I have to create a dictionary in java using search trees. I have problems with the methods put() and remove(). Working properly, ie correctly adds a new element and eliminates correctly. But I should improve a few things.
As you can see from the interface, both methods must return an element of type V, that is:
- case put(): returns the previous value associated with key (or null if the key was not associated with any value)
- case remove(): returns the value associated with the key (or null if the key was not present in the dictionary)
I do not understand how come my put method always returns null even though in reality I make him return node.getElement().
Instead, the remove() method does not know how to modify it to make sure it returns the value associated with the key. If I change the helper method return value in V (instead of Node<K, V>) method does not work anymore...
How can I then edit these two methods?

I have a requirement like to attach most suitable flow to a request
Flows should be like below (eg:Flow1) .We can create n number of flows with any combination of values.
When I tried to create a request that have all the features in the flow. And I have to attach the most suited flow to that request.
Suppose my request have the feature Place = Place1 and company =Comp1 and Job=Job1 .here most suitable flow is Flow1.
So my question is how can I implement the logic in java for getting the most suitable match.
In the class below I'm trying to create a class that will accept dates in various formats and create a range. The first constructor is easy because I send it the begin date and end date as Date objects. Now I want to send a month(and year) in a constructor and derive the begin and end dates from it. In my constructor that accepts the month/year I need to put the this(startDate, endDate) at the top to be allowed, but the parameters are not built yet.

I am currently building a Plugin system for an application and I wanted to add a little security feature.
I have read many tutorials on this and they basically all came down to the same answer:
"Its complicated: You need a custom class loader and security manager and ... and even then its still tricky"
So I thought, before I load the classes dynamically I will simply read the class files. Why bother with a SecurityManager or ClassLoader if I can simply whitelist all allowed classes and search for all illegal Class access before I even load anything.

The assignment is to create a SmartString class that implements a SmartStringInterface class (created by professor) and implements a few methods. We are basically taking a string and then taking various substrings and inserting, deleting them and undoing changes as well. Here are the methods in the interface to use along with the parameters.

The Undo is supposed to be able to be called multiple times (to be tested using a driver program that we must create) but the part that's got me is that the changes are only supposed to be stored. Currently, I am storing the "new" string after each change onto a stack, so that undo can just pop off the stack and it will revert to the previous string. Professor said that was wrong, so I don't know how to do it. Here is what I have so far (some of the code we have is using default StackADT stuff from our book, so if you need that I can post as well. You can see in the undo method where I currently save the string. We can use multiple stacks if needed, but the less the better. Must use at least 1. The exception code is already coded for us in another file also. I am only having to code these methods and the driver to test.

I'm trying to build a method that can search a binary search tree for a specific target and then return the number of probes it took to get there. It seems to me that the best way to do this would be a recursive search method and a counter that tracks the number of calls. But I'm struggling with how to implement this. For my lab this week I have to print out four arrays. The arrays have to be 5 units long. The first three arrays are the student's exam grades for exam 1, 2 & 3 and the fourth array should be the average for each student's three tests. The program should ask the user to input the grades in and then the program should compute the average. For example the program should print this if these are the exam grades the user imputs:

I thought I wrote the program perfectly and when I compile it there are no errors but when I run it, it only lets me input the numbers for the first three students and then prints out something so strange.

I'm writing a Java program to get the gpa of a student as a command line argument. Then display the class of the degree according to some criteria. Here is my code. But it says "ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException :0". How can I fix this?

prompts user for the grades of each of the students and saves them an int array called grades. Your program shall check that the grade is between 0 and 100. program should then check if the grade is equal to or greater than 50, where 50 is the pass rate.

There is more code, but it's repetitive. Now, I keep getting an error. Array of bounds. I believe i get the error because the phone number. The phone number is on the next line..I created a different arraylist for phonenumber, but I dont know how to match it with the correct person, student, employee...etc.
