Servlets :: Call Constructor / Method Upon Redirecting To Another Page?
Aug 13, 2014
I have login.jsp and home.jsp.
Each have its own servlets.
When I click Login button from login.jsp, it will navigate to home.jsp.
But before displaying home.jsp from he user, I want to call homeServlet.java's constructor/method.
This is because I want to populate a dropdown from home.jsp from a database.
I'm using MVC2 Servlet/JSP/Bean framework and AMAP, I do not want to execute javascripts/jquery for populating dropdowns.

I want to call the HEAD method on a servlet.If in my HTML code, I specify -
<form name="testHead" action="/servlet/servletName" method="HEAD">
And the servlet handles the HEAD method in the sense that the doGet() method returns if the method type is HEAD.When I run it, the servlet returns the code returned by the entire doGet() method. This shows that the doGet() method does not realize that it is a HEAD method and it should return back without processing further.The application server is Tomcat 4.0.

public Unit(String code, String name)
{
enrolStudent(student);
this.unitCode = code;
this.unitName = name;
}
public void enrolStudent(Student newStudent){
students = new ArrayList<Student>();
newStudent = new Student(24662496, "Kingsley", " Iwunze");
students.add(newStudent);
}
how can I call this enrolStudent() method on this Unit constructor in another class when I create a new Unit. all I need is to enroll students in units when units are created. below is my create unit method.
public void createUnits( ){
units = new ArrayList<Unit>();
units.add(new Unit("FIT2034", "Java Programming 2"));
units.add(new Unit("FIT2024", "Software Engineering"));
units.add(new Unit("MAT1830","Discrete Maths"));
unit.enrolStudent(new Student(25486321, "Julia", "Garcia"));
unit.enrolStudent(new Student(44589736, "James", "Olivia"));
unit.enrolStudent(new Student(47852103, "Lucky", "Thyriod"));
}

I am trying to call a constructor from PrepaidCard class in my main method, but I am not sure how to proceed.
As seen below, both the PrepaidCard constructor and the setCardID method have the ability to set the card ID.
public class PrepaidCard
{
public PrepaidCard(String id, int token) {
cardID = id;
tokenBalance = token;
}
public void setCardID(String id, int token) {
cardID = id;
tokenBalance = token;
}
}
Now in this block of code, I can successfully pass the id and token value by calling the setCardID method from the PrepaidCard class. Now I would like to call the PrepaidCard constructor from the PrepaidCard class to pass the id and token value, instead of using the setCardID method.
public class PrepaidCardTest
{
public static void main(String[] args) {
PrepaidCard card2 = new PrepaidCard(id, token);
System.out.print("Enter Card2 cardID: ");
id = input.nextLine();
card2.setCardID(id, token);
}
}
How to call the PrepaidCard constructor from the PrepaidCard class, to successfully pass the id and token value, in my main method?Specifically how to modify or replace this line of code so that it can correctly call the PrepaidCard constructor?
card2.setCardID(id, token);

Its written that every constructor calls its super class constructor. And we know, constructors are called to create an object. Does it mean that if I am creating an object of a class, I am actually creating objects of all its super class???

If I had this code:
<h:dataTable value="#{customer.customerList}" var="c"
styleClass="order-table"
headerClass="order-table-header"
rowClasses="order-table-odd-row,order-table-even-row"
>
And in the server getCustomerList() accessed to database, how many times getCustomerList() would be called from I request the xhtml page?. I have read this would be called several times because of JSF internals and It would be better to store it in a variable and access this variable.
1. Is this true this would be called several times? why?
2. If the previous statement was true, how to avoid it, I mean not call the method from a service?

I am a JSP/Servlet newbie currently adding the first servlets to a web site that had been static all along. My local instance worked great but the servlets did not respond on the test instance. Apparently, my hosting service provider requires me to use an invoker servlet mapping.
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>invoker</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/servlet/*</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
Adding this to local web.xml broke the application but the servlets respond on test instance (when their calls are not preceded by another servlet call). A Servlet fails when it is called immediately after another servlet has been called.
What I saw happening on test is URL for first call is of the form:
xxx.org/<app-name>/servlet/<servlet-name>?Id=1
And URL for the second call became:
xxx.org/<app-name>/servlet/servlet/<servlet-name>?Id=1
The servlets are invoked using "href=servlet/<servlet-name>?Id="
How can I avoid the inclusion of 'servlet' in the URL and reset the URL to the JSP page it navigates to after processing of the servlet?
P.S.: I am also trying to enable the Invoker servlet on local so I can troubleshoot easier. I went through the changes to Tomcat's web.xml and context.xml. However, my local servlets did not respond even after calling them using "href=<servlet-name>?Id=". Is there a way I can check if my invoker is active?

I am trying to use iText to create a PDF document. I found a nice tutorial online but one thing stumps me. How do I get the URL of the JSP page that contains the content? Since this will not be static, I don't want to hard code this. I am sure this is something simple but I am fairly new to servlets and JSP.
String File_To_Convert = "test.htm";
How do I get the url of the JSP page?

I am calling a jsp page from my servlet using the requestdispatcher.forward(myjsp.jsp) method. myjsp.jsp is creating a new thread which is parallely processing along with the servlet. The issue is that the jsp page is not displayed until the servlet finishes its execution, although the new thread is created by jsp and is executing in parallel. How do we have the jsp page displayed even when the servlet is executing.
