Apr 9, 2014I was wondering if it would be possible if i can change the arraylist to have number images rather than NORMAL text numbers?

View RepliesI am 4 weeks into my Intro to Java course and I am having a bit of trouble with my code. I need to make a program that will take a user inputted number, space the numbers out, then add them to a total sum. What I am having a hard time with is when I enter a negative number. I can't figure out what I need to do to have my program ignore the "-" in the string.
import java.util.*;
public class Week4_Programming_Problem
{
static Scanner console = new Scanner(System.in);
public static void main(String[] args) {
int number, digit, sum=0;
char digitPos;

The code below is just the GUI for a slot machine. Currently when play is clicked it displays the random number, I'm trying to make it so each random number displays an image in the GUI instead. For example if the random numbers were 2,2,3 it would display Cherry, Cherry, Bells. I started changing field1 to the image but realised I was on the wrong track as it would just display the same image not one allocated to a number. I've left in what I started doing.
how to do it?
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
public class SlotMachineGUI {
JPanel mainPanel;
SlotMachine slotEngine;
[code]....
So I'm trying to make an applet that displays images of cards. The applet has a deck of 52 playing card images. It should shuffle the deck with a random number generator and display the first 10 cards of the shuffled deck.
With this code I have about 100 errors and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong: I know I have to use arrays in order to ultimately display the images, but do I have to create Image objects for the Image [] cards array? I am getting many "class, interface, enum expected" errors as well as others.

I made a calculator that does the basic operations but I want to be able to divide more than two numbers by repeatedly entering values using an arraylist and I keep getting the indexoutofboundsexception and I don't know why? I understand the reason behind the outofboundsexception but I can't figure out why in this case. Here is a snippet:
public Double division(ArrayList<Double> list){
Double dnum = 0.0;
Double divide = numList.get(0); // Initialize divide to first element in the arraylist
for(int i=0; i < numList.size(); i++){
[Code] ....
String name = "Aaron";
String whatToChange = "name";
String verifyNameChange = "";
boolean changeName = false;
if(whatToChange.equals("name")){
while(!changeName){

I've been working on a small text-based RPG for fun. This particular part is supposed to allow the user to change their name. Now, the problem is that when they reach the option to change their name, the above code seems to skip the line:
name = scan.nextLine();
It will erase whatever the player previously entered for their name, as well. So it will print out:
Okay, let's change your name. What did you say it was? Alright, so you'll go by . Is that correct? [now allows input for verifyNameChange]
The above code works fine on it's own, but somehow messes up when put into the full program. I don't want to post the whole program, because it's fairly large. But the String name is set and functions fine before this bit of code.
I'm building casar cipher with using ASCII. I'm done changing lower and upper case alphabet, but I don't know how to fix my code for changing number 9 to <.
here is my class code.
public class SimpleMessageCipher implements MessageCipher {
public String encode(String plainText,int shiftKey){
String cipherText="";
for(int i=0;i<plainText.length();i++)
{
//stores ascii value of character in the string at index 'i'
int c=plainText.charAt(i);

I am trying to write an application where if you click and hold down on 1 button and move the mouse to another button and release the text on the 2 buttons should be switched around.I have a print line so I can se the text are supposed to get switched around but it is just not happening in the GUI.
I attached all my code in case the flaw was to find somewhere else in the code, but the functionality I am working on is the lines 76 to 121.

Here's my coding so far...I want to be able to change what the JLabel says when clicking on one of the buttons for example : when clicking on UP i want it to say "Going Up!"...how do i do this?

Ok, so I am trying to learn about JFrames and JPanels. I have figured out buttons, layouts, etc. What im having trouble with is accessing the label object from the ButtonHandler class since it is static and I need my JLabel to be non-static so that it can change. Basically, I want JLabel to change to a pre-determined text string once a button is pressed. Here's what I have so far
package makewindow;
import java.awt.BorderLayout;
import java.awt.Color;
import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
import javax.swing.JButton;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
import javax.swing.JLabel;
import javax.swing.JPanel;

I am using javafx 2 in my project,After user change the text in HTMLEditor,i will save the context to database,if text wasn't changed,then i do nothing .so i want to know if the user have changed the text.
I only saw how to add text changed listener to HTML web viewer. So how to add text changed listener to htmleditor?
I can't seem to understand how to change certain line of text, inputted from a file. For this I really don't know where to begin. I have got the input from the file. But I want to change like very other line in the file. Can't seem to understand how this could be done. Is there away to access specific lines from the file and edit them? So far, i have this:
import java.util.*;
import java.io.*;
public class ChangeEveryOtherLine {
public static void main(String[] args){
//Constructing file object representing input file
File inputFile = new File("input.txt");
[Code] .....
i just started java and I'm trying to change the JLabel text by clicking on the JButton however it isn't working,
import java.awt.BorderLayout;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
import javax.swing.JButton;
import javax.swing.JLabel;
public class BorderLayoutJFrame extends JFrame
{
public static final int WIDTH = 400;
public static final int HEIGHT = 400;

I'd like to change the text on the two buttons which I have in my Dialog Box, how should I do this?
Also, when I click the X Button in the top right of the Dialog Box, nothing happens, and the program only stops when I end it in jGrasp. How do I make this button close the program when clicked on?
import javax.swing.*;
import java.util.Random;
public class SwingInputExample {
public static void main(String args[]) {

