Swing/AWT/SWT :: Updating DefaultTable Model - Placing Text?

I have been going in circles trying to update a JTable. For now I just need to take input from a textfield after clicking on a JButton and have that text be placed in the JTable. LeftPanel listens, while RightPanel holds the table. Here is what I have so far:

why JLabel setText method is not setting up the text dynamically even though i am calling repaint() once i set the text? Code snippet is below

Trying to read integers from a text file and place them in a linked list in order. Program is compiling and running fine, just not the way I am intending when I am calling the methods. (Note: You have to enter the file location in the var x if you plan on running this.)

I have an assignment for college that involves placing randomly chosen words from a text file into a 2-d array. I have nearly completed ithowever I am having difficulty with a list of string type.What I have done so far is below,

when I try to run an instance of the program(using BlueJ) I get an error saying there is a null pointer exception at line 35 which is wordsForGrid. add (puzzleWords.get(pos));
I am thinking that this is related to the fact that at this line in the loadWordsFromFile method List <String>words=new ArrayList<String>(); I could not create an empty list of string type, i.e List<String>words = new List<String>();
Is this correct? Or am I looking in the wrong place. The textfile I am using contains over 6000 words on a separate line for each if that makes any difference.

I have 2 different bespoke table models.
When one is needed I simply add it to the table. In this case however whilst updating the model via table update in tableChanged method I have the impression of 2 identical models because the update happens twice (use of audio).
Is it not true that adding a new model cancels out the other ? I test for which model is attached to table and add the correct one depending on the data required.

I am working on a project in Eclipse, and it is my first time working with swing.I have the GUI setup the way that I like it, my hang-up is how to "update" the variables in the code as they are changed.The basics of the code is that I have several different String[] that will show up in a Jtable depending upon the input of the lists I have in the GUI.
in essence,
if list1==2 && list2==3
returnedarray = array1
I would like to have the returnedarray/Jtable be updated live as the lists are manipulated. So as soon as I change my list selections to...
list1==1 && list2==3
the code would shift to the proper array...
returnedarray = array2
If making the output update live isn't a possibility how would I code a button to update the input/output giving me the proper String[]?

I have this method that does several RegEx queries along with a lot of searching and replacing of text, and each regex search / replace takes some time and a total of maybe two minutes for all of them to finish up. So I added a ProgressBar to my JavaFX form and I added code after each step to simply use the ProgressBar.setProgress method by a factor of 10% each step ... so the code would resemble something like this:
do a regex query
if it finds things then do a replaceAll method on the string being searched
ProgressBar.setProgress(.1)
do another RegexQuery
If it finds stuff, so a replaceAll method
ProgressBar.setProgress(.2)
etc...
What is happening is that the progress bar will not actually paint any progress until AFTER the entire method is done executing. So from the users perspective, they click on the button and the program appears to freeze until its all done with that method at which point it instantly changes the progress bar to the last value I set ...
So the desired effect is simply not working, and I don't know why.
I tried changing (as in replacing the progress bar with a different control) the progress bar value settings with updating text in a text box on the form, and even that didn't display any of the text messages until AFTER the procedure was done executing at which point, all of the text logs appeared at one time instead of gradually adding text to the box in increments as the method executed.So it FEELS like any time a method is actually running, the JavaFX scene simply freezes until the method is done running. And it doesn't matter if I change the progress bars value directly or put it into its own method which gets called throughout the execution of the regex method ... either way, nothing actually happens on the form until the software is done executing all of the procedures called and then it comes back to a "resting" state...
I tried simplifying it by making a single method that does two things ... it updates the progress bar and then it waits for 1 second. Then it increments a variable then updates the progress bar, then waits a second, thinking to myself that 1 second pause would give it time to update the progress bars value but even that little method would not work.
Here is the test method I created:

Even that little piece of code will not actually show any changes in the progress bar until after its done looping at which point, the progress bar is filled to 100%, but I never see the first 9 changes in the progress bar within that for next loop.

