Make Shapes Besides Making Two Lines For X And Oval With White Smaller Oval Inside To Make O

May 8, 2014

We are making a tic tac toe game for my CS120 class and I am having trouble figuring out how to make our X's and O's. Is there a way to make shapes besides making two lines for an X and an oval with a white smaller oval inside to make an O? We have only learned the basics so far in class (i.e. events, inheritance, client-supplier, etc.)

These are our instructions:

Write a controller that controls the game. There is one human player (the X player) and the computer player (the O player). The name of the class must be TicTacToeController. In a sense, the controller is the game since the controller will 1) create a TicTacToeModel 2) create a TicTacToeView and 3) create a TicTacToeButton (you must write this class following the design pattern covered in class lectures), a label, and text field such that when the button is pushed, the player moves into the cell selected by the text field. After every player move, the computer moves into a randomly selected empty cell. When the game is over, a text message must be displayed somewhere on the screen the gives the status of the game. While you are free to change the appearance of the controller, the basic elements must be provided (a view of the game, a button, and a text field to enter the cell). A sample screenshot is displayed below.And this is the code i have thus far:

[import java.awt.*;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
public class TicTacToeView extends Rectangle
public TicTacToeView(int x, int y, int w, int h) {
super(50,60,w,h);
this.setBackground(Color.red);
JFrame win = new JFrame("Tic Tac Toe");
win.setBounds(10,10,w+100, h+100);
win.setLayout(null);
win.setVisible(true);
win.setBackground(Color.gray);

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Panel Doesn't Refresh When New Component Added If Smaller Than Largest Visible Component

Jan 26, 2014

I have a JPanel that's using a simple GridBagLayout.

JPanel panel = new JPanel();
GridBagLayout qPanelLayout = new GridBagLayout();
qPanelLayout.columnWidths = new int[] { 0 };
qPanelLayout.rowHeights = new int[] { 0 };
qPanelLayout.columnWeights = new double[] { Double.MIN_VALUE };
qPanelLayout.rowWeights = new double[] { 0.0 };
panel.setLayout(qPanelLayout);
componentCount = 0;

Based on user input I am adding sub-panels to the panel. These sub-panels may vary in height. They take up the full width of the Panel.

public void add(Component comp) {
GridBagConstraints gbc = new GridBagConstraints();
gbc.fill = GridBagConstraints.HORIZONTAL;
gbc.insets = new Insets(2,2,2,2);
gbc.gridx = 0;
gbc.gridy = componentCount++;
panel.add(comp, gbc_questionPane1);
}

The odd behaviour I'm seeing is that if the height of the new sub-panel I'm adding is less than the height of the largest sub-panel currently displayed then the main panel does not repaint. If its height is equal or greater then the Panel does repaint, and any sub-panels that were added but not visible before are now painted. What have I missed?

Swing/AWT/SWT :: Window To Submit Data Freezing When Created Inside Mouse Clicked Event

Feb 18, 2014

I'm trying to right a GUI in swing, and as part of my program, I want to open a secondary window out of the main window when a mouse clicks on the main window. Then, once I click a button on the secondary window, I want that window to close and submit data to the main window (like an info form). I have almost figured out how to do this, except for one problem. By putting a variable inside my form window called "ready," and then in my main window running a loop that constantly checks if ready is true and doesn't proceed until its true, I can create the form window, modify the values in it (currently just one value called "difficulty" that's modified by a jSlider), and then when i click the "begin" button, ready is changed to true, the form window closes, and the main window can proceed. However, when I try to put the while loop checking the ready variable inside a mouseClicked method in the main window, the form window freezes when it opens, and you can't see any of its content or modify it in any way (you can't even close it).

Here is my code:

//form window class
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
import javax.swing.event.*;
public class formWindow extends JFrame {
private JTextField instructions1;

Swing Button That Creates A New Button

Nov 29, 2014

I am creating a mad libs type program. This section of code is for the user to be able to make their own mad lib template (that people will be able to fill out later). The normal blanks in a mad lib are for verb, noun, adjective, adverb, etc. I cam up with 13 or so of these buttons, but it would be nice that if the user wants to add a button that they think we missed, such as 'Person in the Room' or 'Silly Location'...that the user would be able to do this. I sort of pictured there being a button that says 'add button' or something like that. Is there a ways to do this with the way I've set things up?

public class MadLibs {
public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException {
////////////////////
//TEXT PANE WINDOW//
////////////////////
//Set up a JTextPane object : The JTextPane is a specialized form of the JEditorPane
//designed especially for the editing (and display) of styled text.
final JTextPane pane = new JTextPane();

How To Make Print Employee Button To Print Info Of Other Class

Apr 12, 2014

Basically the class is supposed to have a static variable that keeps track of the number of companies (numberOfCompanies) that have been created and a static method that returns the value of this variable. I need to have a constructor and a method to addEmployee, a method to printCompany, and a toString method. The addEmployee method will check that there is only 1 salesperson, 2 designers, and 4 manufacturing persons at a time and will check that there are no more than 7 employees of the company.

The addEmployee method will return a String indicating what the error is (i.e. "There is already a sales person in this company") or a null if the employee was added. If attempting to name a third company, an error message will be shown. what i have so far but my print company mmethod returns null company class :in which i am obliged to use inputdialog because it says that it cannot return void when i use the showmeassage diaolog.

company class:

import java.util.ArrayList;
import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
public class Company {
private ArrayList<Employees> list ;
private static int numberOfCompanies;

[Code] ....

error message when print button is clicked:

Java Game - Breaking Down A Method To Smaller Methods And Where To Call

Aug 6, 2014

I have a question about a method I have. In my game, I had a move method to move my player left and right, and originally this method was huge, as it also took care checking collisions and a few other things. I broke it up a bit and put the collisions in their own methods and call them from again another method... Here is an extract which I hope illustrates my point:

private static final double MOVE_SPEED = 0.2;
private static final double MAX_MOVE_SPEED = 3.5;
private static final double STOP_SPEED = 0.18;
private double xPos;
private double yPos;

[Code] .....

Something I thought might be a good idea is to check the direction collision when im doing the calculations for that direction:

if(moveLeft) {
dx -= MOVE_SPEED;
(dx < -MAX_MOVE_SPEED) {
dx = -MAX_MOVE_SPEED;
}
checkLeft();
}

But then I would also need to check it when I'm slowing down the left movement:

if(dx < 0.0) {
dx += STOP_SPEED;
if(dx > 0.0) {
dx = 0.0;
}
checkLeft();
}

Then I thought instead i can check it after both of these steps:

if(moveLeft || dx < 0.0) {
checkLeft();
}

I guess my question is quite general: How much is acceptable to break up a method? How many chains of method calls is acceptable? Is it ok to call the same method from different nearby places?

Algebra - Perfect Square Java Program / Find Smaller Integer N

Sep 22, 2014

Write a program that prompts the user to enter an integer m and find the smallest integer n such that m * n is a perfect square. (Hint: Store all smallest factors of m into an array list. n is the product of the factors that appear an odd number of times in the array list. For example, consider m = 90, store the factors 2, 3, 3, 5 in an array list. 2 and 5 appear an odd number of time in the array list. So, n is 10.)

so far my program is just like this.

import java.lang.Math;
import java.util.Scanner;
public class PerfectSquare {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner m = new Scanner(System.in);
int Fint;

[Code] .....

how do i make the program find the smallest integer n?
