Create A Java File That Will Print Out Temperature In Fahrenheit?

Jan 11, 2014

I am trying to create a java file that will print out the temperature in Fahrenheit. This is my code.

import java.util.Scanner;
 public class TemperatureConverter {
public static void main(String[] args) {
 float temperature;
Scanner in= new Scanner(System.in);
 System.out.printf("Enter temperature in degrees Celsius: ");
temperature = in.nextInt();
//Getting a red X next to this line.
fahrenheit = temperature * 9/5 +32;
//Add this line
System.out.printf(+temperature + " degrees Celsius is " + fahrenheit + " degrees Fahrenheit.");
 //System.out.println(temp1 + " degrees celsius is " + fahrenheit + " degrees Fahrenheit.");

}

I need to know what I am doing wrong. Using Eclipse as my platform. I have entered comments where I am getting red X's.

The error I get when I run the program.

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Error: Unresolved compilation problems:
fahrenheit cannot be resolved to a variable
fahrenheit cannot be resolved to a variable

Temperature Conversion Celsius To Fahrenheit

Jun 16, 2014

I have followed the instructions carefully but the conversion values are not correct.

Write a program that displays a table of the Celsius temperatures 0 through 20 and their Fahrenheit equivalents. The formula for converting a temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit is
F - | C + 32
where ¥ is the Fahrenheit temperature and C is the Celsius temperature. Your program must use a loop to display the table.

Code

public class TempConversion
{
public static void main(String[] args) {
for(double i = 0; i <= 20.0; i++) {

Take Input Of Temperature In Fahrenheit And Convert It To Celsius And Kelvin

I’m trying to write a program in Java that will take the input of a temperature in Fahrenheit and convert it to Celsius and Kelvin. This is what I have so far but when I run the program on Eclipse it says the temp. in Celsius is infinity and the same for kelvin. Why is it not preforming the operation and spiting out the correct numbers?

public class Temperature {
public static void main(String[] args) {
// This program converts temperatures from Fahrenheit to Celsius to Kelvin.
double temperature1;// operands
double temperature2;

I/O / Streams :: Unable To Create A Print Writer To Write To File

Apr 25, 2014

I am completing a USACO online problem and am trying to create a print writer to write to my file(ride.out). I did this:

PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(new BufferedReader(new FileWriter("ride.out")));

However, a load of undefined constructor errors come up for PrintWriter(BufferedWriter) and BufferedWriter(FileWriter). I have imported java.io.* so I don't know what the issue is. This has worked before.

edit: bufferedreader? i give up(not literally)

String text = text.getText();

Also I created another JTextField in which I want the answer to be displayed in, but I'm not too sure how to go about that.
This is my attempt at it, but it doesn't work because it doesn't make sense;
result.setText1(Integer.toString(celsius));

Celsius To Fahrenheit Java GUI

Aug 4, 2014

Write a CiUI application that converts Celsius temperatures to Fahrenheit temperatures. The user should be able to enter a Celsius temperature, click a button, and then sec the equivalent Flhnfflhelt temperature. Use the following formula to make the conversion: F - - y C + 32..F is the Fahrenheit temperature and C is the Celsius temperature.

Now the program runs (In Jgrasp) But when I Enter a number in the fahrenheit box and hit "COnvert' NOTHING happens. I went over my code and I can't find what seems to be the problem...I tried changing

ActionListener Listener = new ConvertListener();
convertBtn.addActionListener(ConvertListener); <----- I tried changing ConvertListener to just Listener but it gives me more problems

Create A Java Program That Can Read Specific Data Within Csv File To Work Out Averages

Aug 7, 2014

i am fairly new to java but have made a few projects so i do know most aspects that would allow me to complete the task its just i have been stuck at the same place now for 2 days.The project is to create a java program that can read specific data within a csv file to work out the averages etc. The csv file is a database of different weather stats . an example of the first 12 months of the csv file is below..

[CSV FILE]

year ,month,average rainfall etc

1946 15.70.616108.131.5
1946 28.23.56111.871
1946 38.82932.9 102.9

1946 513.96060.7 143.6

[code]...

I know that once the data is indexed i can than use a double to find the average of the 12 specific pieces of data and so on. once this is complete i should than be able to transfer the data to a simple graph.

