Swing/AWT/SWT :: Dragging Image Beyond JFrame Limits

Jun 26, 2014

How to drag an image beyond the JFrame limits. In Netbeans, when you drag a Java file editor pane out of the main application frame and onto a second monitor, Netbeans provides a semi-transparent image of the pane you're dragging. I would like to reproduce this effect in my own code. I've been able to do this in a test program (code below) using a glass pane, but cannot figure out a good way to get the image to drag beyond the limits of the main application frame. I looked at the DragnGhostDemo from SwingHacks but it has the same limitation. How this could be accomplished?

In the test application below, click on on the button and drag it's image across the application frame.

import java.awt.BasicStroke;
import java.awt.Color;
import java.awt.Component;
import java.awt.Container;
import java.awt.Dimension;
import java.awt.Graphics;

Swing Program - Show Image On Gray JFrame

Jan 19, 2014

I am trying to make a game with an image on it, and I have one class that gets the image and the other is the game. When I run the program, it just shows my image on a gray JFrame. This leads me to think the image might be covering my whole game, which is weird because it is a mostly transparent image. I have tried resizing it and everything but I don't know what to do..

Here is my image class

Java Code:

import java.awt.image.BufferedImage;
import java.io.File;

Load Image From Database And Show In A Label (setting As Icon)

May 31, 2014

I've an image memorized into a databas in tinyblob form.

I call it in java in this mode:

Product p = new Product();
...
p.setImgByte(rs.getByte("ImmagineByte"));

(p is a javabean, and imgByte is a byte format variable)

Once done that, what i've to do for show it into a swing label?

I've already setted an image retrieving it from an url in this mode

PHP Code: Image img = ImageIO.read(new URL(a.getImmagine()));
Image resizedImage = img.getScaledInstance(imgContainer.getWidth(), imgContainer.getHeight(), Image.SCALE_SMOOTH);
imgContainer.setIcon(new ImageIcon(resizedImage)); mh_sh_highlight_all('php');

But i don't know how to do the same thing with a byte format image inteasd of the url...

JavaFX 2.0 :: How To Dynamically Load Image Into TableView When Its Row / Cell Becomes Visible

Jan 24, 2015

I am building an application that shows tables with large amounts of data containing columns that should display a thumbnail. However, this thumbnail is supposed to be loaded in the background lazily, when a row becomes visible because it is computationally too expensive to to this when the model data is loaded and typically not necessary to retrieve the thumbnail for all data that is in the table.

I have done the exact same thing in the past in a Swing application by doing this:

Whenever the model has changed or the vertical scrollbar has moved:

- Render a placeholder image in the custom cell renderer for this JTable if no image is available in the model object representing the corresponding row
- Compute the visible rows by using getVisibleRect and rowAtPoint methods in JTable
- Start a background thread that retrieves the image for the given rows and sets the resulting BufferedImage in a custom Model Object that was used in the TableModel (if not already there because of an earlier run)
- Fire a corresponding model change event in the EDT whenever an image has been retrieved in the background thread so the row is rendered again

Btw. the field in the model class holding the BufferedImage was a weak reference in this case so the memory can be reclaimed as needed by the application.

What is the best way to achieve this behaviour using a JFX TableView? I have so far failed to find anything in the API to retrieve the visible items/rows. Is there a completely different approach available/required that uses the Cell API? I fail to see it so far.

Custom Image As The Window In JFrame

Jun 12, 2014

I am looking for a solution that will allow me to use a custom background image to replace the JFrame window. I am able to add a background Image, however I am not able to remove the "white" that is supposed to be transparent.

For example; if the image was shaped like a bird with transparent background (.PNG), I would like that to be put on the JFrame. Usually it will be a square with the image in the middle with white background, which I am unable to remove.

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Combining Two JFrames Into One JFrame?

Mar 20, 2014

All I need to do is show in just one JFrame the two combined JFrames. One JFrame namely leftPanel will appear to the left or west and the other namely rightPanel to the right or east using BorderLayout. I already did creating them first as JPanels or as internal classes and subsetted them in one JFrame but that didn't work because it looked messy. And now I've created them as two separate JFrames, compiled separately, and tried to subset them as one in the JFrame. I didn't add any functionality to this program because all I intend to do is to show those two JFrames together in one JFrame. Here's the code:

import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
public class dirtyIceCream extends JFrame {
leftPanel westPanel;
rightPanel eastPanel;
public dirtyIceCream()

[code].....

What am I missing or did I code anything wrong here? Or should I use NetBeans IDE for anything as complicated as this?

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Setting Size Of JFrame

May 26, 2014

I am rather new to Swing, and I am building a game right now in which I need to display a pop-up window as a reminder for what commands exist within the game. I created a class extending JFrame for this and added all the information I need. However, for some reason, no matter how many different ways I try to set the size of this window (setSize(w, h), pack(), using a different layout, adding the compnents to a JPanel first and setting the preffered size of that, then adding the JPanel to the JFrame), it doesn't work. Instead of a window of my requested size, I get a tiny, maybe 100 x 100 pixel window that needs to be resized in order for its contents to be visible.

import java.awt.FlowLayout;
import java.awt.Font;
import java.awt.GridLayout;
import java.awt.Toolkit;
