Time Conversion From One Specific Timezone To Another
May 2, 2014
I would like to know how to convert a time from one specific timezone to another specific timezone. The code does not convert the time correctly. But if I replace Date
date = sdfAlien.parse("16:00:00"); to Date date = new Date();
then conversion works but that's not what I want as my input will be supplied by users with time in HH:MM:SS and Java supported timezone.
In below case, we can say "16:00:00" and "Asia/Singapore" will be supplied by the user and I need to convert it to America/New_York time.
SimpleDateFormat sdfAlien = new SimpleDateFormat("HH:mm:ss");SimpleDateFormat sdfLocal = new SimpleDateFormat("HH:mm:ss");sdfAlien.setTimeZone(TimeZone.getTimeZone("Asia/Singapore"));
sdfLocal.setTimeZone(TimeZone.getTimeZone("America/New_York"));
try {Date date = sdfAlien.parse("16:00:00");String alienTime = sdfAlien.format(date);
String localTime = sdfLocal.format(date);System.out.println("Local Time:" + localTime + ", Alien Time:" + alienTime);
} catch (ParseException e) {e.printStackTrace();}

So, here is the question I have been working on: Write a java class named Time that prompts the user to input the elapsed time for an event in seconds. The program then outputs the elapsed time in hours, minutes, and seconds. (For example the elapsed time is 9630 seconds, and then the output is 2:40:30 ).Hint: an hour has 3600 seconds and a minute has 60 seconds. Use Scanner class for reading the input.
Here is my code:
import java.util.Scanner;
public class Time {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner scan= new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.println("Enter the elapsed time in seconds:");
int totalseconds= scan.nextInt();
[Code] .....
Now, I know I am supposed to use the remainder operator to figure out the time in minutes and seconds, but the hours has be a little confused. Right now this code compiles but gives me an exception.

I have a problem with timezone in my java application. My current/correct timezone is "Europe/Berlin" or CEST. When I type the following command as my user I get the correct output back:
$ date "+%Z %z"
CEST +0200
But when I run my java application it is using the timezone GMT+0100. I have executed the following Java code to verify:
import java.util.Date;
import java.util.TimeZone;
public class TimeTest {
public static void main(String args[]) {
long time = System.currentTimeMillis();
[Code] ....
When I run it the following output is generated:
Current time in milliseconds = 1435319087443 => Fri Jun 26 12:44:47 GMT+01:00 2015
Current time zone: GMT+01:00
Fri Jun 26 12:44:47 GMT+01:00 2015
So where does java get its timezone from? It's different from the default system timezone.
I am running on Redhat 6.6 with Java 1.7.0_79
java version "1.7.0_79"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_79-b15)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.79-b02, mixed mode)

In my application I need to print timezone abbreviation based on location. But fot Australia it is showing EST, even though my time zone data file version is tzdata2014i. I read that from version tzdata2014f, java supports AEST/AEDT but I don't see this in tzdata2014i.
How to get AEST/AEDT timezones.

I am trying to write a specific byte sequence to a specific memory location on a removable storage drive. Does Java allow me a way to do this? I know the dangers in accessing memory, but the memory location of the data that will be written will never change.

How do I move focus from a jcombobox to a specific component say a jtextarea.
My attempt below seems to be moving to a random component not the desired jtextarea.
takenByCombo.addKeyListener(new KeyAdapter() {
public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e) {
if (e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_TAB ) {
e.consume();
dayJTArea.requestFocus(); // focust not moving dayJTArea
}
}
});
I applied the above logic to move focus from a specific jtextarea to another jtextarea as seen below and it works as desired.
dayJTArea.addKeyListener(new KeyAdapter() {
public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e) {
if (e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_TAB ) {
e.consume();
monthJTArea.requestFocus();
}
}
});

So here we go with my problem:
- from the main class will arrive three variable (String name_used, int level_choose, int level_result)
I have a .txt file with this kind of formatting:
mario 1 1 0 1 0 1
carlo 0 0 0 1 1 0
...
Where I use 1 and 0 in the main for write if the level (you see that the numbers are always sixr? are egual to six level existing) BEFORE is done correct or wrong
- when in the main a user make a level a feedback coming back from the class level saying if the user made the count correctly or wrong. and i wanna replace the value (1 or 0) in the txt file with the new level result.
So i have all what i need as parameters i think.
name_used to look for the correct line in .txt file with .indexOf
level_choosed to go throught the correct index of that line
level_result (1 or 2) to be replaced with the existing one
Java Code:
public void salvaRisultati(String name_used, int level_choosed, int result_of_level) throws FileNotFoundException{
}
} mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

