Translation Game - Translate A Word Proposed To And Check If Input Response Is Correct

The project is to develop the game Translate the Word .... It is asking user to translate a word proposed to and check if the input response is correct. At the end of the game score will be calculated and displayed.
Game Play :
1 - Ask the user to specify , through the console , its name and the number of words to offer . It is up to you to handle exceptions (eg number of words greater than the number you provided )
2 - Recover user response ( the word translated ) and check whether to continue . (eg you want to continue (y / n)) after each proposal.
3 - compare the response of the user with that which is preset for the word in question .
4 - Show the score at the end ( or at the breakpoint ) .
5 - Save the file in a user name , the score , the number of questions and the start date and end of the game played .
Some notes to consider :
1 - The language (eg, English - French , English - Arabic , etc. . ): It is up to you to specify the language adopted in the game and inform the user of your choice.
2 - The word bank to offer : It is up to you to develop the appropriate means to get the words to propose to the user. That said , the words and their translations can be retrieved :
a. a TXT file
b . an XML file . ( Tutorials DOM and SAX )
c . CSV file ( OpenCSV Tutorial )
d. a database ( Tutorial Access)
e . through APIs (eg Wordnet and google translate etc . ) .
f . a combination of the previous options a, bc , d and / or e . (eg words stored in a txt file and answers retrieved from the api google translate)
g . etc. .
Examples of files and databases are attached to the project statement . You will need to add one or more external libraries to your project. Click here for details on adding external libraries to Netbeans .
3 - A user will be associated with the question score if he can translate the word correctly. The score for each question can be calculated based on the number of words / questions to be proposed .
Development : In this project you will need at least a class called Question to encapsulate the word and its translations and provide all necessary methods to manipulate the object type Question.
An interface called IParser to make extensible project. Any class that implements IParser is a parser file (XML , TXT , CSV , etc.). / Database. In your project there will be a single class that implements IParser and will be used to retrieve words and their translations.
Add the ability to store the questions and answers of the user on the hard disk. Make the class Serializable Question

I know people will want me to tidy it up, or do it "their" way, but honestly I just need method of getting the user to press h or s and have the program continue under it's own steam.

I've been working on a program where you can interact with the computer and play a guessing game of numbers between 1 and 100. It's mainly finished, I just need to add in my comments and stuff. My one problem about it that I cannot figure out is trying to get the results to give the correct int. At the end of the game, it's supposed to return the user information about how well they did like this:
Overall results: total games = int total guesses = int guesses/game = double best game = int
best game should give you the least amount of guesses you had during a particular round of the game. Here is what I have so far:

I need to force the user to enter an integer between 1 an 11. The code below works great.... It will work fine if the user inputs any letter or character and reprompt for a number. However once a number is entered(a number out of range-or it would just accept the number) and then the user enters a letter or character that isnt an int the program crashes with a input mismatch exception. I see WHY it is doing this but I cant figure out how to put my while loops to fix this! Here is the code. Someone suggested to Catch the exceptions, then prompt for retry if I encounter one.. however I havn't used the try - catch for exception handling before. Here is my code.

It is because I am setting decadeChoice to console.nextInt, so once it passes that if the user inputs a letter it will crash, just not sure how to make it work.
We were given the assignment to program a lotto game. in our game we should do follow the following steps below, and we are supposed to use atleast tree methods. the first one to receive the array of integers and an integer and check if the int was not entered before. the user should not repeat the same number. the other method will draw all numbers of a game (quantity of numbers to draw is based on the number parameter) and returns them in an array. the last method will display the result of the game. It receives a list of all lines played and a list of all numbers draw.
these are the steps to follow:
1. Ask the user how many lines (games) the user would like to play. Each line is made of five numbers between 1 and 45 (inclusive).
2. Ask the user to enter five numbers between 1 and 45 (inclusive) for each line. The user must NOT be allowed to enter a number more than once for each line.
3. When all the numbers for all the lines are entered, the program should display all lines and asks the user to confirm the game. If the user does NOT confirm the game, the program should start all over again.
4. Draw (generate) five numbers between 1 and 45 (inclusive). The numbers should be unique within the draw.
5. Draw (generate) one number (the bonus number) between 1 and 45 (inclusive). The number should be unique within the draw.
6. Display all the lines played and the result of each line.
7. Ask the user if the person would like to play again, if so the program should start the process all over again.
For class, we need to create a word game using classes and objects.
The game is played in rounds. The player is presented with a word that is missing letters. The player has to fill in the missing spaces with their letter guesses. The words presented are chosen with a random number generator which has been provided for us. At the end of the game, the player is shown their score.
In steps, I have to:
-Welcome the player. -Present the puzzle. -Allow the player to fill in the blanks. -Have the program check responses for correct/incorrect input. -End the game if they have three misses, or continue if they complete the puzzle.
Now, to start, I have a class for the number generator, a class to store the array of 25 words, and a class for the game itself.
I have a simple Word Program here called PuzzleGame.java. It works perfectly but I wanted to add some bells and whistles to it. So I want to be able that if the user selects the same letter more than once a message comes up letting the user know that "That letter has already been selected, try another letter."
I am certain that if would go in the 'else' of the 'if( )' that I am providing.

