Swing/AWT/SWT :: Dragging Window Downwards - Screen Alignment?

Oct 29, 2014

I am trying to drag the window down wards and screen has alignment issues. I tried to use WindowListeners, Component Listeners, MouseListeners ect…

But still this problem persists as only I release the mouse after drag down it appears fine that we have handled ComponentResized() method. So how to restrict component size while keep dragging down?

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Dragging Image Beyond JFrame Limits

Jun 26, 2014

How to drag an image beyond the JFrame limits. In Netbeans, when you drag a Java file editor pane out of the main application frame and onto a second monitor, Netbeans provides a semi-transparent image of the pane you're dragging. I would like to reproduce this effect in my own code. I've been able to do this in a test program (code below) using a glass pane, but cannot figure out a good way to get the image to drag beyond the limits of the main application frame. I looked at the DragnGhostDemo from SwingHacks but it has the same limitation. How this could be accomplished?

In the test application below, click on on the button and drag it's image across the application frame.

import java.awt.BasicStroke;
import java.awt.Color;
import java.awt.Component;
import java.awt.Container;
import java.awt.Dimension;
import java.awt.Graphics;

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Why Must All Components In A Container Have The Same Alignment

Dec 10, 2014

I have a JPanel with vertical BoxLayout. It contains four components. I set the JPanel to LEFT_ALIGNMENT, which has no effect on its components. I set the first component to LEFT_ALIGNMENT, which has no effect. Only after I have set all four components to LEFT_ALIGNMENT do any of them align properly.

This suggests that it is impossible to have varying alignments in a container. They must all be the same alignment.

I accept that this is just the way things are: "Java works in mysterious ways." And I'm sure that it is possible to work around this limitation by stacking boxes that themselves have different internal alignments.

But I still wonder what in the world was going on in the minds of the Java developers. Is there a rational reason for this oddity?

This raises my most serious criticism of Swing: the hidden gotcha. Swing is a tangled mess of cross-connecting requirements that are impossible to divine by simple inspection of the documentation. If you want to use, say, a JRadioButton, it's not enough to study the documentation on JRadioButtons; you must also consult lots of documents for which there is no obvious connection to JRadioButton other than it being part of Swing.

Specify How To Delete Only Certain Amount Of Objects On Screen In Graphics Window

Oct 10, 2014

I have a question about how to delete only a certain amount of objects on screen in a graphics window. I have a method that will enable me to get rid of every object of the same type off screen, for example this method:

Java Code:

public void deleteTrees() {
//clears all tree trunks and leaves
for (Iterator<GRect> it = historyT.iterator(); it.hasNext();) {
GObject gobj = it.next();
this.remove(gobj);

[Code] ....

That Will delete all trees.

Now In my main method I populate the screen with trees by doing this

Java Code:

for (int xpos = 10; xpos < getWidth() - 40; xpos += getWidth() / 8) {
drawTree(150, 200, xpos, getHeight() / 2.0 - 50);
historyT.add(trunk);
historyL.add(leave);

} mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

My question is how to specify only deleting x amount of trees instead of the whole thing. I pretty sure I need to use something like history.remove(trunk) and to iterate through the amount of trees specified, but not sure how to implement that.

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Screen Resolution / Size

Sep 29, 2014

I have created a java gui on Windows 7 with Eclipse EE, using a screen resolution of 1366 x 768. I used groups with specified boundaries. For example:

final Group g5_script_data = new Group(shell, SWT.BORDER_SOLID);
g5_script_data.setText("Current DB");
g5_script_data.setBounds(0, 0, 680, 380);
g5_script_data.setBackground(green);

The groups cover the whole screen.

However my colleague with a smaller resolution looses the far right of the screen.

As this is a proto-type and I'm new to Java I don't want to rework everything or convert it to say a grid layout until the proto-type is accepted and I can start from scratch with a real detailed design. It already has 6500 lines of source.

Just wondered what is my quickest/easiest way to get my app to display on a slightly smaller resolution. For sure it will not be anything silly. Something like 1280 x 768 to 1366 x 768 would do.

Centered Alignment For Console

Feb 8, 2015

"Write a java application that displays the following patterns separately one below the other.

Use for loops to generate the patterns. There are 4 Triangle patterns.

All asterisks (*) should be printed by a single statement of the form System.out.print('*');

This is 4-different patterns, not 1-pattern."

The first 2 triangles are right angles and is simple to make with a loop with in a loop

The 3rd triangle is like an inverted christmas tree and the 4th one is a christmas tree. ( It's not showing properly on the board so i deleted it). I can't seem to make the 3rd and 4th triangle line up properly it looks like this (the _ represents blank spaces on the console)

_____*_____

_____**_____

____***_____

____****_____

___*****____

___******_____

__*******

__********____

Notice how the sides of the triangle isn't straight and the triangle looks like its dancing, the assignment requires it to be a straight line. is there anyway to do this? This is suppose to be the output. all the lines of the triangle is straight and not jagged ...

public class myclass {
public static void main(String[] args) {
int counter = 1;
int counter2 = 1;
while (counter != 11){
EmptyLine();

[Code] .....

