When Try To Run Program / It Always Throws A FileNotFoundException

Jun 29, 2014

When I try to run the programm, it always throws a FileNotFoundException, algthough the file exists in the same folder as the project. I tested it with the canRead() method and it returned false, but I can't figure out why it can't read from the file

package sumOfFloats;

Redefine FileNotFoundException By Creating A New Class Which Extends It

Mar 25, 2015

I am trying to redefine the FileNotFoundException by creating a new class which extends it, but I am having difficulty. For my class practice, if no file is selected or passed in, an UnknownFileException should occur.My code is the following:

Java Code:

import java.io.FileNotFoundException;
public class UnknownFileException extends FileNotFoundException {
public UnknownFileException() {
super("We couldn't tell what file this is");
}
public UnknownFileException(String message) {
super(message);

[code]....

But I get a compile error stating an unreported FileNotFoundException.

FileNotFoundException With Java Scanner With Absolute File Path

Apr 8, 2014

I'm a Java beginner and I've been trying to scan a file using the Java Scanner. I've tried searching online for this error and I only find people's questions who have entered an incorrect relative path. I'm entering in an absolute path and I'm using Eclipse Standard Edition on a 2013 MacBook Pro with Mavericks 10.9.2.

Anyway, the error message I'm receiving on Eclipse is: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Error: Unresolved compilation problem: Unhandled exception type FileNotFoundException

at App.main(App.java:12)
public class App {
public static void main(String[] args){
String fileName = "/Users/Student/Documents/index.html";

[code]...

Why it cannot find this file. I've checked the absolute file path of index.html on my Mac and I've copied and pasted it into my code.

Calling A Method That Throws Exception?

Aug 15, 2014

I have a file greenGrow.txt, and every three lines of the file has a last name, first name, and yard size. Every time a Customer object is created, I need to read the file 3 lines and assign the object a last name, first name, and yard size.

Snippet of my code:

import java.io.*;
import java.util.*;
public class Customer {
private String lastName;
private String firstName;
private int yardSize;

[Code] .....

My issue is that I cannot call readFile() from the constructor, and I'm assuming that's because I throw Exception on readFile(). Is this a simple fix, or am I looking at it the wrong way?

Creating Class That Throws Errors

Feb 11, 2015

I created a class Person:

Java Code:

public class Person {
protected static int MAX_AGE = 150;
protected static int MIN_AGE = 0;
private static final String VALID_WORD_REGEXP = "[a-zA-Z]{3,30}";
private String firstName;
private String lastName;

[Code] ....

I'm trying to learn right way how to throw exceptions. I

Besides that I have couple questions:

I can't quite understand throws statement. I'm thinking throws statement is for passing exceptions one level higher(with are not cought in this caller function). So that would mean I need to put throws in this function only:

Java Code: Person(String firstName, String lastName, int age) mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

Am I right or wrong and is there any other use for it? If so that would mean when

Java Code: Person person = new Person(.....) mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

must be in try tags. How can I avoid it?

Java-8 :: Lambda Expression Throws IllegalAccessError

Oct 16, 2014

I have the following structure and want to use lambda expressions with it, but an exception occurs:

class SuperClass // (package private)
public class SubClass extends SuperClass // in same package as SuperClass

I have a functional interface (a listener), which has one argument of type SubClass.

public interface MyListener() {
    void myMethod(SubClass e);
}

When I use the old-school Java 7 style:

addListener(new MyListener() {
     @Override
     public void myMethod(SubClass e) {
         System.out.println(e);
     }
});

Everything works fine! If I use Java 8 lambda expression instead:

addListener(e -> {
    System.out.println(e);
});

It will throw an exception:

java.lang.IllegalAccessError: tried to access class SuperClass

Java Array Throws Exception For Multiple Values

Jan 3, 2014

int nRows = 0;
        for (EITest testCurr : testList) {
            testCaseListArray[nRows] = new Object[3];
            String testName = testCurr.getTestName();
            LOG.info("testName=" + testName);
            testCaseListArray[nRows][0] = testName;

[Code] ....

This throws null pointer exception because of array initialization error. I tried this:

int nRows=0;
        for(EITest testCurr: testList){
            testCaseListArray[nRows] = new Object[3];
            String testName = testCurr.getTestName();
            LOG.info("testName=" + testName);
            testCaseListArray[nRows][0] = testName;

[Code] ....

But this is not complete solution.