I have some problem to understand the way to make this:
In my main class a user can save his name in a txt file (and the system initially will add 6 value equals to 0) than he can choose between 6 level and make it.
example of .txt file data:
mario 0 0 0 0 0 0
carl 0 0 0 0 0 0
AT THIS MOMENT i just made other class and they work, is this new one that is hard for me. I'm trying to make a class that:
1- (first method called verificaRisultati) take name_used and level_choosed from the main and go to check in the .txt file if that level before was done right(1) or wrong(0)
and return something like "before you made this level properly" or "before you made this level incorrectly" AND THEN let the user start with the level.
2- (second method called salvaRisultati) at the end of the level i wanna pass the result (correct/incorrect) to another method of this class that will save the value (1 or 0) associated to the user in the right position.
This is the class that i'm writing:
Java Code:
import java.io.BufferedReader;
import java.io.FileNotFoundException;
import java.io.FileReader;
public class ResultUsers {
[Code] ....
I really need some hint and some code example because I'm stuck. How I can take exactly the line with the user name? How I can correctly split the line in an array and then read/modify the value for that level?

I am working on an assignment that I can't seem to figure out the final part to. The program takes in course data such as the time the class starts and how long it lasts. The time is in military time (0000 - 2400)
I need the output time to be the time the class started, plus the length of the class, and displayed in military time.
for example,
Start Time = 0930
Length = 50 minutes
Endtime = 1020
I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this. I have gotten a program that works for this time and minutes, and displays the correct 1020. But when I change the information to say
Start time: 0700
Length = 90 minutes
I get:
Endtime = 90
90 is technically correct, the way the formula is setup, but I need it to display 0900 not 90.
Here is the code that I have. Be easy, I'm still learning, and this is just the file I created to get the formula to work. Also, the verbose in here is just for my own debugging to make sure values should be what I'm expecting them to be.
public class calc
{
public static void main(String[] args) {
double hours, minutes, length;
double temp;
int time = 2400;
hours = time / 100;
System.out.println("Hours are: " + hours);
[Code] ....

I have two classes. time_runner is used for testing my code.
This is what I'm using to test my code:
class time_runner
{
public static void main(String str[]) throws IOException {
Time time1 = new Time(14, 56);
System.out.println("time1: " + time1);
System.out.println("convert time1 to standard time: " + time1.convert());
System.out.println("time1: " + time1);
System.out.print("increment time1 five times: ");
time1.increment();
[code]....
The two constructors are "Time()", which is the default constructor that sets the time to 1200, and "Time(int h, int m)" Which says If h is between 1 and 23 inclusive, set the hour to h. Otherwise, set the hour to 0. If m is between 0 and 59 inclusive, set the minutes to m. Otherwise, set the minutes to 0. Those are my two constructors that I pretty much have down. The three methods however I'm having trouble with. The "String toString()" Returns the time as a String of length 4. The "String convert()" Returns the time as a String converted from military time to standard time. The "void increment()" Advances the time by one minute.
public class Time {
private int hour;
private int minute;
public Time(int h, int m) {
if(h > 1 && h < 23)
hour = h;
[code]....

I managed to convert this final DatagramSocket serverSocketConn = new DatagramSocket (9000);
Now I am stuck here
Socket socketConn1 = serverSocketConn.accept();

Can I use this or I need to create a manual thread pooling for UDP ?

It's probably really obvious, like it usually is, but I can't figure out why I am getting these errors on multiple functions.
if (!client.lowMem) {
for (int l = this.onDemandFetcher.getVersionCount(2), i2 = 1; i2 < l; ++i2) {
if (this.onDemandFetcher.method569(i2)) {
this.onDemandFetcher.method563(1, 2, i2); //Error

The error I get on this line of code is 'Custom may not have been initialized', but no matter what I do, the error sticks.

final Custom Custom = Custom.cache[Custom.cacheIndex];

I need to understand the java Conversion.
I have a char[] containing ASCII characters that need to be converted into int value and double value.
The int value are always stored in 1 char size like 'j'. I extracted it succesffully by converting the char in a ascii bytearray and then used: Integer.parseInt(sb.toString().replace("0x", ""), 16);
How can I get the Value as double when i used the char[] with size 2 or 4 ?
Example : final char[] charValue = { 'u', ' ', '}','+' }; what is the associate Double value ?
Example : final char[] charValue = { 'T', ' ' }; what is the associate Double value ?
Example : final char[] charValue = { 'T', ' ' }; what is the associate int value ?
