Attempting To Make CoalescedHashMap With Internal Chaining
Apr 3, 2014
I am attempting to make a CoalescedHashMap<K, V> with internal chaining. It isn't a hard concept, but it needs to extend AbstractSet and implement Map<K, V>.
Map requires a remove method that returns a V(value). AbstractSet extends Collection, which requires a remove method that returns a boolean value. It gives a syntax error either way it is done. This is a standard homework assignment for a junior level class, so there must be some way to deal with this. It is annoying as we do not need to implement the remove method, it just throws and exception.

In Windows and Mac both, the following code works wonders:
Java Code: // openURL called from another method
openURL("http://www.google.com");
private void openURL(String URL)
{
[Code].....
The only OS I can get this to work on is Kubuntu or even Ubuntu for that matter.

I need to implement a separate-chaining hash table from scratch and I don't need to know the code or anything I would just like an explanation of how I would go about doing the algorithm for this perhaps pseudocode and then I can figure out the rest.

I have recently taken up some java after a period of time learning batch scripting. the issue I have run into is that my build compiled and ran just
fine when invoking from within the netbeans IDE but after that I 'cleaned and built' the jar and the IDE stored it in the directory that I specified while installing.
I went to that folder, double clicked on my gui and go nothing. So then I opened a command prompt did, "java -jar myapp.jar" and got the following of which has me completely lost:

I don't understand, why when in the constructor of the superclass A the method init() is called (line 4), the overridden version of the subclass is invoked (line 26) and not the superclass version (line 7):
class A {
public A () {
init();
}
public void init() {
System.out.println("test");
[Code] ....
I would have guessed that above code prints
test
1
But instead you get a NPE (because when the constructor of B is invoked
public static void main(String[] args) {
new B();
}
Then there is first the implicit call to super:
public B() {
s = " ";
init();
}
Which is the constructor of A:
public A () {
init();
}
But here now this init() method is not the version of A ( public void init() {
System.out.println("test");
}) but the overriden version of the subclass (B): public void init() {
System.out.println(s+=s.length());
}...
Which throws an NPE of course, because the initialization of s has not occured yet (it happens only after the implicit call to super() has finished (see public B() {
s = " ";
init();
}))

When does an internal cast actually happen? I am aware that compound assignment operator do an internal cast. Does it happen in Assignment 1?Assignment 2?Assignment 3?Assignment 4?
Java Code:
public class Parser{
public static void main( String[] args){
byte b=1;
short s=1;
int i=1;
s=b;//Assignment 1
s<<=b;//Assignment 2
b<<=s;//Assignment 3
s +=i;//Assignment 4
}
} mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

I've installed the Java JDK onto my Windows 8 laptop and the first thing I need to do is run the compiler from the Command Prompt. The first prompt I enter is C:java -version. This worked fine, however when I try to enter the next prompt C:javac -version, I am getting the following screen and messages:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.3.9600]
(c) 2013 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:UsersMary>java -version
java version "1.8.0_20"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_20-b26)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.20-b23, mixed mode)
C:UsersMary>javac -version
'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
I have entered the path into the environment variables area within my control panel. Not too sure why the first prompt works, but the second doesn't...

I'm deploying Java 8 update 40 to my users and want to know if there's a way to manage sites that prompt the user with warnings about untrusted and unsigned applets?
i'm using the exception.sites file to manage applicable prompts/warnings for our internal sites, but doesn't look like the exception list works for untrusted and unsigned.
is there a way to manage these from an all users level, particularly with a deployment (ie, SCCM)?

I have a design scenario here which is quite interesting and complex. I have a Java class structure as follows,
class A
{
class B;
innerClass B
{
List<class C> listofC;
innerClass C
{
String attribute1;
String attribute2; // Their getter setters
}
}
}
So I have this as an API. Now my challenge is that I need to add one more property to inner class C. i.e attribute3 in innerClass C. I need to do this without disturbing the code in class A by extending these classes or writing a new wrapper, so I can use class C with new properties .
I hope this should be achievable through any design pattern either at runtime or design time.

We are making a tic tac toe game for my CS120 class and I am having trouble figuring out how to make our X's and O's. Is there a way to make shapes besides making two lines for an X and an oval with a white smaller oval inside to make an O? We have only learned the basics so far in class (i.e. events, inheritance, client-supplier, etc.)
These are our instructions:
Write a controller that controls the game. There is one human player (the X player) and the computer player (the O player). The name of the class must be TicTacToeController. In a sense, the controller is the game since the controller will 1) create a TicTacToeModel 2) create a TicTacToeView and 3) create a TicTacToeButton (you must write this class following the design pattern covered in class lectures), a label, and text field such that when the button is pushed, the player moves into the cell selected by the text field. After every player move, the computer moves into a randomly selected empty cell. When the game is over, a text message must be displayed somewhere on the screen the gives the status of the game. While you are free to change the appearance of the controller, the basic elements must be provided (a view of the game, a button, and a text field to enter the cell). A sample screenshot is displayed below.And this is the code i have thus far:
[import java.awt.*;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
public class TicTacToeView extends Rectangle
public TicTacToeView(int x, int y, int w, int h) {
super(50,60,w,h);
this.setBackground(Color.red);
JFrame win = new JFrame("Tic Tac Toe");
win.setBounds(10,10,w+100, h+100);
win.setLayout(null);
win.setVisible(true);
win.setBackground(Color.gray);

I first learned how to program with BYOB. In BYOB there were variables and lists. Variables worked the same as Java and lists were groups of variables. To create a list, I would give it a name. I could then add variables to this list as items throughout the program. Here's an example of what a list would look like:
[[List]]
item 1: Hello
item 2: world
I could then call upon item 1 or item 2 and delete them if needed. In Java, I want to have 3 lists of variables into which I put user input as variables. The code would look something like the following: (stuff with "//" at the end is detailing what I want to do, not actual working code)
import java.util.*;
public class Archives {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);

public static final String NAME="JAVATAR";
"final" makes sure the constant has the same value and prevents it from being changed. So why add "static" to make it a constant. I figured the reason a few weeks back but don't remember it now.

I've been learning Java in school for lika a year now. Our teacher wanted us to make a game called "Game of Life" .Now it's not very optimized because the only type of GUI we know how to make it with JButtons so if I want a 100x100 grid that means the program has to load 10000 buttons and change text and color on them which I can imagen cause lags and so on but if we ignore that lagg our teacher wanted us to make it loop-able and well I kinda succeeded but the only problem is that I can't get it to wait between every loop so if I tell the program to loop 100 times, the program processes that and that takes forever and then updates the board and sometimes it takes forever and sometimes you cant even see the "cells" moving. Is it possible to get my program to loop and if so how? Here is the code:
//------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
// Hamta standardpaket
//------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
