I decided to change the mouse cursor based on the theme of the game. This is the code that I wrote for the declaration of the cursor:
ImageIcon imageIcon = new ImageIcon ("cursor / cursor.gif");
Image img = imageIcon.getImage ();
Toolkit t = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit ();
Cursor cursor = t.createCustomCursor (img, new Point (0,0), "cur");
this.setCursor (cursor);
Having to click on different JButton in the menu of the game, a few screens later, I have to manage something in particular, such as determining the point of clicks that allows the action to take place?
In particular I would like to change the point of hotspots. The size of 136x163 is cursor.gif
Image - TinyPic - Servizio di hosting d'immagini, condivisione immagini & hosting di video gratuito
As you can see in the image I want to create the point of hotspots in the red dot of the image. How should I do to pass the correct coordinates in Point?

I've been creating a digital clock using Java, and have made the mouse cursor invisible after a set period of time (40-seconds) and had the thought to make it visible again if mouse was moved.
Here's the code that makes it invisible:
ActionListener mouseTimeout = new ActionListener() {
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
setCursor(blankCursor);
}
};
/* Make mouse cursor disappear after 40 seconds */
Timer mTimeout = new Timer(40000, mouseTimeout);
mTimeout.start();
And here is what I have so far for making it visible again:
MouseMotionListener mouse = new MouseMotionListener() {
@Override
public void mouseDragged(MouseEvent e)
{
}
@Override
public void mouseMoved(MouseEvent e)
{
}
};
I have tried using "setCursor(DEFAULT_CURSOR)" but NetBeans says that it "cannot find symbol" .....

I have created a gui which accepts username in the text field and once clicking on submit button it fetches user details and throws it on gui via JTable.
But when i click submit for the second time using different username the background process goes well and good the vector that i pass to jtable changes with new data but the values in gui still contain the old data.

Tried creating a simple sample but all works as expected.
The following code prevents the cursor from moving when inside a cell of a JTable.
public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e) {
if ( (e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_KP_LEFT) || (e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_KP_RIGHT)
|| (e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_RIGHT) || (e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_LEFT) )
{
//Do nothing
e.consume();
}
}
});
When editing a cell, the existing code would use the right/left cursor keys to move from cell to cell as opposed to from character to character when editing a cell. I planned to override the functionality by tossing in the above code as a test to see if it stops the functionality before I override it.
After placing in the above code, the above functionality no longer occurs, but now the cursor moves within the cell as I wanted which is to move from character to character instead of cell to cell. Its great it works, but it really shouldn't. Essentially the default behavior has been restored when it should have really disabled the left/right keys.
I assume there is some underlying class someplace that is doing something to affect the behavior. Since a sample can't be provided I am wondering in what scenarios would the e.consume() restore default functionality?

I am trying to export data from a jtable to a pdf report but every time i try running the code it gives me this exception:
Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.NullPointerException
at GUI.QC_receiving_book.printButtonActionPerformed(QC_receiving_book.java:309)
at GUI.QC_receiving_book.access$600(QC_receiving_book.java:26)
at GUI.QC_receiving_book$7.actionPerformed(QC_receiving_book.java:165)
at javax.swing.AbstractButton.fireActionPerformed(AbstractButton.java:2018)
[Code] ....
I tried avoiding the null exception by using the if statement but it didn't work. The row I choose from the table is full meaning there are no empty attributes. and all the data are imported from a mysql database to the table as String so there can't be any casting errors.
This is the part of the source code with the problem and i will also post the printing method. I tried debugging the class and when stepping into the first if statement it opened the jTable.java file and pointed at the getSelectedRow() method and this sentence "variable information not available.source compiled without -g option"
private void printButtonActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
if(samplesTable.getSelectedRow() >= 0){
int row = samplesTable.getSelectedRow();
System.out.println(row);
for(int x=0;x<samplesTable.getColumnCount();x++){
String value = samplesTable.getModel().getValueAt(row, x).toString();

I have my paint application, i use the following mouse event to draw my shapes (mousePressed, mouseReleased, mouseDragged). Now after the user paint a circle for example, he must be able to drag the shape; to be able to do this. i think i must again implement the different mouse Events. I have done it and the drag is not working. How can i achieve this. can we implement multiple (mousePressed, mouseReleased, mouseDragged) in the same java class??

I've got the game working just fine, but I don't like the way it starts playing the second you hit the "Run Last Class" button in Eclipse, and would really like to have the game start, then wait for the user to click a button before running the core WHILE loop. Everything is implemented in a single class, and here is the playGame method that starts the ball moving:
private void playGame(){
while (!gameover){
moveBall();
checkForCollisions();
}
All I want to do is pause before the WHILE loop until the users clicks the mouse button, nothing fancier than that! I've done quite a bit of reading, and it looks like ActionEvent may be the way to go, but I'm not clear on how to use it correctly in this scenario.

I have been reading several suggested solutions for implementing autocomplete for a JTextField. However, the documentation is a bit confusing to me. It seems like they mostly require switching to a JComboBox. Can I or can I not continue to use a JTextField and implement an autocomplete feature? I also saw what I thought was a built-in autocomplete "decorator" for swing objects (although it was not clear if it can be used for JTextField) but most of the implementations seem to start from scratch. Any simplest way to implement this (assuming those 2 conditions are not mutually exclusive)?

I am trying to get the data entered in a JTextField into a JTable but not clear on how. The LeftPanel is where the button is located and the RightPanel is where the JTable is. I want the actionPerformed to update the row of the JTable but I can't figure out how. There is another class that controls the GUI but did not think it was necessary to include. Also, I am aware that I am getting an error at the addRow line, can't seem to alleviate it.

I'm having a hard time finding out the way to make JTextField editable. In what circumstances it can be disabled to write? [even the text in the field can't be selected, not to mention being uneditable. I did the followings to make it editable.
1. In its Properties panel(frame or whatever), checked the "editable" item.
2. In the code I made it run the code below :
void makeFieldsEditable(Boolean flag) {
Left_Name_field.setEditable(flag);
Left_Name_field.setEnabled(flag);
...
}
Is it related with the properties of the control(JTextField)'s surrounding panel, or even the largest containing frame? Using Netbeans ....

I recently began writing a much larger program than I will show. I have boiled the problem down to this SSCCE.
import javax.swing.JFrame;
import javax.swing.JPanel;
import javax.swing.JRadioButton;
import javax.swing.JTextField;
import javax.swing.SwingUtilities;
class TextButton extends JRadioButton
[Code] ....
What i wanted was a JRadioButton with no label carrying around a JTextField. When I added a restore configuration feature in the real program, i found that the text destined for the JTextField was being echoed into the JRadioButton.
Perhaps it is obvious but i sure don't see what I am doing wrong. I am using Java 1.7.0 for development if that makes a difference.

I have made a window using JFrame and on my JPanel I have added 3 components: 2 JTextFields ("field1" and "field2") and inbetween them a JButton ("switch"). My goal is to switch the value of field1 to field2 and vice versa when the JButton is clicked. I thought this ActionListener which I have added to my JButton would achieve my goal:
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
field2.setText(field1.getText());
field1.setText(field2.getText());
}
However, it changes the value of field2 into the value of field1 but not the other way around.
