I am working on an assignment where I initially have to take as input a number. That number will be the number of strings the user is going to type. As they are typed, they are to be sorted alphabetically, then printed. It took me a while to get this far, and I am stuck on how to properly invoke the other methods in main. There has to be at least three methods: main, one to do the sorting, and one to print the new array. I'm quite sure there are mistakes in my code, but this is definitely a challenge for me. Here is the code. Keep in mind that the methods being invoked are blank on purpose.
I am not allowed to use the Arrays, Arraylist or Collection class. This is basically to test my ingenuity and to see how arrays actually work.
import java.util.*;
public class Sort_as_Inserted {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.print("Enter number of elements to be sorted: ");
String element_number = input.nextLine();
An array has objects with String firstName, String lastName, int ID, char examType('M' or 'F'), and int score. Every object has both Midterm('M') and Final('F'). The array has to be sorted by the first Midterm- 'M' and immediately followed by the Final ('F') of the same person (object). Im having troubles with coming up with a proper algorithm with gettin the Final- 'F' after Midterm for the same person.
Java Code: public static Exam[] collateExams(Exam[] exams) { Exam [] r = new Exam[10]; r = exams; int[] position = new int[10]; int index = 0; for(int i = 0; i < exams.length; i++)
I am writing a program that grab user input number which represent beats per minute separated by commas. It then parses the numbers and reorders them from smallest to largest and then outputs the average, medium, maximum and minimum number all in separate lines. I am having trouble getting the array to sort the input from smallest to largest. It is currently only working for 3 numbers inputted. Anything more will not reorder it.

I am new to using arrays. I need to collect user input for book title, author, and # of pages... store that in an array... and then I'm going to need to be able to sort that array. The dialog boxes come up prompting the user for 5 sets of title, author, and # of pages, but when I try to display that information, it isn't working. I am assuming this means that it's not storing the information correctly... so I want to get this corrected before I even try to sort??
import javax.swing.*; import java.util.*; class LibraryBookSort { public static void main(String[] args) { LibraryBook[] someBooks = new LibraryBook[5];
I've been trying to get my program to not accept empty strings when the user inputs, but I'm having some difficulties. I've tried for loops, as well as while loops.
import java.util.Scanner; public class GasMileage { /** * displayIntro * This method displays the introduction to the user */ public static void displayIntro()
I am trying to do is get a user to input their name into the system. Once the user has inputted the name into the system, the system should check to see if the name entered matches "alice". If this is true then the system should print "welcome to the system alice". If it is not alice it should not do anything.
Here is the code I have so far... The fault/ error seems to be with the sInput string in the IF statement.
import java.io.*; public class Hellohuman { public static void main (String[] args) { try { InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(System.in);
I can sort strings in a collection by uppercase and then lowercase though I was wondering if there is any way of doing it in reverse, sorting by lowercase then by uppercase.
how to sort my text file. So far I have been able to read the text file and print it back out, but I am unsure of how to go about sorting it. Must print the colors (in the order of the rainbow first) and if the colors are the same compare the size (bigger is more important)The values I have to sort are written as such in the text file:
blue 18 blue 10 red 27 yellow 4
public class Rainbow{ private String color; private int size; public Rainbow(String color, int size){ this.color = color; this.size = size;
[code]....
I would know how to sort it if it was supposed to be alphabetical order or there were only numbers, but I can't seem to figure out how to sort it when there are strings and integers
I am having trouble with an assignment. I need the user to input the size of the array and print when asked. In my program, it prints 100 numbers instead of the user input number, such as 15.
import java.util.Arrays; import java.util.Scanner; import java.util.Random; public class Lab9 { public static void main(String[] args) { Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in); int [] values = new int [100];
I am trying to do a simple noughts and crosses game. I have displayed a board using a 2 dimensional array and display it using a for loop. The array is of type int. What I want to do is allow the user to choose a specific cell within the array to change to an x or o but I am not sure how to go about doing this. I have seen lots of examples of noughts and crosses online but seem to all be examples of how to check a win or lose situation.how to allow a user to choose certain cells in a 2d array would be great.
Assignment: Your task is to implement a similar scheme to store polynomials of any number of terms, such that the number of terms and the components (coefficient, variable and exponent) of every term are entered from the keyboard. To implement the interactive input we will using the Java class Scanner, defined in the java.utils standard package. The Scanner class can be used in Java to read data types from a file.
Since the input console (keyboard) is treated as the file called System.in, we can create a Scanner for that input stream as new Scanner (System.in), as shown below. Once you define a Scanner object, using its method next() you can read Strings from the file/keyboard. The incomplete program below is your assignment. You are supposed to complete without changing the existing code. Your output should be the terms of the polynomial entered by the user, separated by + signs. Additional instructions in the code below, that you will change to achieve the requested functionality.
import java.util.Scanner; public class Polynomials { public static void storeTerm (int coeff, String var, int exp, String poly[][], int where){ //ENTER THE COEFFICIENT, VARIABLE AND EXPONENT INTO THE //ARRAY POLY THAT REPRESENTS THE POLYNOMIAL, AT POSITION "where" //THAT RANGES BETWEEN INDEX 0 AND POLY.LENGTH-1

Anyways, I'm not looking for straight answers. I just want to know which section I should start on first because I was advised to tackle programs one problem at a time.
I am having an array of strings and i want to find out whether these strings contained in the array contain a similar character or not.For example i am having following strings in the array of string:
aadafbd dsfgdfbvc sdfgyub fhjgbjhjd
my program should provide following result: 3 because i have 3 characters which are similar in all the strings of the array(f,b,d).