My code for those particular triangle is in the work because I cant figure out how to make it look like that.

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Displaying PNG In A Window

Jan 31, 2014

That's my third day working in Java using Swing and the IntelliJ Idea IDE.I'm trying to do something as simple as displaying a PNG in a window, and I'm doing this:

public class AboutRapide {
public JPanel mainPanel;
private void createUIComponents() {
mainPanel = new ImagePanel();

[cod]....

the problem is that, in the paintComponent method, the Image is never found when I run my app from the IDE, but it is when I run it from Finder in my Mac. Same application. I think it relates to how the application is launched so I guess what's a proper way to refer to a resource file with an image so it can be displayed no matter how the application is launched?Also if I generate a Jar for the application, as the resource gets into the Jar compressed file, it can't also be loaded.

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Print Preview On Screen For JTable

Apr 9, 2014

I want to build a class that takes a JTable and previews on screen how it will be printed on the default printer. This is what we use to call as "Print Preview", just like MS Word, Excel, etc. As we already know Java does not support this functionality out-of-the-box.

Based on some examples I've found googling I built two classes. The first one TestPreview.java justs shows the JTable and the second one PrintPreview.java previews how the JTable will be printed on the printer.

I have two buttons to go through the pages, "PREV" and "NEXT" and "Print' button to print the JTable. My problem is that when my JTable has too many rows and spans in more than one page PrintPreview does not work. It shows the same page again and again. Also, it does not show the entire JTable data, but only some of them and I can't figure out why.

Below is my two classes.

TestPreview.java
package printpreviewdemo;
import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.BorderLayout;
import java.awt.FlowLayout;

[Code] ....

Below are my screenshots.

anyway, i've changed the code over and over, and think this is the most succinct way i can manage it. but i have a problem. where i've marked the code (*****) and the following line are conditional on each other. so one won't provide the correct answer without the other line executing first, and vice versa (ignore the code after, i haven't looked at where that should be yet ). Anyway I don't really want to rip the code apart, again, because i'm pretty sure it's close.

Method To Wait On Different Swing Window?

Dec 20, 2014

I am trying to create a gambling POS system and having problems with a method trying to get a value right after it was set. A jbutton sets another jframe visible which contains buttons. Upon action of the button, a value is set and the jframe is disposed.

private void btnPrizeActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
PrizeSelling prize = new PrizeSelling();
prize.setVisible(true);//create prize selection window
bin = getButton(); //gets what button is selected to load the correct prizes for correct game
prize.DBconnect(bin);//sends bin number to prize loading method

[Code] ....

As soon as btnPrize is clicked it gets the total value of the prizes selected which of course is 0 because it is ran before it is set. How can I make it wait until the window is closed before continuing?

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Resize Application Depending On Screen Resolution

I developed a swing application using group layout. It resizes when I resize the frame but when I change the screen resolution or when I run the application in a laptop which has small sized screen, the components over lap each other. I need my application to fit according to the screen resolution

The code is as follows

private void initComponents() {
jComboBox1 = new javax.swing.JComboBox();
jButton1 = new javax.swing.JButton();
jButton2 = new javax.swing.JButton();
jLabel1 = new javax.swing.JLabel();
jLabel2 = new javax.swing.JLabel();
jLabel3 = new javax.swing.JLabel();

According to the list item selected, an internal frame will appear in the desktop pane. I use group layout for that internal frame too.

Cardlayout Format - Change Main Menu Screen Into Game Screen On Button Click

Mar 16, 2015

I'm making a game of checkers for my A2 Computing coursework which is due in within a week. I have completely finished the game, and only thing I have left to do is connect the two JPanels together via a CardLayout that I have made. However I am unsure how to do so

Here is the code from my CardLayout:

import java.awt.BorderLayout;
import java.awt.CardLayout;
import java.awt.FlowLayout;
import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
import java.awt.event.ItemEvent;
import java.awt.event.ItemListener;
import javax.swing.JButton;

[Code] ....

I have kept the code I am displaying to a minimal, hence I have removed all the action listeners for my buttons, anyway the problem I have is that, I would like it so that when the user clicks on the 'Multiplayer' button which is the array button ourButtons[1], it will then transition into my main game screen so that the user can then play a game of checkers.

Here is the main important GUI from my CheckerBoard class:

import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
  public class CheckerBoard extends JPanel implements ActionListener, MouseListener {
// Main routine that opens an Applet that shows a CheckerBoard
public static void main(String[] args) {
new CLayout();

[Code] ....

Once again kept to a minimal.