2) I want to make this as a collection object such as array list instead of Array declaration.

What Handling Exception And Declaring Same Exception In Throws Clause Achieve

Jan 24, 2014

I was giving a quick skim to some tutorials on the internet where I have found the exception that is handled is also declared in the throws clause of the method wrapping the try-catch block. For a code representation consider the following:

public void methodName() throws IOException {
try {
...
} catch (IOException ex) {
.... TODO handle exception
}

}

What I am trying to accomplish is when one of the previous GUI's is closed that it doesn't terminate the entire program. There is a lot of classes in the entire project so I'd prefer not to paste all the code here, but if it is necessary I will do so.

How To Restart Math In The Program Without Getting Out Of Program

Feb 15, 2014

I'm working in a GUI program, but I'm not going to put the code because there is a lot of code and files. Instead, I will try to put it an example.

Let say:

I'm working in a GUI program that ask form the user to enter two number's. When the user press at the calculate button. It will show up the output. However, the program won't exit unless the user press at red (X).

int x = user_Input1;
int y = user_Input2;
int total = x + y; //
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, total);

I know that there will be a (total) now, so my question is here how can I reset all the calculation and have a new total that will show up when the user enter two number's again.

How To Add Images To Program

Dec 14, 2014

I just finished a tutorial on youtube that covers the basic java, and now i want to try and make a game / program thing, only problem is that i have never worked with graphics before (i have tried to make ovals, rectangles, and other things with the paint method tho )

I know how to make a jframe and a jpanel, and i feel like i can make a simple "game" (not a complicated one, just a simple one with a guy walking around on the screen) in fact i have already make a such game, where you are a oval walking around on the screen, so thats not really my problem.

My problem is that i want to draw an image on the screen that can walk around instead of the oval, but how to do that. I have made a new project and set up the jframe and jpanel, and my code looks like this:

(main)

import javax.swing.JFrame;
 public class main_class {
public static void main(String[] args){
 JFrame f = new JFrame();
f.setTitle("title");
f.setVisible(true);
f.setSize(800,600);

[code]...

but once again, i get a blank jframe with no image and no "test" string . How i can display images on the screen?

Program That Estimates Value Of π

Oct 15, 2014

In this exercise you will write a program that estimates the value of π. Pretend that we are looking at a dartboard in the picture above. If the square is 2units wide and 2 units high, the radius of the circle within the square is 1 unit. Then the area of the circle is π*r2 = π*12 = π. The area of the square will be 2*2 = 4.

The estimation of π will work by randomly "throwing darts" at the dartboard. We will assume that every dart will hit the board but the location of that strike will be random so some darts will land inside the circle and some will land outside the circle. The calculation of π is then the ratio of the number of darts that land inside the circle to the total number of darts, multiplied by 4. Note that as we increase the number of darts used in the simulation, the accuracy improves.

Follow the steps to complete the program:

1.Declare variables that represent x, y coordinates of a dart, the distance of the dart from the origin, the number of darts that land inside the circle, and the total number of darts.

2.Read in the total number of darts (N) from the user and create an instance of the Random class.

3.Create a loop that runs N times. Inside the loop, you will use the nextFloat() method of the Random class to create x, y coordinates randomly, and then compute the distance of the dart from the origin. Determine whether the dart lands inside or outside of the circle.

4.Compute π using the estimation algorithm.

5.Run the program with increasing numbers from 100 to 100,000,000 and observe the accuracy of π.

Tax Calculation Program

use arrays to store taxpayer information. Use methods for tasks that will be repeated.

-Ask the user how many taxpayers he would like to calculate taxes for.
-Ask the user to enter each taxpayer's first name, last name gross income, and number of children.
-Each taxpayer's tax due is computed as follows
-The taxpayer's dependency exemption is determined by multiplying $3,000 times the number of children.
-The taxpayer's net income is determined by taking the taxpayer's gross income and subtracting the taxpayer's dependency exemption.
-If the taxpayer's net income is between 0 and 50,000, the tax due is 15% of net income.
-If the taxpayer's net income is greater than 50,000, the tax due is
-15% of the first 50,000 of net income PLUS
-25% of any income over 50,000
-The tax due can never be less than 0.
-If the net income is a negative number, the tax due is 0

TAXPAYER INFORMATION: output a message in one dialog box which lists the following info for every taxpayer: first name, last name, gross income, number of children, tax due.
AVERAGE TAX: output a message in a dialog box which states the average of the taxes due.