I wrote a simple random spelling game for a class project, was never able to get the labels to update when they should. I have tried .updateUI, .paintImmediately followed by .revalidate and by .repaint. Nothing seems to be working.
What the game does is show a random word for about 10 seconds, disappear and they user is to spell that word, you have 3 tries then will start over. The "brains" of the game work just fine, it is the labels updating with new text when they should doesn't seem to be working. There is 4 classes but the below is the "Main" that has the problems. Also have a null exception problem with the timer.stop(); not sure why. I am still pretty new to java.

I have a textField in which I have text in. The text is enter customer name. I would like for this text to disappear whenever the user clicks on the textField to enter a customer name. I am using the automated swing gui builder in NetBeans. Is their some sort of feature for this under properties of the text field? If not then what are my other options?

The problem I'm having is that after opening a file that I saved, it does not display (if I disable text/html, it displays the entire html code, but when I re-enable it, nothing displays at all.) Am I loading it wrong, or am I setting the JTextPane's text incorrectly? Or is it, perhaps, another error that I didn't catch?

I am building a chat server/client and would like to have it so when a user sends a message, the message pops up in the main chat area beside their name, which I would like to be in bold font. Something like "Alan: Hello, how are you?". I can't find a way to do this with a text area or on a string. Do any swing components suitable for use as text areas support bolding of certain sections of the string that you will set to it?

I have some paired values stored as a hashmap in my model, for example sake, we'll say the 'key' is a Manager's ID and the 'value' is the name of their department, so 'betty123' could be a key to a value 'IT', and 'dave345' could be a key for the value 'Finance'. This hashmap is populated from a database. In my form, I have two "Select" dropdown fields, one for "Department" (with fields which match the values in the hashmap), and one for "Manager ID". I want to autopopulate the "Manager ID" field when the "Department" field is changed, based on the values in the Hashmap. I understand that I can't access dynamically elements of the hashmap in a script, so, for example, I can't do this:

var managerId = ${departmentHash[specificDepartment]};
$("#manager").val(managerId);
Because this code is dynamic based on the value of "department" at the time it's run, whereas the departmentHash object is generated when the page is loaded.
Is there some other way I can do this? Am I approaching it the wrong way? FWIW, I'm using Spring 4.1.1 and jQuery 1.8. I understand the conceptual block with code I wrote above, but I can't for the life of me think of an obvious solution although I'm sure this is a fairly commonplace problem in web development.

I am working on an project in which some data needs to be received through socket , do some processing on it and then store on the database. After that it will display on GUI. GUI should be updated automatically.
I am able to implement basic model in which data is storing in the database and displayed then on the GUI. I tried to implement MVC design patter as well.
Now i need to create a GUI which can be used by several users at a time means several jvm session for the GUI. I got struck at this point.
Some detail: i have one jvm session in which i am receiving , processing and storing the data. Now i want to fire an alert whenever any new entry is made into the database. Also each time new GUI is opened it should be registered with the model so that model send updated data alert to all this users.
When i am trying to open several GUI and trying to register with the Model then it is not increasing count of registered user. For each time it is showing 1 count only and whenever a new entry is made count is showing 0. Is it because both are running in different jvm sessions ?

I am trying to model a galaxy so that I have multiple stars certain distances away from each other and with different masses.
The accretion and than cylinder expansion happens with just about every galaxy.
I have a few questions.
First My computer only runs this if the number of particles is in the 500s. If that's the case How can I increase the probability that I will when I get to it have a red giant?
Second how can I modify this so that I have a timescale during which white dwarfs form from some stars and you see in the single stars either no supernova or nova just degeneration or a type 2 supernova and in binaries a type 1a supernova which is like a type 2 supernova of 1 star when it is a red giant, that giant becoming a white dwarf, the other star becoming a red giant, and then the white dwarf sucking gas from the giant until it explodes and ejects its companion?
Third how can I make this compacted and taking up less space in case I want to expand it to a few galaxies or even start with a big bang?
Basically what I am asking is how can I make this like a universe?