I have a project about programing a game in java . In this project you are required to design and implement a word guessing game. In the game, user selects one of the available dictionaries (animals, plants, technical, names, etc. ), and the program randomly chooses one word from that dictionary and displays it by scrambling the letters. The user tries to guess the word while a guess counter starts to count down (lets assume it starts from 5).
While counter counts towards zero, the program chooses -randomly- two misplaced letters and puts them into correct positions to reveal the word more and give the user a hint. However, giving a new hint reduces the total value of the question. Lets say if the initial value of the question is 500 when all letters are scrambled, it reduces to 400 after 1st incorrect guess and hint, then after every incorrect guess it reduces more. You can determine the value of the question by the length of the word. The other details of the game is as follows:
1.You must design at least three classes (for example game, scrambledword, and dictionary).
2.Dictionaries are written in text files. If you design a class for dictionary, it must be constructed by a user chosen category ((animals, plants, technical, names, etc). In the constructor, the dictionary text file corresponding to this category must be opened and read; and words in that dictionary must be read into memory (e.g. String array). You must submit your dictionaries with your code. Do not share dictionaries between friends.
3.The game will record your total points and name in a text file where a hall of fame which has different users and their total points in 10 questions. You can design and implement a class for this.
4.Bonus+5%: Put user interface modules textboxes, buttons, etc Or
a.Use class hierarchy
b.Use of thread and timers and reducing the question value by timer instead of guesses.
I created a simple Hangman game. It functions correctly, the only issue is when the file contains a phrase (2 or more words), spaces are not displayed when the program is run. For example, if the phrase was Java Programming Forums.
It would appear as _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.
I want there to be spaces in between the words. How could I fix this? What would I need to add to my code?

My program here asks for an unit to choose from (fl.oz, gal, oz, lb, in, ft, or mi), asks how much of it they have, and asks for the unit they wish to convert to (mL, l, g, kg, mm, cm, m, or km).
My program works, refusing to convert from silly conversions such as gal to cm, telling you to re-input if they enter anything other than fl.oz, gal, etc.
The only thing I cannot figure out is if the user inputs something like "foo" when the program prompts the user for how much of the unit they have. My goal is to have the program say something like "That is not a number! Please enter a numerical value."
My current dilemma right now is that if the user inputs something other than a number, it will catch the exception and print a line telling the user it's not a number, except, it does it infinitely (stuck in a loop). Here is my code:

The game runs fine, however I have to include how many times each letter that is guessed occurs within the word. For example, if the guess is e, the program should print out: The character e occurs in 3 positions. How would I go about doing this??

I have to ask how many children's tickets you want to order. When I apply the code below, it just accepts whatever I input, including letters. I imagine it is to do with setting childrensTickets = 0? If I input a letter using the below it accepts - shouldn't it print the error given the input is not >=0?

Okay I thought I had this working properly so that when the user entered anything other than 1 or 2 they would keep getting an error invalid input, however, that only works when the user enters an integer. If the user enters anything other than a number, the program crashes. How does one prevent this from happening?

I basically just want the user typed in word to be checked against a keyword in a proeprties file and if it exists, pull the key and the value back into a panel ....
I am trying to create a program that first asks the user for an input in the form: condition = value, where condition is a word from the set {limit, deficient, abundant, perfect, prime}, and value is a positive integer. Then it verifies the input. If the input is invalid it prints a message indicating that and terminates. If the input is valid it prints a table with the number of abundant, deficient, perfect and prime numbers less than or equal to N, where N = 1, 2, 3, ..., limit.
My problem is with the input validation. i want it to read the value as a string and verify if it's integer.

Write a program that prompts the user for an input number and checks to see if that input number is greater than zero. If the input number is greater than 0, the program does a multiplication of all the numbers up to the input number starting with the input number. I'm having an issue, I have a scanner (Scan.nextLine();) that scans the console for input to fetch the string "word". Then I want to fetch a character using Scan.findInLine(word).charAt(number);. The problem is that the console requires me to write 2 lines in order for the program to move on. I only want the program to scan for a word, and then move on with what it has instead of requiring 2 inputs.
I have a project requiring me to build a program having a user input 3 words, sort them alphabetically and output the middle word. I have done some searching and seem to only come back with results for sorting 2 words. I so far have code to get the user input but I am completely lost as to how to sort them alphabetically.
