Swing/AWT/SWT :: Resize Columns In JTable That Has No Header?
Feb 26, 2014
Is it possible to allow users to resize columns in a JTable that has no header? I'd like the user to be able to grab the column lines on any of the data rows and be able to resize just like they can in the header.
I want to create a JTable which "Analysis","Date" and "Price" the names of columns in header. Here's a piece of my code :
String sql = "Select name, Price from analysis_tab where name ='" + idclicked + "'"; DateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy/MM/dd"); Date date = new Date(); PreparedStatement preparestate = database.con.prepareStatement(sql); ResultSet rs = preparestate.executeQuery();
So, the value of Analysis and Price were stored in my Data Base, and the Date get the value of the current day. How can i create this JTable and how can i set the value into it ?
I'm working on a spreadsheet-like table and I was able to set it so that it would highlight the first cell in the relevant row(titled 1,2,3.. etc) when a cell is clicked. (Just like in MS Excel - preview attached) Now I want to do the same to the column header(i.e. A,B,C,D....etc) . How can I do it?
private void formWindowOpened(java.awt.event.WindowEvent evt) { setLocationRelativeTo(null); int rowNum = sheet.getRowCount(); for(int i=0; i<rowNum; i++){ sheet.setValueAt(i+1, i, 0);
I'm using the tableview-component. The size of font of header is greater then that of cells. The problem is: the width of the column bases on the cell with the longest string and if the header-string is longer then the header gets truncated (it shows ellipsis) and I have to change the width of column manually. How could I solve this problem? The easiest way would be to compute the column-width on myself. I can't find any method in javafx, that would allow to compute the width of string in pixels. In Swing there is the FontMetrics class and Graphics class, so it is easy to get the width in pixels. Are there any pendants to this classes in JavaFX?
I am very new to Java Swing. I have to create a TreeTable in Java Swing with a Parent Row having say 6 columns and its all child row having just 4 columns. like shown below
I am making a gui in which i read values from text file to JTable. But i want to define the column header as A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I. Now when i read, the values from text file are getting displayed in Jtable headers. How can i achieve the column header as A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I.
import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; import java.io.*; import java.util.*; import javax.swing.*; import javax.swing.table.*; public class Bb extends JFrame {
I have a JScrollPane with two coulmns. In the first column I have an image pane JTable, and in the second a list with names of sections. This second column I try to divide in two columns, one (the second column) to display the names of the sections (each row contains one name), and in the other column (the third) I want to show some values for every section in the row respectively. But, instead of displaying the desired values in the third column, I get the same names of the sections as in the second column. Here is a part of the code I have:
private Vector<Section>daten = new Vector<Section>(0); //These are the values for the first column in the Jscroll private String[] header = {"Section","calcGYR"}; // These are the values for the second and third column (in this case the header for the both columns public TrafficObserveModel(Vector<Section> daten) { setData(daten);
[code]....
But I don't know how to modify the methods in order to render the desired integer values in the third column.
I have a database table containing two columns A and B. They both contain integers. I'd like to know if it's possible, when displaying them in a JTable, to be combined in one column X. I still need, however, to be able to distinguish them from each other when selecting a row from the JTable. E.g. to store each of the values in a a separate variable. Maybe I can combine them when reading from the ResultSet and use some sort of delimiter ? But how?
I need to create a program that draws a graph, but for now, all I have done is two lines: the X and Y axis. The program is designed in a way as to automatically resize the graph when the window is resized.
Is this code in some way extremely inefficient? I get TERRIBLE flickering when I resize the window. Is there something that will at least reduce the flickering?
mainApp.java: import java.awt.*; import javax.swing.*; public class mainApp { public static void main(String[] args) { JFrame frame = new JFrame(); frame.setSize(300,300); frame.setVisible(true);
[Code] ....
I have added a screenshot that shows the window flickering.
I have a problem with my program. My aim is to display in a JPanel, 2 rectangles from an arraylist, and resize them by clicking. I want to give the user the ability to change the height of the rectangles (independently) by moving the top and/or bottom edges. There is errors in my code but where ? Netbeans underlines 2 lines (in bold).
I have swing UI designed and I want the components to resize when the frame is manually resized. The design is as shown in the fig Project UI.jpg
The panel 4 and panel 5 will change their contents according to the list item clicked. Panel 4 just has text area but panel 5 a panel with numerous components as label, combo box, text field,check box will be present.Now if the frame resizes, I won't all the components to resize according to the frame size.
Any way to resize an ImageIcon when placing it on a Button so that I don't have to physically rezize the image file?? I am writing an Application, not an applet, so the getImage method won't work.
Lets say the JDialog opens 5x5. The user is allowed to modify its size to be any size larger than 5x5 but is not allowed to make it smaller. Is there such a property or will this have to be regulated via code?
