Create A Static Array Of Objects In Java?
Jan 2, 2014
Im looking for a means to store groups of static data..
so I understand these simple string arrays...
Java Code:
private static String[] names = new String[] {
"aidanmack",
"johnsmith"
}
private static String[] ages = new String[] {
"30",
"30"
} mh_sh_highlight_all('java');
But can I not combine that into an array of objects? something along the lines of what you would do with json? like...
Java Code:
private static array[] multi = new array(){
{"name":"AIDANMACK","age":"30"},
{"name":"johnsmith","age":"31"}
} mh_sh_highlight_all('java');

How can I do the work below in Java
In this main class, create 5 objects of the class Menu, as defined in the table below.
Name amount of calories cooking time price per person number of drinks
Fufu and Groundnut Soup 564.65 2515.572
Red Red 345 12 9.980
Rice and Beef Stew 560.4 1512.651
Ga Kenkey and Fish 780 10 10.15 1
Banku and Tilapia 450.4 35 25.17 2
Exercise d
In your main class create an array of length 5, and store the 5 objects (Exercise c) into the array. You can use any name for your array.
From the array, use a loop to: Print the details of all the objects using the method you defined in Exercise b.
Exercise e
Use another loop to:
-Print only the name and cooking time of all the dishes that take less than 30 minutes to cook. Hint: you may use the getter methods for the name and cooking time attributes, and then, print these values (name, cooking time).
Exercise f
Use another loop to :
-Calculate and print the total price of all the objects (in the array).
-Calculate the total price of all the objects with VAT included for each dish (VAT rate is 17.5%).
Submission
-Create a folder with your index number as its name.
-Copy your Java Project folder into the created folder.
-Print a hard copy of your classes.
-Submit both soft copy and hard copy of your project

I've come across something that i'm not overall sure about regarding the static keyword in Java.I'm making a vertical scrolling game where the player simply shoots enemies and they shoot back as they fall, dropping items if they die such as power ups and coins. I have an enemy called Bat and this is the bullet creation code in the update method:
if(oldPlayerY + 220 > posY && getBulletDelay > 0.90f){
batBullets.add(new Bullet(posX + 10, posY - 10));
getBulletDelay = 0;
}
The method is creating a new bullet object and it then adds that to the arraylist called batBullets, which is simple enough. I then need to access this arraylist in the main game update class so I can render those bullets on the screen, even if the bat dies. I was always taught that you use the static keyword when you need to access something from the class that doesn't require an object. Because of this, I have the following code.
for(Bullet bullet : Bat.batBullets){
bullet.setY(bullet.getY - 5); // Set the bullet to fall
renderMap.getSpriteBatch().draw(bullet.batBullet(), bullet.getX(), bullet.getY()); // render the bullets
}
This seems perfectly fine to me because I need to access the batBullet arraylist and it doesn't make sense to create a new bat object as I already have random spawning in place for them.

'm working on a program that is to act as an inventory for a book store. There are two classes (Store and Book), and numerous methods which you will see in my code. The program is supposed to read in an inventory from a file which contains 10 books (each row in the file represents a book with an ISBN number, the price of the book, and the number in stock)and store this file into an array of type Book[]. There is then to be another method to process a purchase interactively. The Store class is also to keep a count of how many books were sold at the time of closing and also how much was made that day.
I'm having some difficulty figuring out how I should set up the purchase processing method though. I've written out how I think it would be set up (not too familiar with the terminology, but I think it would be called pseudo code?) I'll include that now along with a few other notes.
public Book[] purchase(String isbn, double price, int copies) {
int itemsSold;
double totalMade;
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.println("Please enter the ISBN number of the book you would like to purchase: ");
[Code] ....
So basically here's what needs to be accomplished with this portion of code:
1.Ask the user to enter the ISBN number of the book they'd like to purchase.
2.Search the array for the object that contains that ISBN.
3.If the ISBN isn't found in the array, display a message stating that we don't have that book.
4.If the ISBN is found but the number of copies is 0, display a message saying the book is out of stock.
5.If the ISBN is found and the number of copies is greater than 0, ask the user how many copies they'd like to purchase.
6.If the number they enter is greater than the number of copies of that book in the array, display a message stating that and ask them to enter another quantity.
7.Once the purchase is complete I need to update the array by subtracting the number of copies of that particular book that was purchased.
8.Print the updated array.
9.Display a count of how many books were purchased, and how much money was made from the purchase.
I know that code has a lot of holes in it, but I'm just trying to get everything together and figure out how to do each step.
The part I'm stuck on right now is trying to figure out how to search the array to first see if the ISBN that was entered is in the array, and then to find the number of copies of the book with that ISBN number.
In case it will visualize what this array looks like, here's a print out of the array from a sample run I just did.
ISBN: 1234567, Price: 31.670000, Copies: 0
ISBN: 1234444, Price: 98.500000, Copies: 4
ISBN: 1235555, Price: 27.890000, Copies: 2
ISBN: 1235566, Price: 102.390000, Copies: 6
[Code] ....

