Thermostat - Showcase Time Passing And Temperature Reaching Desired Setting

Feb 25, 2014

Here is the question:

-In your main, you should create a thermostat and thoroughly test it. Be sure to showcase time passing and the temperature reaching the desired setting. Also, showcase switching modes from heating to cooling.

My question is, once it reaches the desired temp, would the thermostat turn off, and then how do you show switching from heating and cooling.

This is what prints.

Thermostat is: true Thermostat is: false The desired temp: 70.0 The current temp: 69.0
Tue Feb 25 19:06:21 CST 2014
Tue Feb 25 20:06:21 CST 2014
Thermostat is: true Thermostat is: false The desired temp: 70.0 The current temp: 70.0

Here is my Class:

import java.util.Random;
import java.util.Date;
public class Thermostat {
private double currentTemp;
private double desiredTemp;
private double heatingThreshold;
private double coolingThreshold;

Setting Default Time Zone In Select Form

Mar 19, 2014

I have the task which should set the default time zone in the select form. For this aim I use SimpleTimeZone class and write simple test to check my code. It is below

Java Code:

@Test
public void defaultTimeZone() {
String def = SimpleTimeZone.getDefault().getID();
boolean has = false;
for (String id : SimpleTimeZone.getAvailableIDs()) {
System.out.println(id);

[Code] ....

It works perfectly on win 7 and ubuntu, but falls on win xp. I know that win xp is not supported more but I still have some customers who use it.

Search Algorithm Not Reaching End Condition

Apr 29, 2015

I am using what is known as a Depth First Search to solve a maze using my own Stack created class for an assignment. The reason I believe I am getting this error is because my program is never meeting the `finishSpot` condition. I have used the debugger and it looks like it is infinitely stuck at the Point before the `finishSpot`. My logic seems to be mostly correct except until the point where my maze solver tries to finish the maze, so i just need meeting that last condition that is causing my program to crash.

This is a sample maze:

*****
*s* *
* * *
* f*
*****

Here is my Main which uses my created Stack class.

//Creates a Stack and determines the start and endpoints.
public static void solveDFS( char [][] maze ){
LinkedStack stack = new LinkedStack();
Point currentSpot = findPoint( maze,'s' );
Point finishSpot = findPoint( maze, 'f' );
findPath( maze,currentSpot, finishSpot,stack );

[Code] ....

I made a mistake it says my program is crashing which it is not, but simply not meeting the condition.

DiceSum - Prompt User For A Desired Sum

Nov 16, 2014

Write a method named diceSum that prompts the user for a desired sum, then repeatedly rolls two six-sided dice until their sum is the desired sum. Here is the expected dialogue with the user:

Desired dice sum: 9
4 and 3 = 7
3 and 5 = 8
5 and 6 = 11
5 and 6 = 11
1 and 5 = 6
6 and 3 = 9

This is my code:

import java.util.Scanner;
import java.util.Random;
public class mod {
public static void main(String[] args) {
diceSum();

[Code] .....

it works for numbers 2 - 4, but any number from 5 - 12 just prints one output, which is not the correct desired sum.

JSF :: Can Place Content In Xhtml To Get Desired View

Apr 3, 2014

I have 2 JSF applications - Let me say A and B.

Application A uses JSP and Application B uses XHTML.

Now, I want Application B also get the same look and feel as Application A.

For this purpose, I have to recode the complete JSP page (of Application A) into XHTML (in Application B).

My question: Is there any better way, like reusing all the content of JSP in XHTML or something like that.

Could I replace the existing XHTML content with the JSP content with some minor modifications?

Binary Search Algorithm Won't Return Desired Value

This was my initial question: I am confused as to why this won't return the desired value. I keep running into an infinite loop or data is returned that I searched.

I still need to work on whether a user enters a search that doesn't exist......that is where I am stuck....

code has been updated......

int low = 0;
int high = subArray.length;
while (low < high) {
System.out.println("You have entered the while loop");
int mid = (low + high) / 2;

Converting Long Values To String - BufferedWriter Not Printing Desired Results

Apr 20, 2014

Currently, my program converts Long values to String. And when I test it out, it do print out the correct output. However, when the converted String value is passed over to be written in a text file, it seems that BufferedWriter isn't printing out the outcome that it's supposed to be.

saltVs = Long.toString(saltV);
System.out.print(saltVs); //will print out 79723172

Now the problem is here...It only prints out the last digit of the String value (instead of 79723172).

Here is my FileWriter/BufferedWriter part.

Why is that when I run my program using command prompt, it prints out the output that I wanted, but however when it comes to writing to the file, it doesn't come out right.

Program To Convert Temperature

Apr 24, 2014

Write a program that will provide temperature conversions between degrees Fahrenheit and degrees Celsius. Provide a method that will take an argument representing a temperature in Fahrenheit degrees and return the equivalent temperature in degrees Celsius. Also provide a method that will take an argument representing a temperature in degrees Celsius and return the equivalent temperature in degrees Fahrenheit. Conversion formulas are as follows: F = 9./5. * C + 32, C = 5./9. * ( F - 32 ), where F = Fahrenheit temperature and C = Celsius temperature. You must prompt for input using the Input class methods that are provided as a download for this unit.

I have two questions, 1st is why won't I get an output from my program when I run it? 2nd is how do I prompt for input using the Input class methods downloaded? The downloaded files are in .class form, and won't show any output when I run them.My code is:

import java.util.*;
public class temp
{
public static void main ( String [] args )
{
Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in);

High / Low / Average Temperature

Nov 19, 2014

I am trying to write a code that asks the user to enter a temperature for each day of the week and then it prints out the high temperature, the low temperature, and the average temperature. This is the code I have so far:

import java.util.*;
import java.text.DecimalFormat;
public class Lab10 {
public static void main(String[] args) {
java.util.Scanner input = new java.util.Scanner(System.in);
int high, low, i, sum;
double avg;
[Code] ....

There are a few issues that I am having.

1. I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it print the low temperature
2. I had it running perfectly until I changed one thing and now I get a compile error saying that the last 5 statements are unreachable. (lines 32-37)

Write a program that displays a table of the Celsius temperatures 0 through 20 and their Fahrenheit equivalents. The formula for converting a temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit is

where ¥ is the Fahrenheit temperature and C is the Celsius temperature. Your program must use a loop to display the table.

I need all of that to be combined into a single String.format and include the / and unicode symbols for degree fahrenheit. How String.format works so that I can figure out how to achieve that? I've tried a few websites but none of them explain it to the extent that I need to use it.

Military Time - Adding Minutes Displaying Correct Time

Feb 9, 2015

I am working on an assignment that I can't seem to figure out the final part to. The program takes in course data such as the time the class starts and how long it lasts. The time is in military time (0000 - 2400)

I need the output time to be the time the class started, plus the length of the class, and displayed in military time.

for example,

Start Time = 0930
Length = 50 minutes
Endtime = 1020

I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this. I have gotten a program that works for this time and minutes, and displays the correct 1020. But when I change the information to say

Start time: 0700
Length = 90 minutes

I get:

Endtime = 90

90 is technically correct, the way the formula is setup, but I need it to display 0900 not 90.

Here is the code that I have. Be easy, I'm still learning, and this is just the file I created to get the formula to work. Also, the verbose in here is just for my own debugging to make sure values should be what I'm expecting them to be.

public class calc
{
public static void main(String[] args) {
double hours, minutes, length;
double temp;
int time = 2400;
hours = time / 100;
System.out.println("Hours are: " + hours);

The error I get when I run the program.