Read Text File Into Array Ask User To Save File And Print Data

Jul 14, 2014

New to programming. Am supposed to create a program that reads a text file (of integers) and computes a series of computations on these integers. I don't have the code for the integers in my code yet, (i know how to do those), but am struggling getting the array to simply print in the print writer. I have the user select a text file, read the file with a scanner, and then save the computations done from my code into another file. specifically, the problem is as follows: Write a program that uses a file chooser dialog to select a file containing some integers. The file contains an integer N followed by N integers. The program then uses a file chooser dialog to let the user specify the name and location of an output file to write results to.The data written to the output file will be as follows

(1) The original list of N numbers from the input file,
(2) The original list of N numbers printed in reverse order of how they appear
in the input file.
(3) The sum and average of these numbers,
(4) The minimum of all the numbers,
(5) The maximum of all the numbers.

PrintWriter Creates File But Doesn't Print File

Nov 7, 2014

This is a college course assignment that consists of classes TotalSales and TotalSalesTest.In the main program I have created a two dimensional array to output a columnar layout with cross-totals in 4 rows and 5 columns. This program outputs sales totals by row for each sales person(1 - 4) and output by column for products(1 - 5). I have created extra elements in the array to store total for rows and columns. So far both classes compiles. The problem is that although the PrintWriter creates a notepad file, it doesn't print to it. I don't seem to understand the input and output methods completely. I finished another program similar to this using basically the same try and catch that read the file and printed out a document in notepad. Here is the code and I'll try include the input file.

import java.util.Scanner;
import java.io.*;
public class TotalSales {
private int salesPerson; //declare class variable

Reading Text File Into Object Array And Create Random Access File

Dec 9, 2014

I am working on a project that requires me to build a database with random access file, representing products, the base product contains a name (about 30 characters), a price (double), and a quantity (integer). I have worked on this project for probably 15+ hours and have tried so many things and feel like I've barley made any progress...

The part i am really struggling with is taking the data from the text file and creating an object array with it using the product class. Once ive accomplished that, i have to use that data to create a random access file with the data. Here is the base Product class that must be used to create the objects for the array.

public class Product
{
public String pName;
public String stringName;
public double price;
public int quanity;

[Code]...

these continue for about 40-50 entries, they are not seperated by a blank line though i had to add those so it would display correctly, each entry is on its own line with name seperated with spaces, then price after a comma, then quanity after the second comma.....

Read Input File And Create Output With Anagram For Words In File

Sep 24, 2014

Well my code is supposed to ask for an input file and then (ex: input.txt), read the input file and create an output.txt file with the anagram for the words in the file. Also it should be displayed on the screen. However my code doesn't display the anagram on screen or the output file!

Heres is the code:

import java.io.*;
import java.lang.*;
import java.util.*;

/* This program will read a file given by the user, read the words within the file and determine anagrams of the given words. If the file that the user inputs is empty, then the program will output "The input file is empty."
* The program will read the file line by line, counting the total number of words read. If there are more than 50 words, "There are more than 50 words."
* will be printed, and the program will terminate. After each line is read, the words in the line will be separated,punctuation characters will be removed, and upper case characters will be switched to lower case.
* If any word is larger than 12 characters, that word will not be considered in the total amount of words in the file and it will not be sorted.
* After each word is read, the letters will be sorted and stored into an array containing each
* word's 'signature'. After all the words have been read, words will be printed to the output file on the same line based upon their signature.
*/

public class Anagram {
//Creating constants for maximum words in file and maximum chars in word

public static final int MAX_WORDS = 50;

Program To Convert Temperature

Apr 24, 2014

Write a program that will provide temperature conversions between degrees Fahrenheit and degrees Celsius. Provide a method that will take an argument representing a temperature in Fahrenheit degrees and return the equivalent temperature in degrees Celsius. Also provide a method that will take an argument representing a temperature in degrees Celsius and return the equivalent temperature in degrees Fahrenheit. Conversion formulas are as follows: F = 9./5. * C + 32, C = 5./9. * ( F - 32 ), where F = Fahrenheit temperature and C = Celsius temperature. You must prompt for input using the Input class methods that are provided as a download for this unit.

I have two questions, 1st is why won't I get an output from my program when I run it? 2nd is how do I prompt for input using the Input class methods downloaded? The downloaded files are in .class form, and won't show any output when I run them.My code is:

import java.util.*;
public class temp
{
public static void main ( String [] args )
{
Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in);

High / Low / Average Temperature

Nov 19, 2014

I am trying to write a code that asks the user to enter a temperature for each day of the week and then it prints out the high temperature, the low temperature, and the average temperature. This is the code I have so far:

import java.util.*;
import java.text.DecimalFormat;
public class Lab10 {
public static void main(String[] args) {
java.util.Scanner input = new java.util.Scanner(System.in);
int high, low, i, sum;
double avg;
[Code] ....

There are a few issues that I am having.

1. I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it print the low temperature
2. I had it running perfectly until I changed one thing and now I get a compile error saying that the last 5 statements are unreachable. (lines 32-37)
