Why Thread Loop Is Not Finishing Without Mentioning Printing

Jan 13, 2015

I was trying to read an article from here : [URL] ..... I was doing the same example but loop is not ending. Thread is struck at CalculateThreadDemo run method. If i mentioned System.out.println then it got terminated else infinite loop continues. I don't understand this.

code:

BlockedThreadDemo
public class BlockedThreadDemo extends Thread {
private boolean isFinished = false;
BlockedThreadDemo(String name) {
super(name);

[Code] ....

Without commenting the statement:

597222
597223
597224
597225
isFinished: true
main thread is dead
597226
CalculateThread is finished.

i: = 49i: = 13i: = 10
BlockedThreadDemo is finished.

Finishing / Creating Checkerboard Program

Sep 9, 2014

I have my CheckerboardViewer done, my component is what I need finishing. My final product needs to be a checkerboard with alternating red and grey squares but the background is already grey. My code for the Viewer is:

import javax.swing.JFrame;
public class CheckerBoardViewer
{
public static void main(String[] args)
{
JFrame frame = new JFrame();
frame.setSize(300, 400);
frame.setTitle("CheckerBoardViewer");
frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
CheckerBoardComponent component = new CheckerBoardComponent();
frame.add(component);
frame.setVisible(true);
}
}

And this is what I have of the Component:

import javax.swing.JComponent;
import java.awt.Color;
import java.awt.Graphics;
import java.awt.Graphics2D;
import java.awt.Rectangle;

[code]....

I've created one square so far, but I'm having trouble creating the code for at least the second square.

Servlets :: What Is The Disadvantage Of Not Mentioning Location In MultipartConfig

Sep 10, 2014

I am trying to upload very big files greater than 1gb. I am using MultipartConfig and HttpServletRequest.getPart(String) from servlet api. I deployed in my server and tried uploading a file and its working like a charm.

Then I went on reading about MultipartConfig in [URL] ...... I understood that when large files are uploaded it writes parts of the file to a temporary location when the threshold is reached. And later on we have to delete the temporary files using part.delete().

What if I don't want to mention the temporary location? Will something bad happen to my application while uploading big files? I don't want to mention a temporary location becasue we cant gurantee about the production environment.

JOptionPane Printing From A For Loop?

Feb 13, 2015

I am writing a program that has to do with ciphers and cipher shifts. The program itself works fine, but I am having trouble printing out the answers to JOptionPane. I know the basics of JOptionPane, but my problem is this:

Majority of my program takes place in a for loop, and resolves the cipher (it is a basic cipher program) 1 digit at a time. So, only the last DIGIT (I don't know how to convert a digit to a CHAR in JOptionPane) is printed to JOptionPane. Here is my code:

public static void main(String[] args) {
String cipher = JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null,
"Please enter a sentence or word that you wish to encode or decode. This program uses " + " a basic cipher shift.");
int answer = 0;
String upperCase = cipher.toUpperCase();
char[] cipherArray = cipher.toCharArray();

Printing Each Value In Multidimensional Array Using For Loop

Dec 5, 2014

I want to print each value in the multi-dimensional array using a for loop but there is a problem.

Here is the script:

Java Code:

public class LearningJava
{
public static void main(String[] args) {
int[][] Grid = {
{12, 24, 36, 48, 60},
{1, 3, 5},
[Code] ....

Printing i: 0, x: 12
Printing i: 0, x: 24

Exception in thread "main" Printing i: 0, x: 36

Printing i: 0, x: 48
Printing i: 0, x: 60

java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 5
at LearningJava.main(LearningJava.java:11)

It's suppose to get the length of each array and print all the values in that array and then move to the next one.

I tried adding .length

Java Code: for(int x = 0; x < Grid[i][x].length; x++) mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

but then it doesn't work at all.

Printing Pattern Using Nested Loop

Jan 19, 2015

I built a java code to print the following pattern using nested loop:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 6 5 4 3 2 1
1 2 3 4 5 6 5 4 3 2 1
1 2 3 4 5 4 3 2 1
1 2 3 4 3 2 1
1 2 3 2 1
1 2 1
1

And here is my code

public static void main(String[] args) {
for(int i=1; i<=8;i++)
{
for(int k=1;k<=i;k++)
{
System.out.print(" ");

[Code] .....

which gives the partially true output:

123456781
123456721
123456321
123454321
123454321
123654321
127654321
187654321

I couldn't figure out how to place the spaces.I have made some changes on the code, but it didn't work.

Loop That Stops Printing A File And Adding To Stack

May 6, 2015

I'm supposed to add characters to a stack and pop them once the adjacent delimiter is read in from a text file. Moreover, program is supposed to print out the incoming text from the file, but stop when the applicable delimiter is not on top of the stack. As in, a '[' doesn't have a ']'.

I've got the program so it can pop and add to the stack correctly, and stops adding at the correct time, but I cant seem to get it to stop printing. I know a switch statement method in another class seems obvious, but I was trying to practice nested loops.

This is the main program:

import java.io.*;
import java.util.Scanner;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.util.Stack;
public class DelimiterChecker {
public static void main(String [] args) throws IOException {

[Code] ......

