Swing/AWT/SWT :: Embedded Browser In A Standalone Java App Running On Windows
Aug 24, 2014
I have an embedded browser in a standalone java app running on windows. The browser calls up web pages over the internet with no problem.
import org.eclipse.swt.browser.Browser;
final Browser browser = new Browser(group01, SWT.NONE);
browser.setBounds(0, 0, 1000, 400);
browser.setVisible(true);
browser.pack();
browser.setUrl(texturl.getText());
I have a C executable which captures and documents network traffic. I communicate with it by entering http://27.0.0.1:6500 into any browser (it works with them all). It responds with a simple html form (three buttons, a tick box, a label, and one text box).However I cannot get it to work with the embedded SWT browser.

At our company we run a third-party Java-based GUI application on one of our Linux server machine, displaying the application to our local Windows work stations using the Cygwin X Server.We noticed a few problems with a new version of this application and was able to narrow it down to the following conditions:
1. Java Swing application running on a UNIX host;
2. Java used is 1.6 (problem not noticed when using Java 1.5)
3. Displaying to Cygwin X server (I've heard other windows-based X servers have the same issue, but I don't have access to any others at this time).
If we run the application natively on Windows, I'm told if the application runs on the Linux host and displays natively to that machine's display there are no problems (although I'm not able to verify this myself).The problems are:
1. Any new frame/dialog is opened in the geographic center of the dual displays, rather than in the middle of one or the other;
2. Any attempt to drag the window to a different location on the display seems to work, but as soon as you let go of the drag, the window snaps back to the original location. This only happens the first time you try to move each window.
3. Drop-down controls (JComboBox, for example) just close back up as soon as you click on them. If you click and drag the mouse to attempt to make a selection, no selection can be made.
Are these known problems using 1.6 on UNIX displaying to Windows-based X Servers?
The only real problem is number 3. I expect that if I put more work into the window placement, I should be able to get past number 1. Number 2 is just a minor annoyance.The following is a simple Java Swing application which when run in the correct environment will exhibit the problems.
import java.awt.EventQueue;
import java.awt.GridBagConstraints;
import java.awt.GridBagLayout;
import java.awt.Insets;
import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
[code]....

I manage a small company through our bank's online system, that uses java, but I can't access it through any browser , they all give the same issue; after I choose the certificate file on my PC, nothing happens.
If i dual boot Ubuntu on my PC it works, so it's clearly something with the Windows installation.
Things tried :
- Reinstall Java, multiple times
- Clean anything Java and Oracle related in my PC (except registry, I don't know how to fuzz with that)
- Different browsers

I'd like to know if there's a way to embed Windows Painter (mspaint.exe) in a browser. I'm not sure it's possible with Java and if it doesn't, any relevant reference to this subject.

my web browser isn't displaying any web page. When I create the method editorPane.setPage(), it takes forever (about 20 seconds) to show nothing. It'll load the web browser after the 20 seconds of waiting. Here is my code:

public Browser() {

this.setSize(Desktop.getSingletonInstance().getWidth(), Desktop.getSingletonInstance().getHeight());

How to deploy Java Swing application as windows software. I have tried the following to do this :
I have created jar file for my project after that created exe file using Launch4j and Advanced installer, exe file produced by both software are working fine but those are placing the jar file inside that exe file, My problem is any one who has that exe file can extract and view the source code by decompiling java class file. Is there any way to deploy java application without decompiling the code.

I don't know if this is appropriate to Swing/AWT, or even if this is a Java issue, but I had quite a shock recently. I have been working on a kind of drawing program in which the user can select tiny control rectangles and drag them around, causing the shape of a polygon to change. (They are not implemented as Java Polygons or Shapes because some are one-dimensional). I have gotten it into pretty good shape, so I exported it from Eclipse, my development platform, into a standalone Java application. In the standalone application, each time I drag the mouse, the redrawing shows nasty flickering, as if it's running too slowly. While I was developing the application inside Eclipse, it ran perfectly, with no flickering whatsoever.
What gives? I'd expect that the in-Eclipse runs would be slower, because they're burdened with extra debugging baggage, while the exported standalone version should run faster. But the reverse is the case.