My JPanel when adding components to it will never make its self larger but it will make my components inside smaller even though I have set the minimum and preferred sizes for those components? I am using the GridBagLayout for my layout manager as I am trying to get used to it.
I developed a swing application using group layout. It resizes when I resize the frame but when I change the screen resolution or when I run the application in a laptop which has small sized screen, the components over lap each other. I need my application to fit according to the screen resolution
The code is as follows
private void initComponents() { jComboBox1 = new javax.swing.JComboBox(); jButton1 = new javax.swing.JButton(); jButton2 = new javax.swing.JButton(); jLabel1 = new javax.swing.JLabel(); jLabel2 = new javax.swing.JLabel(); jLabel3 = new javax.swing.JLabel();
[Code]...
According to the list item selected, an internal frame will appear in the desktop pane. I use group layout for that internal frame too.
I'm using a jpanel with an 8 by 8 grid layout of jlabels to which I'm adding images to represent a chess board. At first, I was using the ImageIcon class to initialize my icons, but as soon as I added these icons to the labels, the labels no longer changed size with the window (which I want to happen). URL...
So I copied in the class, and initialized a different set of icons using the stretch icon class (specifically, the method that allows you to initialize a stretch icon from a filename), however, when I use these stretch icons, the result is the same. Is something wrong with the class, or with my implimentation of it, and how would I fix this?

I'm trying to create a chess program in java swing, and for the board I'm using an 8 by 8 array of jlabels stuck inside a jpanel with a grid layout. I would like the board to change size when the window changes size, and the grid layout accomplishes this succesfully, until I add the actual icons to the jlabels. Then the board just stays a fixed size. Someone suggested I use their "Stretch Icon" class, found here:[URL] ...., so I tried initializing the icons using one of the constructors in the class (the one that takes an image name and a boolean value for whether or not you want the resisizing to be proportionate (to maintain the aspect ratio)). However, the same thing happened. The board appears, but it does not resisize. To attempt to fix this problem, I tried simplifying my code, reducing the program to two jlabels within the jpanel, for which I then tried to set the image in the same way. Here is my simplified code:
I'm trying to create a table where the Header is a custom object.
The custom object would be something along the lines of
public MyColumnObject { String myLabel; ArrayList dataForDropdowns; int defaultColumnIndex; int modifiedColumnIndex; String tooltip; }
This is simpler then what I want to do, but it's the basic concept. I want the column header to render the myLabel for the visual (at least at first). I want this render to be applied to however many columns I have, which will differ from table to table, but I always want the column header of each column to be of type myColumnObject.
I thought somethinglike this would work, but I'm getting java.lang.ClassCastException: java.lang.String cannot be cast to myColumnObject which makes sense, but I thought that I would be getting back my object.
p.s. I re-labeled all my code from my actual project, so if something looks off, it was probably just the re labeling.
public NewTestTable(MyColumnObjects[] fields) { setModel(new TestObjectTableModel( new Object [][] { }, fields ) { private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; public boolean isCellEditable(int rowIndex, int columnIndex) {

I have an application that displays a GUI and this GUI displays a table with several columns and rows. I have a class that extends DefaultTableModel. I wrote the code that displays the GUI. When the database table changes, how would I updated the GUI dynamically? Do you have any sample code that does that?
My JTable has a row, row number 0, which I always want to be at the top.I tried the following two approaches, both without success:
1- Use a custom table cell renderer for the header, and create a header of two rows. the second row is my JTextField.
Problem: I cannot get the JTextField to function properly. (I've seen examples with a checkbox in the header, but that one just reacts to a click somewhere on the header, my textfield must be editable).
2- Use the first row of the table. This works quite nice. However, I must prevent row 0 to be re-ordered when sorting the table.
I was thinking to add a prefix (either something like "___" or "zzz" depending on current sorting mode), but I do not know which methods to adjust for this exaclty.
Another approach would be to have N textfields above the JTable in some layout (or two JTable's on top of each other).
However, Then I would need to react to the re-ordering and re-sizing of all columns as well, which does not seem easy to me.
I have encountered a very tricky spot in a project that i am working on. I must have a JTable to programmatically select the very last row in an AbstractTableModel. I have tried every thing but nothing works so far.
The problem is is that the JTable only scrolls down to the second last table row in the model? What am i missing?
//Show the very last row in a tablemodel object using the method updateTableRows //after an "insert action event" occurred public void updateViewMode(String name, java.util.List<NetworkSwitch> list, boolean flag) { CableTableModel model = cableTable.getCableModel();
[code]....
What happens is that the only row that gets selected is the second last row of the total rows iny AbstractTableModel object, "CableTableModel"