Moreover, the file I'm reading for is simply:

{
System.out.println(1)
System.out.println(2)
System.out.println(6 <-------------missing delimiter
System.out.println(7)
}

Swing/AWT/SWT :: What Is Event-dispatching Thread For GUIs And Why Use It Over Main Thread

Sep 20, 2014

I'm currently learning about Swing but I can't get my head round this piece of the code. Here is a simplified gui (not interested in the gui part but the execution)

public class SwingDemo implements ActionListener {
SwingDemo(){
JFrame jfrm = new JFrame("Simple gui pro");
//rest of code
public static void main(String[] args) {
new SwingDemo();
}

I get the above, create a new instance of SwingDemo in the main thread which starts up the gui through the constructor. However, then the tutorial says that I should avoid doing the above but do this instead:

public class SwingDemo implements ActionListener {
SwingDemo(){
JFrame jfrm = new JFrame("Simple gui pro");
//rest of code
public static void main(String[] args) {
SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { //why do this instead?
public void run(){
new SwingDemo();
}
});
}
}

Reading, it talks about an event-dispatching thread which has completely lost me... Why not just instantiate the object directly instead of creating another thread?

int[] array=new int[7]
array[0]=2;
array[1]=3;
array[2]=4;

now what I want to do is print these three numbers in a loop so that my array[3]=2;array[4]=3;array[5]=4 ...... till the last one. Also the array could be any size and not just 7.

When Type Quit To Close Outer Loop / It Still Runs Inner Loop

Nov 2, 2014

I have everything else working. My problem is that when i type "quit" to close the outer loop. It still runs the inner loop. The National Bank manager wants you to code a program that reads each clients charges to their Credit Card account and outputs the average charge per client and the overall average for the total number of clients in the Bank.

Hint: The OUTER LOOP in your program should allow the user the name of the client and end the program when the name entered is QUIT.In addition to the outer loop, you need AN INNER LOOP that will allow the user to input the clients charge to his/her account by entering one charge at a time and end inputting the charges whenever she/he enters -1 for a value. This INNER LOOP will performed the Add for all the charges entered for a client and count the number of charges entered.

After INNER LOOP ends, the program calculates an average for this student. The average is calculated by dividing the Total into the number of charges entered. The program prints the average charge for that client, adds the Total to a GrandTotal, assigns zero to the Total and counter variables before it loops back to get the grade for another client.Use DecimalFormat or NumberFormat to format the numeric output to dollar amounts.

The output of the program should something like this:

John Smith average $850.00
Maria Gonzalez average $90.67
Terry Lucas average $959.00
Mickey Mouse course average $6,050.89
National Bank client average $1,987.67

Code:

public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);
String name = "";
int charge = 0;
int count = -1;
int total = 1;
int grandtotal = 0;
int average = 0;

Add KeyListener To Thread

Feb 13, 2014

I want to try and run a thread that starts running on start and quits after pressing a key.I cant seem to detect keypresses. ci cant seem to add code: Post denied. New posts are limited by number of URLs it may contain and checked if it doesn't contain forbidden words.

its just a code snippit without links or anything..this is a small part... but how do i add a keyListener in here that listends to a random key?The class implements KeyListener and the overrided method "keyPressed" sets the isRunning boolean to false... but the keyPressed method is never executed.

public static void main(String[] args) {
Thread thread = new Thread() {
public void run() {
while(isRunning){
System.out.println("running");
try {
sleep(1000);
} catch (InterruptedException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e.printStackTrace();
}
}

Looping Thread Out Of Sync

Dec 12, 2014

I have a program ive been working on and it works, but the flags in the runnables seem to shift the output down 1. for instance i commented playa3. start(); to see whats going on, if i just run playa1 i got no issues, as soon as i enable playa2, i get this output:

Game continues...
Dealer places King and Queen on the table.

Game continues...
Dealer places Queen and Ace on the table.
Player one with 'Ace' places his card on the table.
Player one with 'Ace' wins the current deal.
King Queen

Game continues...
Dealer places Queen and King on the table.
Player two with 'King' places his card on the table.
Player two with 'King' wins the current deal.
Queen Ace

the second time the dealer deals, player one places his cards on the table when he was supposed to do that for the first deal which he didnt. the last line there, (king queen) is just a print statement that is referring to the dealers hand that, that iteration is responding too. below is my code, i

public static int i, count, dealerFirstCard, dealerSecondCard, player1, player2, player3;

Accessing Keylistener From Thread

Mar 23, 2014

I start my thread, it's for a real basic game I'm learning. Everything was working fine, until I got to recognizing keys. It runs, and I can close using the mouse on the close command, but the keys aren't being generated from the keyboard. I copied it to a working sample, and here are the two files.

package testkeys;
import java.awt.Canvas;
import java.awt.Dimension;
import java.awt.image.BufferedImage;
import java.awt.image.DataBufferInt;
import javax.swing.JFrame;

[Code] ....

The idea was to set the return value to true if any key is pressed, thus quitting, for this short sample program. Problem, it never recognizes any keys pressed on the keyboard. New to java and threading.
