Servlets :: Create A Service To Embed Widgets On Any Foreign Website

Jan 22, 2015

Its required to create a service to embed widgets on any foreign website(server), using servlets where i'll pass encrypted widgetId and in turn i will get html for displaying it on screen. Also a refresh button with the embedded widget is to be provided so as to fetch updated computed data. The point is that user should copy some html/script code and place it on his website.

I am thinking of following approach.An empty span with id, followed by a js script to make ajax call to the server to get widget HTML.

Servlets :: How To Map Website URL

Nov 25, 2014

I have my mapping as below

<servlet>
<servlet-name>main</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>co.edureka.controllers.MainController</servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>main</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>

So that I can map the first request coming say www.xyz.net to my first page , it does the work but some of my css and images is not getting displayed .

So I did as below

<servlet>
<servlet-name>main</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>co.edureka.controllers.MainController</servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>main</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/first</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>

By doing this my css and images get displayed and everything works fine.

But the problem is I want to display my first page as user puts the url.

I am putting my jsp pages in WEB-INF/jsps , I am not putting it directly under WEB-CONTENT directory.

Servlets :: Large File Uploads Through Http Service

I need to built a file upload service which should be memory effective. I should avoid loading the entire file into memory,Since I may have multiple http request which will pile up the Heap memory. Any effective way to upload a large file(For ex:1GB file) using http Streaming. I need to do the file upload on a single http call. Let's consider a scenario where 1 GB file to be uploaded using 512MB Heap memory. Not Sure If practically I can achieve this or not.

Servlets :: Website Will Be Down For Maintenance Implementation

Jan 24, 2015

So we need to inform all active users of the website that "Website will be down after so and so time for maintenance". This is how I see the implementation.

User can be in any part of the application. So any time user request comes to server, it goes through the controllers. I can write a method (and call from each controller) that checks if message needs to be displayed. Put that into application context and display it. Along with that I will also have a flag that keeps track that if the message has already been displayed or not (to the user). If message has been displayed, no need to call that method again.

Servlets :: Website Loads Correctly Only After A Refresh?

Jan 16, 2015

find out why when I access the site for the first time, it loads a blank white page, but when I reload it, it forwards me to the home page as it should.

I doubt that the reason is nothing else than the code below (in the doGet method):

String email = (String) request.getSession().getAttribute("email");
String cookieValue = null;
System.out.println(email);
// first, checking the session
if (email != null) {
request.getRequestDispatcher("/homelogged").forward(request, response);

[code].....

I suppose it's something with the session... because after I reload it, it works. But! When I close the browser and start all over again, the main page is white-blank again... And after a reload it works.

The exception:

SEVERE: Servlet.service() for servlet [first] in context with path [/MYSITE] threw exception
java.lang.NullPointerException
at controller.Controller.doGet(Controller.java:42)
Line 42 of the Controller is "for (int i = 0; i < cookies.length; i++) {"

P.S. I cleared all the cookies, but the problem persists.Also, the first it loads, it prints in console:

"null
been here 4!"

But, if I reload further, it prints:

"null
been here 4!
been here 2!
No Email! Literally, doGet!"

Use Various Freemarker Templates To Create Web Pages For Website

Feb 23, 2014

I have a Java application and it uses various Freemarker templates to created Web pages for a Web site. Here is a snippet of one of my Freemarker templates that will display the fee description, fee charge, and an add button. The fee has to do with charges that pertain to automobiles. When I click on the "Add" button, I will be taken to another Web page. How would I send the fee.description and the fee.charge to the other page when I click on the "Add" button?

<tr class="${rowclass}">
<td class="leftalign">${Fee.description}</td>
<td class="centeralign"><#if Fee.charge??><#if Fee.charge?trim?upper_case != "No Charge"?trim?upper_case && lot.workOrderFee.charge?trim?upper_case != "Market Price"?trim?upper_case >$</#if>${Fee.charge}</#if></td>
<td class="rightalign">
<input type="button" name="buttonsub" id="buttonsub" onclick="javascript:window.location='myPage.html'" value="Add"/>
</td>

Servlets :: How To Get Result When Website Initially Uploading Rather Than Pressing Button For Action

Oct 28, 2014

I am learning how to program in JAVA servlet+MySQL. Decided to make a simple program where it shows who is celebrating birthday today by retrieving data from database. At the moment I managed to get it working by loading a form.html and pressing the button in it which gets to the result.jsp and shows results there.

My plan was to get a list of people who are celebrating there birthdays initially when the website is loaded/being loaded, I mean when you enter URL into your web browser and you get it instantly in browser. Is there a way to do it the way I want (JAVA+servlet+MySQL) instead of pressing a button/link?

