandy API using feature detection already written that would be OK too.

JDBC :: How To Determine DATE Data Type Of Parameter If It Is Not Specified

Feb 2, 2015

Oracle JDBC driver determine the DATE data type of parameter correctly without any typecasting.

Example:
ps = conn.prepareStatement("SELECT ? FROM DUAL");
ps.setObject(1, Date.valueOf("2014-01-11")) ;

I have tried the same example with other database driver but it gives error.

PostgreSQL JDBC driver:
org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: ERROR: could not determine data type of parameter $1

ps = conn.prepareStatement("SELECT ?");
ps.setObject(4, Date.valueOf("2005-01-01"));

so I want to know how Oracle JDBC driver determine the DATE data type of parameter.

Servlets :: Determine Which HttpSession Attribute Value Changed?

Feb 15, 2015

I'm looking to figure out if it's possible to do the following:

HttpSession session = request.getSession();
session.setAttribute('name', 'Jane_Doe');
// more code here
session.setAttribute('name', 'John_Doe');

Obviously, you can use the HttpSessionAttributeListener to determine which attribute has changed. However, it doesn't return the new value but rather the old one.

You can use the HttpSessionEvent listener to determine when a session object has been changed.

Is there a way you can determine when a session object changes (and it does NOT occur when the setAttribute method is called...) and determine the updated key:value pair?

Servlets :: How To Prevent Particular HTTP Header Attribute From Browser Cache

Feb 26, 2014

I am generating java script tag and javascript code in servlet and displaying it in each jsp page. i include this in every jsp in my application. I am preparing the following javascript content and diplayin each jsp

<script type="text/javascript"> BOOM.addVar (clientId = SOME universal unique ID ) </script>

the clientid will be uniqueid it gets generated every time.

Here my question is, is there any possibility the clientId will be store in browser cache or third party cache server. if yes how to prevent clientId from cache.

I don't want to prevent the whole jsp file from cache. i just want to prevent only that particular field. so that i can use advantages cache and also prevent particular header field to be cached.

Also can we prevent particular http header attribute from cache.

Browser Automation / Embedding Into GUI / Attaching To Existing Browser Window

Aug 7, 2014

What best API or whatever you call for browser automation? I mean clicking links, filling forms, gathering sources and other info. I already tried selenium WebDriver. It have all needed functions but there is no feature like attaching code into already opened browser so even doing google search it opens new browser window (opening takes ~5-10secs). Also I believe that there is no way that I could embed that browser into GUI.

Also tried WebSpecs and old Watij but also didnt found any way to attach or embed browser into my GUI.

So what I need is that I could create GUI with embeded browser and bunch of buttons. I click buttons then embeded browser clicks links, gets info etc.

How To Implement UNDO Feature

Mar 10, 2014

I need to design 'notepad' application as my assignment.

Requirement: Only text is allowed, all the characters are having same size and font. It should have feature like new, open, save , save as , exit , UNDO , find , replace and font.

For this i use JTextArea and menu bar .

I am able to develop features like new, open, save , save as , exit. Need to implement now UNDO , find , replace and font but struck at 'UNDO'.

UNDO feature should be enable only when user writing in the writing area but not when it opens any file. What i thought is to have a flag on whenever user save whatever he wrote and if he use select UNDO then it check for the flag. If flag is ON then it will not do UNDO and if flag is not set then it cleared everything from the Text Area.

Erasure Feature From Generics - Duplicated Bound Error

Jun 14, 2014

The erasures of all constituent types of a bound must be pairwise different, or a compile-time error occurs.

Well I know what type erasure is, and I think I kind got what this statement means. My understanding from it is that if your type parameter has more than one bound and those bounds occurs to be the same type after erasure that is a compile-time error. Is that it?

The only thing I could found related is something like this:

class A<T extends List<Integer> & List<Integer>>{
}

Which as you might know gives the Duplicated bound error.

Which Iterator To Be Use To Create Instances From Feature Value Pairs (Mallet API)

Mar 12, 2015

I am tring to run LDA to generate some topics from txt files as the following one:

Document1 label1 forest=3.4 tree=5 wood=2.85 hammer=1 colour=1 leaf=1.5
Document2 label2 forest=10 tree=5 wood=2.75 hammer=1 colour=4 leaf=1
Document3 label3 forest=19 tree=0.90 wood=2 hammer=2 colour=9 leaf=4.3
Document4 label4 forest=4 tree=5 wood=10 hammer=1 colour=6 leaf=3

Each numeric value in the file is an indication of the number of occurrences of each feature (e.g., forest, tree) multiplied by a given penalty. To generate instances from such a file, I use the following Java code:

String lineRegex = "^(S*)[s,]*(S*)[s,]*(.*)$";
String dataRegex = "[p{L}([0-9]*.[0-9]+|[0-9]+)_=]+";
InstanceList generateInstances(String dataPath) throws UnsupportedEncodingException, FileNotFoundException {
ArrayList<Pipe> pipeList = new ArrayList<Pipe>();
pipeList.add(new Target2Label());

[Code] .....

