Nov 23, 2014
I had to make a program that allowed the user to enter the number of students and the students names and grades and then print out the name with the grade in descending order. right now I only have it where it prints the names out in descending order. how do I get it the print out with the grade?
Here is my code
import java.util.*;
public class Grades {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.print("Enter the number of students: ");
int numofstudents = input.nextInt();

I just have not got the chance to spend much time on it lately I know a bit but I'm not an expert or even intermediate with Java so I'm trying to make a program where the teacher enters the grade of each student and its stored in a variable the only problem is if I use a for loop the variable in which the result will be stired will be overwrite by the last repetition of the loop,I think the idea would be a nested loop but how I would go about using it in this situation,
here is my java code.
import java.util.Scanner;
class maths{
public static void main(String[] args)

Alright so I wrote a switch statement that decides what range to print based on the letter grade input.
import java.util.Scanner;
public class SwitchPractice
{
public static void main(String [] args)
{
Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);
[code]...
It works fine, but once it the user enters a letter grade and then displays the value, it does not prompt the user for another letter grade so that it can perform the output again. Also if I wanted to display an error message to the user if they enter an invalid letter grade how would I do that. I tried using a while loop and if statement in the switch statement but that didn't work.

I'm trying to add a tooltip on a cell of a TableView in order to show some information to the user.
This is the code:
colonnaColore.setCellFactory(param -> {
TableCell<Appuntamento, Template> cell = new TableCell<Appuntamento, Template>() {
@Override
protected void updateItem(Template item, boolean empty) {
// calling super here is very important - don't
[Code] ....
In few words: there is a cell factory on the cell to show a colored box, then I added a tooltip to the cell. I need informations that are in the item added to the TableView that has type "Appuntamento". So I try to get my element with these code (that in others part of my code works); but here I get a Null Pointer Exception on cell.getTableView() and also on cell.getTableRow().
I'm probably using these methods in a way that was not expected.

-prompting user for an interger n
-creating an array of n string
-repeatedly read character string from user input and store them in the array until end of array is reached or user input -quit(quit should not saved in array)
-print the string from array in reverse order, from last enter to first enter.
-assume user always supplie correct input
This is what I've done so far but how to get it working.

Write a Java program that asks the user to store 10 numbers in an array. You should then print the array in the order entered and then print in reverse order. However, instead of putting all the information in the main, you should use a class called PrintIt. The PrintIt class should have an instance variable that is an array to hold the numbers. You should have a method that will print the array in the order entered. You will also need a method to print in reverse oder. Then create a tester class that asks the user to enter 10 numbers and puts them in an array.
So far I've got this.
public class printIt {
int i;
int [] numArr = new int [10];
public printIt () {
i = -1;
[Code] .....
Output:
Enter a number:
8
34
Forward:
8
34
Reverse:
34
8
end
what i want as an number is being able to print out 10 numbers but this only lets me do two numbers. Why is that so?

I have the following double linked list and I'm supposed to order it descending (reverse) using the printInReverse() method; since the list orders itself ascending when the numbers are added, how could I order it descending in this method? Here's the code without implementing descending/reversing methods:
package test;
import java.util.Scanner;
public class MyList {
private Scanner userInput;
private Integer selectedOption;
private MyListElement firstElement = null;
private boolean exitRequested = false;
[Code] ....
I tried to declare a previousElement variable but I didn't figure out how I'd do that.

I figured out how to create the file and write to it, but when the user enters a second set of information, the first is overwritten. How can I make the file be added to instead of overwritten? The following is my code:

I am new to using arrays. I need to collect user input for book title, author, and # of pages... store that in an array... and then I'm going to need to be able to sort that array. The dialog boxes come up prompting the user for 5 sets of title, author, and # of pages, but when I try to display that information, it isn't working. I am assuming this means that it's not storing the information correctly... so I want to get this corrected before I even try to sort??
import javax.swing.*;
import java.util.*;
class LibraryBookSort
{
public static void main(String[] args)
{
LibraryBook[] someBooks = new LibraryBook[5];

I am writing a program that grab user input number which represent beats per minute separated by commas. It then parses the numbers and reorders them from smallest to largest and then outputs the average, medium, maximum and minimum number all in separate lines. I am having trouble getting the array to sort the input from smallest to largest. It is currently only working for 3 numbers inputted. Anything more will not reorder it.

This program contains a superclass and a subclass that will gather the following information from the user:
name, address, phone number, and customer number.
Everything works fine except that I have to create a boolean method in this program that is required to determine based on user input whether they want to be added to a mailing list.
I cannot get this method to work with main, each time it is called it will always return the value but main will constantly read the last statement (else, where it will read "not wanting to be added to the mailing list).
The only way I can get this part of the program to work is by adding an equals method in main that ignores the case, but I am required to write a boolean method so this is not allowed.
Superclass:
public class Person
{
private String name;
private String address;
private String phoneNum;
public Person(String pName, String add, String number)
{
name = pName;
address = add;
[Code] ...

I have to do a small program about parking. In the 2-d array (parking lot), contains different kinds of cars, the user have to :
1)enter which car he wanna move,
2)what direction (w,a,s,d) and after that,
3) how many moves( not out of bound) he wants to make, and finally
4) we print out the new parking lot for his next move
And i am stuck at how to move the car to corresponding position and then prompt user for the next move?
For example:
I want to move A to the right by 1 (d)
擷取.PNG
print result:
擷取1.PNG
How do I do that? The code that i have right now
public class CarParkGame {
public static void main( String [] args) {
String carPark[][] = new String [6][6] ;
carPark[0] = new String[] {"A","A","A","0","0","0"};
carPark[1] = new String[] {"b","0","0","0","0","c"};
carPark[2] = new String[] {"b","X","X","0","0","c","<exit>"};

So I'm learning java from a website and I was tasked with creating a simple program which allows the user to enter a series of integers, then finally when they decide to input a non-integer the program will print the maximum and minimum values of the integers they entered. So for example if they entered 5, 4, 3 and 2 then enter a non-integer the program would output 5 (maximum value), then 2 on a new line (minimum value).
Here is my code:
import java.util.Scanner;
public class MaxMinPrinter {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in);
int max = Integer.MIN_VALUE;
int min = Integer.MAX_VALUE;
[Code] ....
And this is what the output looks like:
Actual output
-------------------------------------------
Enter an integer: 5
- 10
-
- Enter an integer: -4
- 8
- -6
-
- Enter an integer: 11
- -1
-
- Enter an integer: q
- -1
- -6
When it's supposed to look like this:
Expected output
-------------------------------------------
Enter an integer: 5
Enter an integer: 10
Enter an integer: -4
Enter an integer: 8
Enter an integer: -6
Enter an integer: 11
Enter an integer: -1
Enter an integer: q
11
-6

I want to write a java program which displays to get the GPA of a student as a keyboard input. Then display the class of the degree according to the following criteria using a switch-case statement (if-else statements cannot be used). If the user insert an invalid gpa you should display a message Invalid GPA.
gpa ≥ 3.50 First Class Hons
3.49 ≥ gpa ≥ 3.00 Upper Second Class Hons
2.99 ≥ gpa ≥ 2.50 Lower Second Class Hons
2.49 ≥ gpa ≥ 2.00 Pass
2.00 ≥ gpa Fail

import java.io.*;
public class q7
{
public static void main(String[] args)
{
InputStreamReader ISR=new InputStreamReader(System.in);
BufferedReader BR=new BufferedReader(ISR);
[code]...
.But when I use Command console to run this it says: 1111.jpg. I also wanna know is there another way to do this with switch- case statements.
