Recently we got an issue about file download. We are using below code to fetch the data from backend(DB2) and export to excel.
Before Jan 15 it use to take 2 minutes to download the file (2 MB size). But now its taking half an hour to download.
response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
response.setHeader("content-disposition","attachment; filename=Attendance_Report.xls");
We have restarted server, system but still problem exists. We found that there is no code level or data base level or network level issues.
Now we have to see server level issue. What are the factors which effects the file downloading at server level.
We are using websphere 6.1 ,java1.4

I have a very simple HTML form with a textField for a name, and add button to add the name to a MySQL database, and a sort button to sort the names in the database and display them. I almost have it working, however when I hit the "sort" button; I get the message that appears after a user clicks the add button along with the sorted list of names. It looks like this:
Please go back and add a name or sort.
Bill Jones
David G
Debbie Downer
Jane Doe
Joe Smith
John Doe
Mike Jones
Paul Smith
Susan Jones
What I have to change on my code to make just the list show up by itself when the user clicks sort?
My servlet code:
import java.io.IOException;
import java.io.PrintWriter;
import javax.servlet.ServletException;
import javax.servlet.annotation.WebServlet;
import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest;
import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse;
import java.sql.*;

Is it possible to get the list/ values in html/jsp from servlet?
I have a table inside an html/jsp page and when the user clicks a button I need to refresh the whole page with some additional text message.
Currently what I am doing is that I am using a java bean for the jsp page that contains a list of values inside the table then store it in session but I think there is a better way without storing it in session.
I tried using request.getParameter() but it only returns string.

In one jsp page, I submit a form with a message body with following html code (which is store in "MsgBody" in my request)
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<meta content="text/html; charset=utf-8" http-equiv="Content-Type" />
[code]....
But when I submit my form, I received in my servlet a parameter "MsgBody" without several tag like <html>/<body> ... do you know this behavior, by default tag are delete ?
public String execute(Map params, HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws Exception {
String MsgBody = request.getParameter("MsgBody");.
I use Tomcat 7, maybe a tomcat behavior can influence for this tag loose in request param ?

int userSelection = fileChooser.showSaveDialog(parentFrame);
if (userSelection == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION) {

But as you can see, it downloads only to "C:android empcoloricon.png". I want to download it to path where I chose in FileChooser with the name and extension I choose. In short, how can I use dynamic file path names in where ever I want in my applications?

We have a website used for downloading large files as large as 6gb and sometimes larger. We have all files in FTP server. The websit is JSP/Servlet /Tomcat combination. Below is code sample. I need a solution to increase the download speed. I understand it is bound to network bandwidth but are the steps that we need to take while we have such large files.I read about multipart downloads,gunzip streaming.

Calendar cal=Calendar.getInstance();
startTime=cal.getTime();

I have a requirement to download the data from DB to CSV/Excel. What I did is retrieving all the records from DB and store in the List and pass that list to the jsp page. In JSP page, I am using the below setting to download it to CSV/EXCEL.
response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
String fileName = "Report"+System.currentTimeMillis()+".xls";
response.setHeader("Content-disposition","attachment;filename="+fileName);
It was working fine. But I have an issues in it. Excel is capable of storing it only 65,536 rows. Even all the data getting downloaded to CSV/excel (> 65,536), while saving I am getting error from excel saying that it can't save more than 65,536 rows and the below data won't be saved.
This workbook contains data in cells outside of the row and column limit of the selected file format.
Data beyond 256 (IV) columns by 65,536 rows will not be saved.
Formula references to data in this region will return a #REF! error.
I am not opt for POI apache third party at this point of time. Is it possible to download it in other sheets if it exceeds the max limit.
Example: Having data of around 100,000.
Download 65,536 - Sheet 1
Remaining in Sheet 2,3.. of the same excel.

My problem is my teacher told me that i have to add a radiobutton on html. According to radiobutton servlet has to choose write parameters on DB or File. And he wants me to add a method to do this work.
1)Get Parameters
2)Choose to write DB or File according to parameters
3)if it is DB create connection and do writing process
4)if it is file create file and do writing process.
Second piece of code should be removed. İnstead of this i have to use a single method. But i don't know how to do this(not writing code). Should i use another servlet or a class...
package GB;
import java.io.File;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.io.PrintWriter;

I have table data I'm trying to read . However one column is populated with the word "null". I guess java does not like dealing with the word null and throws errors.
When I try a block like : if ( rsrow.getString(insCol) = "null") {
I get and error .
If I try :
cmp = rsrow.getString(insCol);If I try:If I try:
if (cmp = "null") {
I get an error
If I try to use a replace function like:
System.out.println(cmp.replace("null", "0"));
Just to see if replace works I get and error.
What is the BEST way to replace this string value with something like "0" when I come across it with out jave throwing an error? I want it such that every time I come across the word "null" I can repalce it with "0".
Something like:
if (rsrow.getString(insCol) = "null") {rowofdata = rowofdata + "'0',"; } else {rowofdata = rowofdata + "'" + rsrow.getString(insCol) + "',";}

I am having an issue with retrieving "grouped" data from HTML form to servlet. I will describe the scenario below.
In companies, they record the salary of the employees once a month.When they record it, they do not do it by visiting each an every employees personal "profile" (or whatever according to the system). Instead what they do is apply the salaries of all of them in one page.
To do the above thing they prefer excel like tabular sheets. Now, I have a html form, where the form content is a table. One row is dedicated to a one employee.
Below is my form.
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
<title>JSP Page</title>
[Code] .....
As you can see, I have wrapped every row with a `<tbody>`. The `value` attribute of the `<tbody>` will contain the employee id. Once the form is submitted, the below servlet will capture it.
import java.io.IOException;
import java.io.PrintWriter;
import javax.servlet.ServletException;
import javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet;
import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest;
import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse;
[Code] .....
What I was trying is get the `value` attribute of `<tbody>` (so I can identify the id of the employee) and get the data inside that `<tbody>`. However this didn't work, because I ended up with `NullpointerException` because it failed to read the `<tbody>` value.
So, how can I pass the data from table to servlet where it can clearly understand that one row is representing data belong to a one employee? If this is not the way to do it, I am also open for other methods.

out.write("<html><body onload="alert('alert has been fired');document.forms[0].submit()">

Is there any reserved key words of chrome in the above action url? If I execute this code in the html format, it is working in chrome. but if it is from servlet, alert() is not running.

I currently have the following code that I use to download a file from a website:
URL website = new URL(imgurl);
ReadableByteChannel rbc = Channels.newChannel(website.openStream());
FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(dir+""+imageNumber + "." + extension);
fos.getChannel().transferFrom(rbc, 0, Long.MAX_VALUE);
fos.close();
Usually, the code works very well. But sometimes, the download gets stalled indefinitely. Is there a way to set a time out period for the downloading of this file?
