Size Of Frame In Gaming Code - Full Screen Mode

Feb 17, 2014

Basically the code is for a game which is displayed in a window. The statement if(false) //full screen mode is confusing me a little. How does this if work? it doesn't seem to be testing for anything so how does it ever get set to full screen mode? Is the if even needed? why not just code windowed mode?

public class Window extends JFrame{
private Window()
{
// Sets the title for this frame.
this.setTitle("My test");
// Sets size of the frame.
if(false) // Full screen mode

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Screen Resolution / Size

Sep 29, 2014

I have created a java gui on Windows 7 with Eclipse EE, using a screen resolution of 1366 x 768. I used groups with specified boundaries. For example:

final Group g5_script_data = new Group(shell, SWT.BORDER_SOLID);
g5_script_data.setText("Current DB");
g5_script_data.setBounds(0, 0, 680, 380);
g5_script_data.setBackground(green);

The groups cover the whole screen.

However my colleague with a smaller resolution looses the far right of the screen.

As this is a proto-type and I'm new to Java I don't want to rework everything or convert it to say a grid layout until the proto-type is accepted and I can start from scratch with a real detailed design. It already has 6500 lines of source.

Just wondered what is my quickest/easiest way to get my app to display on a slightly smaller resolution. For sure it will not be anything silly. Something like 1280 x 768 to 1366 x 768 would do.

Scaling Text According To Screen Size

Jul 4, 2014

What I am creating is a clock. That goes round n round using "getcalendar". It's realtime, but the clock has a constant resolution of 800x800. I have carefully placed numbers from 1-12 on the clock using that resolution placing them pixel by pixel. Now if I resize the window, the clock resizes but the text, it fades away out of the screen because the resolution is too small.

This is how I draw them.

g2.drawString(six, 380, 750);
g2.drawString(twelve, 375, 70);
g2.drawString(nine, 30, 415);
g2.drawString(three, 725, 415);
g2.drawString(one, 570, 120);
g2.drawString(two, 690, 250);
g2.drawString(four, 685, 575);
g2.drawString(five, 570, 700);
g2.drawString(seven, 200, 710);
g2.drawString(eight, 80, 585);
g2.drawString(ten, 80, 235);
g2.drawString(eleven, 205, 115);

I understand why this is happening, obviously because the strings are in a certain place just can't understand how do I make them scaleable? Is there an universal formula? Or do I have to draw every string relevant to some mathematical equation regarding to the screen size.

For example : g2.drawString(twelve, diameter / 2, screenheight / 3);

JComponents Remained On Side When Frame Size Was Increased?

Apr 29, 2014

Below is a picture of a frame which needs is formed/opens as result of the button-click event of a button. I am copying the code of the entire action listener as well. The problem is that the size of the frame set by setSize(x, y), but the components don't appear accordingly. The size of the frame has increased (by setSize(x, y), i had set a different size earlier which was smaller) and so the components appear at one side on the frame.

Java Code:

static class btninstr_Action implements ActionListener{
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent arg0) {
JFrame frame2= new JFrame();
frame2.setVisible(true);
frame2.setSize(500,500);// add custom panel to get perfect work

Store Pixels Values Currently On Screen And Compare Them To Values On The First Frame?

Aug 29, 2014

I need a way to store the pixels values currently on the screen and compare them to the values on the first frame. Right now I'm using glreadpixels as follows:

currentBuffer= BufferTools.reserveByteData(mapSize);
glReadPixels(mapStartX, mapStartY, mapWidth, mapHeight, GL_BLUE, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, currentBuffer);
for (int i = 0; i < mapSize; i++) {
if (currentBuffer.get(i) != baseBuffer.get(i)) {
//Do nothing
continue;
}
//Do something
}

This works perfectly fine but turns out to be a real bottleneck, dropping the fps to a third of what it was. Is there any quicker way? All I'm after is speed, I don't even need to show it on the screen if the comparison is made "behind the scene".

I've looked around on the web but can't see any reason why this code won't work. The code compiles and no errors are reported.

Display Two Numbers / Integer Code And Computed Result To Screen

Oct 26, 2014

Write a program that will read two numbers and an integer code from the keyboard. The value of the integer code should 1, 2, 3, 4. If the value of the code is 1, compute the sum of the two numbers. If the code is 2, compute the difference (first number minus second). If the code is 3, compute the product of the two numbers. If the code is 4, and the second number is zero, compute the quotient (first divided by second). If the code is not equal to 1,2,3,4, display an error message. The program is then to display two numbers, the integer code and the computed result to the screen

here is the code that I have so far:

public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner read = new Scanner (System.in);
int num1, num2, code, sum;
System.out.println("Please enter a number");
num1 = read.nextInt();

Displaying JTextField In Fullscreen Exclusive Mode Without Flickering

Mar 2, 2014

I have been stuck on this now for almost a week, the problem is that the textfield keeps flickering. I have read that swing does not work well with fullscreen exclusive mode, but I'm not sure what else to do other than create my own class similar to a textfield and detect every single key press which doesn't seem the right thing to do.

- If this line is uncommented "TextFieldTest.this.tfChatField.paint(g);" then it will display the textfield at the top of the screen, and a flickering textfield at the bottom(which is where it's meant to be)

Cardlayout Format - Change Main Menu Screen Into Game Screen On Button Click

Mar 16, 2015

I'm making a game of checkers for my A2 Computing coursework which is due in within a week. I have completely finished the game, and only thing I have left to do is connect the two JPanels together via a CardLayout that I have made. However I am unsure how to do so

Here is the code from my CardLayout:

import java.awt.BorderLayout;
import java.awt.CardLayout;
import java.awt.FlowLayout;
import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
import java.awt.event.ItemEvent;
import java.awt.event.ItemListener;
import javax.swing.JButton;

[Code] ....