I then add the so-generated instances to my model using the instruction model.addInstances(generatedInstances). The resulting output is described below.

It contains errors caused by the instruction model.addInstances(generatedInstances). Debugging my code showed me that the alphabet associated to the model is null. Am I using the wrong iterator?

name: document1
target: label1
input: TokenSequence [forest=3.4 feature(forest)=3.4 span[0..10], tree=5 feature(tree)=5.0 span[11..17], wood=2.85 feature(wood)=2.85 span[18..27], hammer=1 feature(hammer)=1.0 span[28..36], colour=1 feature(colour)=1.0 span[37..45], leaf=1.5 feature(leaf)=1.5 span[46..54]]

Directed Graph Cycle Detection

Jan 4, 2015

I have some problem checking if a directed graph has a cycle or not. So I have a given rooted directed graph, and find if there at least one existing cycle.

For example, I have to input the Root Node, followed by a number of nodes, the nodes in the graph, number of edges, and the adjacency list representing the edges. Each entry in the adjacency list contains a pair of nodes. The ordering of the nodes in the pair represents the direction of the edge. An entry A, B means that there is an edge from A to B. Nodes in each pair is separated by a space. One input per line.

And the output should display whether the directed graph has a cycle or not.

Sample input:

A //Root Node
6 //Number of Nodes
A //Nodes in Graph
B
C
D
E
F
6 //Number of edges
A B //Adjacency list representing the edges
B C
C D
C F
F E
E B

Output:
Cycle!

Graph Representation:

Based on the illustration above, the graph has one cycle. The cycle exists in nodes B, C, F and E.

Faulty Mouse Point Detection?

May 26, 2014

So I'm making buttons for a game I'm making. The graphics work, at least to the extent that I don't have to fix them yet. However, click detection is a bit iffy. For example pressing where the black line is in the first picture below, triggers a response. Now obviously that point is not on the button. I have tested the buttons bounding box by drawing a rectangle around it, using it's getBounds() method (which is also used for click detection) and it draws a perfect rectangle around it. So then I tested the mouse click points and it turns out that even though the button is placed at y = 100, at the black line, the mouse point is also equal to 100... Now, why that is happening, especially because, if I place the button in the top left corner, the mouse detection correctly detects the top pixels and there is no offset...

How To Create Withdraw / Deposit Feature So It Can't Exceed Maximum Limit

Nov 25, 2014

So lets say I got maximum of 20 deposit, I want to create a method/function (idk what proper name for it is) so that you cannot deposit more than 20 nor withdraw more than you have in your account, so this function checks your account, if your total is for example 18 and you're trying to deposit 10, it rejects it and doesn't add to your total and pops up with a message, vice versa for withdraw.

This is what I have so far

Not I already have the maximum limit + total feature created just not displayed here

public void depositMoney (int dMoney) {
if(DMoney > 0 ) {
totalMoney = totalMoney + dMoney;
}
else {
System.out.println("Please insert money more than 0");

Pong Game - Y Axis Collision Detection

Jan 28, 2014

I have made a "Pong" game and how to check if the ball has hit the top or the bottom of a paddle, however I do know how to check if it has hit the left or right side:

Java Code:

if((BALL.getX() >= LEFT_BAT.getX() && BALL.getX() <= LEFT_BAT.getX() + LEFT_BAT.getWidth()
&& BALL.getY() >= LEFT_BAT.getY() && BALL.getY() <= LEFT_BAT.getY() + LEFT_BAT.getHeight())
&& (BALL.getX() >= RIGHT_BAT.getX() && BALL.getX() <= RIGHT_BAT.getX() + RIGHT_BAT.getWidth()
&& BALL.getY() >= RIGHT_BAT.getY() && BALL.getY() <= RIGHT_BAT.getY() + RIGHT_BAT.getHeight())){
BALL.increaseDX();
BALL.setDX(-BALL.getDX());
} mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

It seems as though I would use the same code for checking the top or bottom.

Video Game - Collision Detection Class?

Apr 30, 2014

I use eclipse as my IDE. I have decided to make my own video game and somebody had sent me a class that could be used for collision detection. The problem with the collision detection class was that it made a box around an object and if something else had touched the object, the collision detection would work. My problem with this class is what happens when i want to use circles? I cant have a box drawn around it. Then it wouldn't work as i would want. Is there a pixel perfect collision detection class out there I can use? It'll be useful in my journey to become successful in computer science! By the way this is in the java language.