This program simply adds integers to an ArrayList and then prompt the user if they would like to delete specific numbers that they don't want.
The output that I get when I want to delete numbers like 2 and 4 from 1 2 3 4 5 is 1 2 3 4 5 instead of 1 3 5.
Java Code:
import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.util.Scanner;
public class AL
{
// A regular array like int arr[] has to have its size declare before run-time and it's not dynamic which mean it can not grow or expand on its own.
static Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
// You have to use reference types(Integer, Double, Float); not primitive types(int).
[Code] .....
We have been given an assignment to create a small library, with the following classes Library, Book, Author and Copy. With a given class Biblio which has predefined code and adds the books to the class book in an arraylist in Class Copy.
The UML Domain is attached so you know the flow of the classes Everything is working fine and the generated output is correct.
There is just one method in class Library that is not working, the int method has to count the number of Copy's based on the Class Book (String):
I have to go through the Arraylist in Class Copy and look for a specific book and return the number of copy's.
I have tried multiple steps using a for loop Now I have found a similar post the uses hashset, I have tried below code but the return comes back with 0. (There are 3 copy's)
package domein;
import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.util.HashMap;
import java.util.HashSet;
import java.util.Map;
import java.util.Set;
import domein.Boek;
import domein.Exemplaar;

This is my class with the GUI:
import java.awt.FlowLayout;
import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
import javax.swing.JTextField;
import javax.swing.JPasswordField;
[code]....
Eclipse error message:

i think the problem is to do with my images not being recognised. I put them in my source in User>...>workspace>src which is correct as far as i know. From what i know the images should show up if i look at my src file in eclipse but they dont. I tried changing the file type from .png to .jpg but it makes no difference.
I wanna learn to create a method where I use a scanner or any other way to input.The stuffs I input will be strings. The whole thing will be like a destination creator.So if I input the string USA, it will write this to a file:
1:USA
When I go to the method again the ID will be added so if I input UK, the file will contain:
1:USA
2:UK
Now if I terminate the program, next time when I run it again it will be able to read the ArrayList, so if I wanna go to the method again and write: Norway the file will contain:
1:USA
2:UK
3:Norway
Later I also want to be able to use println to show all of these lines from the file, as well I would like to be able to delete an ID, so if I delete ID 2 the file would contain:
1:USA
3:Norway
I'm quite new to Java, I'm in a Java course since soon 3 weeks back and I have sure learned a lot, all the loops and basic statements that exist in most languages, but now when it comes to this I just don't understand.
The initial output of the texfile is this. NO ARRAYLIST OR COMPARATOR IS ALLOWED:
Steve Jobs 9 f 91
Bill Gates 6 m 90
James Gosling 3 m 100
James Gosling 3 f 100
Dennis Ritchie 5 m 94
Steve Jobs 9 m 95
Dennis Ritchie 5 f 100
Jeff Dean 7 m 100
Bill Gates 6 f 96
Jeff Dean 7 f 100
Sergey Brin 27 f 97
Sergey Brin 22 m 98
The collateExams method collates/sorts exam objects starting with the first 'm' (midterm) of the first object and immediately followed by the same person's 'f'(final). Only a SINGLE loop construct is allowed. The output from collateExams() should be the one below but my code is not working, i.e. collateExams method is not working. The output from collateExams() should be
Bill Gates 6 m 90
Bill Gates 6 f 96
James Gosling 3 m 100
James Gosling 3 f 100
Dennis Ritchie 5 m 94
Dennis Ritchie 5 f 100
Steve Jobs 9 m 95
Steve Jobs 9 f 91
Jeff Dean 7 m 100
Jeff Dean 7 f 100
Sergey Brin 22 m 98
Sergey Brin 27 f 97

I have an ArrayList of JTextFields in a CAMSetup1 class that contains a bunch of named JTextFields: Layer_textField_1, Layer_textField_2, Layer_textField_3, ... etc
I would like to check the .isEnabled status of a particular JTextField in that ArrayList from my main class by passing the name of the JTextField to a method in the CAMSetup1 class as a string
The peice of code calling the method from the main class is something like this:
if (CAMSetup1.getFieldEnabledStatus("Layer_textField_1") == true) {
data.writeToFile(CAMSetup1.getFieldText("Layer_textField_2") + " LAYER 2 LIST FILE
");
}
The method for checking the .isEnabled that I have so far is:
public boolean getFieldEnabledStatus(String textFieldname) {
boolean status = false;
//<need code here>
return status;
}
I also need getting the text:
public String getFieldText(String textFieldname) {
String filename = false;
//<need code here>
return filename;
}
I need to create a program that uses ArrayList to store integers the user inputs, then scan the array for the largest number. I would also like the user to be able to exit this loop if the number 0 is entered.
As you can see below, I'm not sure how to correctly exit the do-while loop. I found this on another forum, but it does not work.
Java Code:
import java.util.*;
public class array {
public static void main(String [] args){
ArrayList<Integer> list = new ArrayList<Integer>();
[Code] ....
I am advised to use a while loop the Scanner method hasNextLine() and in the while loop body, call the Scanner method nextLine(), and add the returned String to the ArrayList of Strings. what I have gotten so far:
Scanner input = new Scanner(new File(""));
while(input.hasNextLine()) {
String line = input.nextLine();
System.out.println(line);
I would like to create an ArrayList from data types stored in a text file.The ArrayList would be multidimensional with two data types; int, String.
Example text file could be:
4 cahiers grand format
3 stylots bic bleu
5 gommes
I find it very difficult for multiple data types i don't see how its possible.
I just want to check that the given PDF file is 3D PDF or normal PDF file. how can I do this in JAVA?