I have kept the code I am displaying to a minimal, hence I have removed all the action listeners for my buttons, anyway the problem I have is that, I would like it so that when the user clicks on the 'Multiplayer' button which is the array button ourButtons[1], it will then transition into my main game screen so that the user can then play a game of checkers.

Here is the main important GUI from my CheckerBoard class:

import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
  public class CheckerBoard extends JPanel implements ActionListener, MouseListener {
// Main routine that opens an Applet that shows a CheckerBoard
public static void main(String[] args) {
new CLayout();

[Code] ....

Once again kept to a minimal.

How To Keep Track Of Percent Full

May 20, 2014

I'm trying to make a canteen class that holds water. It holds two quarts of water and two quarts is 100%.

public double maxVolume;
public int percentFull;

Right now the Canteen is empty.

public void Canteen()
{
percentFull=0;
maxVolume=0;
}

And right now I'm trying to make a constructor that specifies the amount of liquid the canteen can hold and specifies the percent full.

public Canteen(double maxVolume, int percentFull)
{
}

Should I make this second Canteen an integer, a double, or something else? Also, how do I make sure the Canteen never reaches higher than 100%. I'm also curious how I can keep maxVolume and percentFull connected so the % of water is consistent with the number of quarts(2) the Canteen can hold.

Create A Borderless Window With A Background Transparency Set At Full

Feb 15, 2014

I want to create a borderless window with a background; I want this background's transparency set at full, so that the corners show the image of whatever's underneath, just as in the picture. Then, I want to add an image (or button) to a specific x, y location in the window (which is NOT resizeable, which is my desire) and then have the user able to click the button; button1 does function1, button 2 does function2, etc. But the images (or buttons) must ALSO have transparency, so that you can see the background image.

I wrote this program in VB.NET already; I'm trying to rewrite it in Java, as I can no longer work in VB... the program is simply taking up too much memory and is far too slow. Java should handle the whole process better.

JPanel Rectangle Drawing Relative To The Full Window

Jun 16, 2014

I'm currently making a Breakout clone to learn about different ways of organizing my code and whatnot but I've run into a problem with the positioning of some pieces versus the position of the mouse.

I've created a blue rectangle on the screen that turns white when the mouse hovers over it, BUT it actually only ends up turning white about halfway down and then continues on off the block. I moved the rectangle to 0,0 to see where it draws and it looks like it is drawing to the very top left corner of the window itself but for the mouse coordinates, the top left is just where the black area is and excludes the borders of the window.

Here is the class rendering the rectangle, it extends from a class that in turn extends from the JPanel class:

public class MainMenuState extends MenuState {
JFrame gameFrame;
Graphics2D g;
// PlayButton variables
int playPosX = 0;
int playPosY = 0;
int playWidth = 100;
int playHeight = 50;

[Code] ....

A few other things I tried that I can think off the top of my head: Play around with different layouts (at times this caused the screen to shrink to a small size as well as using pack()), using setSize() setLocation() or setBorder() in the MainMenuState class which had no effect.

Someone on another forum also suggested trying to utilize component.getLocationOnScreen(): I tried two things with the getXOnScreen method, first subtracting with the location of the JPanel which of course gave me the same problem. After that I tried

MOUSE.x = event.getXOnScreen() - gameFrame.getLocationOnScreen().x;
MOUSE.y = event.getYOnScreen() - gameFrame.getLocationOnScreen().y;

but that resulted in some errors (null pointers) and the mouse was just printing out a position of 0,0

Dijkstra's Algorithm - Array Full Of Null Data

May 6, 2014

I'm trying write a Dijkstra's implementation in java. First off, here is the algorithm:

package lab3;
import java.util.HashMap;
import java.util.Stack;

/**
* Compute shortest paths in a graph.
*
* Your constructor should compute the actual shortest paths and maintain all the information needed to reconstruct them. The returnPath() function should use this information to return the appropriate path of edge ID's from the start to the given end.
*
* Note that the start and end ID's should be mapped to vertices using the graph's get() function.
*/
class ShortestPaths {
Multigraph graph;
final int INF = Integer.MAX_VALUE;
PriorityQueue<Integer> Q;

[Code] ....

I followed someone else psuedocode very closely but for whatever reason, my edge[] array is just full of null data, which means I can't actually return the shortest path. Why that's happening/how to fix it? Maybe I'm not understanding dijstra's correctly.

Variable Updated To Point To The New Array Last Full Cell Index Value

Jul 10, 2014

I'm trying to set a variable to point to the last full cell of an array and then create a new larger array and then have the variable be updated to point to the new array's last full cell index value.

a) Should the variable be declared static?
b) What would be the best initial value to set this variable to? Shouldn't it correspond to a <for> loop index rather than a solid integer?

private lastfullcell = a[i];
private int [] a;

c) How would you update <lastfullcell> because if you passed the index through a method's loop index isn't the array index value garbage collected after the method completes?

Web Services :: Code Implementation Generated By Axis2 Code Generator?

I was a bit confused of the code generated by the Axis2 Code Gen.

I have created a logIn(String username, String password) method in my service and used Axis2 Code Gen to generate the Stub.

I try to access the logIn method from my Client using the Stub like below:

TestServiceStub stub = new TestServiceStub("http://localhost:8080/axis2/services/TestService");
String test = stub.logIn("user","pass").

but instead of UserName and password as the parameters, the Stub created a Login object as the parameter for the logIn method. like the one below:

stub.logIn(Login login1);

I wanted to try the logIn method by providing a static userName and password but it seems impossible because the Stub changed the parameter for the logIn method.

how to test the logIn method.