Using Netbeans 7.4, I have hand coded a GUI (SE desktop distributable application), created a single table database (Java DB using 'Embedded Driver' connection).
As I'm at that stage of creating a (non-CRUD) database application using Hibernate 2.0, is it possible to use the Java DB/Embedded Driver with Hibernate or does it need to be a 'localhost' connection?

I'm reasonably new to Java and NetBeans.
I'm developing an SE Java application which allows the user to view a database that I've created. I've done the data binding to a JTable but don't see any data. I've read the Derby/Java DB manual and it seems that I need to put data into this Embedded database (single table). All I want to know is how to put the data in - can I copy the files from '.netbeans-derby' folder or do I have to utilise another method?

The following programs exist:
1. I have a java application which accepts bio potential data every second or two and stores it in the database. This is a socket server which accepts this data from multiple clients and spawns a new thread for processing it to store in the db.
2. I have a jsp page on tomcat server which reads historic client data from database (stored by application 1) and displays it on the page.
The socket server program in 1.) above is not running inside of tomcat server.The new requirement now is : Display all of the human data coming in live on the jsp page.Now the problem: I will now need to pass the live data from socket server (which is stand alone) to the jsp which is running on a tomcat server.
Possible solutions:
APPROACH 1: Run the socket server in the tomcat instead of stand alone and store the frequently incoming data in a java object so the jsp can access this object every second and display it on a graph.
PROBLEM : The stand alone java application does not need to be included in a tomcat server except for the fact that the jsp needs access to the live data. Also, I have read that this is not the best way.
APPROACH 2: Expose the stand alone java application as a web service and communicate with the jsp using REST architecture.
PROBLEM : The complication of using this method is that it will not have the flexibility offered by websockets or server sent events (SSE) of auto updating the latest data. The jsp will have to keep polling for new data every one second which is also not a very good option.

What best API or whatever you call for browser automation? I mean clicking links, filling forms, gathering sources and other info. I already tried selenium WebDriver. It have all needed functions but there is no feature like attaching code into already opened browser so even doing google search it opens new browser window (opening takes ~5-10secs). Also I believe that there is no way that I could embed that browser into GUI.
Also tried WebSpecs and old Watij but also didnt found any way to attach or embed browser into my GUI.
So what I need is that I could create GUI with embeded browser and bunch of buttons. I click buttons then embeded browser clicks links, gets info etc.

My plan is to use the songs in the array and search for it through youtube and then possibly load the first video result that YouTube finds.I know what I have made so far is a beginner application but as for browser interaction,

So this is my package structure:
Projectsrccom.mypackageMyClass.java
resourcesicon.pngmyexe.exe
Right now I have to run the exe like this : - It has hardcoded the path of the exe :command = "cmd /c start /b cmd.exe /K "cd " + outputFolderPath
+ " && C:myfoldermyexe.exe " + "param1=value1 param2=value2 " ;
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command); This works fine. But, When I package it as a jar I want to give a relative path to my resources folder. How can I make this happen?
I tried:File f = new File("resources/myexe.exe");
String path = f.getAbsolutePath();
but this "path" did not work.
Another way would be to extract the exe to a local path on the server, but there is a possibility that I could face permission issues.

I've got the game working just fine, but I don't like the way it starts playing the second you hit the "Run Last Class" button in Eclipse, and would really like to have the game start, then wait for the user to click a button before running the core WHILE loop. Everything is implemented in a single class, and here is the playGame method that starts the ball moving:
private void playGame(){
while (!gameover){
moveBall();
checkForCollisions();
}
All I want to do is pause before the WHILE loop until the users clicks the mouse button, nothing fancier than that! I've done quite a bit of reading, and it looks like ActionEvent may be the way to go, but I'm not clear on how to use it correctly in this scenario.