JSF :: 2.2 And Netbeans 8.0 - Create A Website That Has Common Header / Footer And Menu

Aug 26, 2014

I am working with Netbeans 8.0 and JSF2.2. I am trying to create a web site that has a common header, footer, and menu. The only part that would be dynamic is the content. So here goes...

1) I need a common template that has 4 parts, Header, Footer, Menu, Content
2) The header, footer and menu are to be in a separate files of which are called from the main template
3) The content will change based on the menu item changed
4) The menu has to change the content section only

I know how to do this in HTML but I am trying to set up some thing in JSF to learn more on JSF pages. All I am looking for is an example that I can follow along with having the multiple pages as well having the menu change the content (I have done a ton of internet searching but nothing really fits the bill).

This is the code I have currently.

Index (Main Template)
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"

Servlets :: Calling DoGet Of Child Class From Service Of Parent Class

May 28, 2014

Regarding the lifecycle of servlet , in headfirst servlet i can find :

You normally will NOT override the service() method, so the one from HttpServlet will run. The service() method figures out which HTTP method (GET, POST, etc.) is in the request, and invokes the matching doGet() or doPost() method. The doGet() and doPost() inside HttpServlet don’t do anything, so you have to override one or both. This thread dies (or is put back in a Container-managed pool) when service() completes.

How can I call the doGet method of the subclass from the superclass. i am not getting this .

JPA Primary Key From Two Foreign Keys

Oct 22, 2010

I am new with java, eclipse, jpa(eclipselink), postgresql, and trying to make a web application. I have two tables:

bids: id, quantity, price

trades: bidid, askid, quantity, price

bidid and askid columns are foreign keys from bids table (id), and they are the primary key for the trades table.

I created the Entities from the Tables (Bid and Trade class) with eclipse and it generated a TradePK class for the primary key.

Trade.java:

@Entity
@Table(name="trades")
public class Trade implements Serializable {
@EmbeddedId
private TradePK id;

[Code] ....

I understand that this is necessary because the primary key is from two column, but as soon I want to persist a Trade back to the database Eclipselink call the column names twice:

INSERT INTO trades (price, quantity, datetime, BIDID, ASKID, bidid, askid) VALUES (?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?)

So postgres give me back an exception: ERROR: column "bidid" specified more than once

And I don't know why. According to the JPA docs I didn't found any mistake:

Introduction to EclipseLink JPA (ELUG) - Eclipsepedia

Or I just can't see it... or is there a better doc which explains it better?

JSF :: SQL Database - CRUD With Foreign Keys

Aug 12, 2014

I am trying to work with a SQL database and some JSF pages that were created with/for CRUD. The data comes up just fine but all my foreign keys show the primary key for the key not the data. So instead of having the actual Zone I get the number (my primary key) that matches the Zone.

example:
4717A Cool ReceptionTitle: Gatherer of Cool Companycom.vancowboy.lotor_db.LotroZones[ id=11 ]

The last item should read "All" not "com.vancowboy.lotor_db.LotroZones[ id=11 ]"

This was straight from a tutorial so I can learn this but the FK has got me baffled...

Embed MS Access Database With Runnable Jar?

May 13, 2014

my aim is to make a runnable jar. I've made a program using swings which uses MS Access database to fetch records. So, I've used an absolute path to refer to the database for connection. Now, I intend to distribute this runnable jar to other people as well. So I guess the best option would be to embed the MS Access database as well in the jar file. But I don't know how to do that. Where should I keep the database in my Project Explorer ? Should I use a relative path etc.

This is my code:-

Java Code:

import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import java.sql.*;
import java.util.Vector;
import javax.swing.*;
import javax.swing.table.DefaultTableModel;

I have embed a query in the JAVA to retrieve the data from the back end and I use Oracle for back end. What I'm trying to do is in my query has been shown below. The issue here is that result set returns the NULL. But fine when I change the query "SELECT 5 FROM DUAL" and it returns 5 for me which right. When I try to run the same at the back end as a query I'm getting proper result.

public String getReturnPart(String partNumberIn) {
//int returnPartNumber = 0;
  String query =
"SELECT COUNT(*) AS CHECK1 FROM PART_MASTER PM,UNITS_OF_MEASURE UOM WHERE PM.PART_NUMBER = '" +  partNumberIn
  + "' AND PM.UNIT_OF_ISSUE = UOM.UNIT_OF_MEASURE AND UOM.UNIT_TYPE = 0 ";
  //String query = "SELECT 5 AS CHECK1  FROM DUAL"; This returns fine as "5"
  ResultSet result = null;