I need to pass user input from the main method, which is then validated using another method that is returned as a valid score, and then I pass the valid input to another method that stores the data in an array. The array is initialized within the method. I tried to use an if-else statement to initialize the array, because I originally did this at the beginning of the method. I soon learned that I was creating a new array everything I accessed the method. Needless to say, this isn't working either.
public static void main(String[] args) { int judges = 7; float[] validScores = new float[judges]; for (int i = 0; i < judges; i++) { float score = -1;
I have been asked to write a library program that will keep record of books and the year it was published. The program should ask the user how many rows he wants accept the string input from the user and display them in rows and columns. This is how i code it
package multidimension; import java.util.Scanner; public class bookrecords { public static void main(String[]args){ //declaring a scanner variable Scanner input =new Scanner(System.in);
I have to do a small program about parking. In the 2-d array (parking lot), contains different kinds of cars, the user have to :
1)enter which car he wanna move, 2)what direction (w,a,s,d) and after that, 3) how many moves( not out of bound) he wants to make, and finally 4) we print out the new parking lot for his next move
And i am stuck at how to move the car to corresponding position and then prompt user for the next move?
For example:
I want to move A to the right by 1 (d)
擷取.PNG print result: 擷取1.PNG
How do I do that? The code that i have right now
public class CarParkGame { public static void main( String [] args) { String carPark[][] = new String [6][6] ; carPark[0] = new String[] {"A","A","A","0","0","0"}; carPark[1] = new String[] {"b","0","0","0","0","c"}; carPark[2] = new String[] {"b","X","X","0","0","c","<exit>"};
I am trying to write a code that asks the user to input ten numbers and then finds and displays the smallest number out of the ones given. I am supposed to implement arrays into the program to do this. But the problem I have run into is that when I compile the code in jgrasp, I am given several error messages and I am not quite sure what I have done wrong. I'm assuming it is either a syntax or a logical error on my part but reading over the code I do not understand what is causing these errors.
This is the most current draft of my code:
import java.util.Scanner; public class Exercise7_9 { public static void main(String[] args) { double[] numbers = new double[10]; //Enter ten double numbers: Scanner(System.in) java.util.Scanner input = new java.util.Scanner(System.in); System.out.println("Please enter ten numbers: ");
[Code] ....
/* Sample Run: Enter ten numbers: 1.9, 2.5, 3.7, 2, 1.5, 6, 3, 4, 5, 2 */
And these are the exact error messages:
----jGRASP exec: javac -g Exercise7_9.java Exercise7_9.java:35: error: '.class' expected if (double m > list[i]) { ^ Exercise7_9.java:35: error: illegal start of expression if (double m > list[i]) {
I am writing a program that is supposed to take 3 numbers inputted by the user and sorting them out in an ascending order. I believe my code is correct but can't figure out why the program isn't behaving as expected.
import java.util.*; //Required to use the scanner console public class Week3_Programming_Problem { static Scanner console = new Scanner(System.in); //Allows for user input
Write a java program that will ask a user to input grades until the user inputs the sentinel value -1. The program should test each input to determine whether 0<=grade<=100. If the grade entered is within this range, the program should print "Grade accepted;" if not, the program should print "Invalid input".
I have been struggling with this program for weeks. This program is supposed to take a user's inputted odd number and then print out all prime numbers lower than that number.
public class PrimeNumber { Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in); int userNum; String neg;
I am having a great deal of frustration trying to use the scanner to get user input from the eclipse console. Here is what I am trying to do.
Print a menu for the user with options, take that (1) char input and run it into a switch statement for processing. I have that done and it is working fine.
If the user chooses to enter strings for storage, They are instructed to enter their string and press enter to complete that string entry. Then enter the next string and press enter, etc.
So I have a While loop for this. Get the scanner input, store it in the LinkedList, get the next scanner input, etc. I get the scanner string and store it in a Linked list. That works fine. The user is instructed to simply enter a blank string to end the entry procedure, like just press Enter on the new line without typing a new string.
The problem is the scanner doesn't seem to return anything for me to Test to close this procedure. How do I TRAP the fact that the user just pressed enter so I can end my procedure? I have tried next() and nextLine() and reset(), etc. And I am getting knowhere.
import java.util.Scanner; public class CountStringNumbers { // show the number of Strings that were numbers . . .. public static void main(String []args){ int count = 0; int countNumbers=0; Scanner input=new Scanner(System.in);
[code]...
can count the numbers from 0-9 if the user puted but if it is 10 it doesnt count it , and i need to write all the numbers to have that option. . . . Is there an easy way that includes all the numbers? like if(word.equals(number)){<<<???? (numbers) i know htat doesnt work but is there anything similar ?? ??
countNumbers++; } System.out.println("Type Something , , , and to end the the termination type STOP"); word=input.nextLine(); count++; } System.out.println("You wrote "+count+" lines wich from those lines "+countNumbers+" were numbers and the programe terminated "); } }
how do i get the inputed strings to print out after i turn them into tokens ? I need it to ask for a number and then multiple lines of strings, turn them into tokens, then print them out.
import java.util.*; public class TokenDriver{ public static void main(String [] args){ // TokenStore words = new TokenStore(); String[] tokens = new String[300];
[code].....
also as a follow up how would use an array in an other class (TokenStore) to save the typed line information
public class Lab { public static void main(string args[]) { int ar[]={7,5,2,8,4,9,6}; int sorted[]=new int[ar.length];
/// my code is right here this i can change i keep getting array required int found i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong i do know i need 2 for loops and an if statement.
[code]for(i=0;i<ar.length;i++){ for(j=i+1;j<ar.length;j++){ if(ar.length[i]>ar.length[j] this piece of code cannot change for(int i = 0; i<sorted.length; i++) { system.out.println("sorted[" + i + "] = " + sorted[i]);[/code]