I have an assignment in which I have to design a method where I add an object at any given position in an array and shift the elements already in the array to make room. For example I have a collection class which holds trading card objects. So I wish to add a new trading card to this collection at a specified index or position with out deleting the current object already stored in the array . All this has to be done without the use of array lists, vectors or any abstract data types besides arrays . My question is how do I accomplish this . Say I wish to add a new trading card in position 4 the new card is added to my array and the card currently in position 4 gets moved to position 5 and the card in position 5 gets moved to 6 etc. The maximum amount of cards my collection can hold is 100. How would I add my trading card object to the specified position without overwriting what is currently there and shifting all other elements?Here is my current code.
public class CardCollection {
public BaseballCard [] collection;
final int MAX_CARDS = 100;
public CardCollection() {
collection = new BaseballCard[MAX_CARDS];
}
public CardCollection(BaseballCard[]c)
[code]...
position refers to the position in the CardCollection and not the position inside the array.

Create a java application that contains an array of 10 multiple-choice questions related to you favorite hobby. each question contains three answer choices. also create a parallel array that holds the correct answer to each question - A,B, or C. display each question and verify that the users enters only A,B, or C as the answere - if not, keep prompting the user until a valid response in entered. If the user responds to a question correctly, display "Correct!"; otherwise, display the correct answer is and the letter to the correct answer. After the user answer all the question, display the number of correct and incorrect answers.

I have a project I am currently working on using Primefaces and MySQL. I have a page that will display information queried from the database. I have textfields that will display the data from a given record. But I want to ensure that the displayed data cannot be altered. I decided on disabling the textfields unless the create or edit button were clicked. At which point all textfields will be enabled for editing, and cleared if create button was clicked. I want to push the disabling/enabling of the elements back to a managed bean, but I want to have the bean take in two lists or arrays, one containing all elements by ID and one containing a list of exempt elements. Is there a way I can create a List or Array of the ID's that I can send to the bean? I know little in Javascript and previous attempts to implement it have met with little success.
A short example of the code:
<p:tabView>
<p:tab id=pmDBTab title="PM Database Tab">
<p:panelGrid id="projectInfo">
<p:row id="rowOne">
<p:column id="r1c1" colspan="2">
<p:outputLabel id="searchLabel" for="searchField" value="Search: " style="font-weight: bolder"/>
[Code] ....
I want to create a list that would contain all and another that would contain the exemptions such as searchField, searchCriteria, searchButton, projectList and viewButton. The actual exemption list is far smaller than the list of all children. I have found sources that can disable the elements with a java bean, but I have not been able to find one that would allow me to define those that should and should not be disabled, then vice versa for enabling.

For class, we need to create a word game using classes and objects.
The game is played in rounds. The player is presented with a word that is missing letters. The player has to fill in the missing spaces with their letter guesses. The words presented are chosen with a random number generator which has been provided for us. At the end of the game, the player is shown their score.
In steps, I have to:
-Welcome the player.
-Present the puzzle.
-Allow the player to fill in the blanks.
-Have the program check responses for correct/incorrect input.
-End the game if they have three misses, or continue if they complete the puzzle.
Now, to start, I have a class for the number generator, a class to store the array of 25 words, and a class for the game itself.

while(inc < numberOfColumns){
String rslt=rs.getString(inc+1);
rowArr[inc] = rslt;

I'm writing a code with a cellphone class to set price, brand and serial number. I'm also, in the main method, initializing 100 different cellphone in a matrix style ( up to here I'm fine). I have to use a copy constructor to define some cellphones ( fine too). Another thing I had to do was to generate random numbers and swap the price of the cellphones ( which I'm fine with too). My problem lies after using my static method. I have to display a new matrix with the changed price and return the counter that I used in my method to see how many times it was changed.
My two problems are that if I display my array again after I ran the method, it stays the same ( I didn't "catch" the change so I'm guessing the compiler just didn't keep them in the array). Secondly, I don't know how to return the counter. I don't have any ".getCounter" or something ( what I'm used to). Any input?
My formatting is terrible, I'm trying to improve it no need to point it out
Here's my code:
import java.util.Random;
//Cellphone Class ( apart from main method)
class Cellphone {
private String brand;
private long serialNumber;
private double Price;
//declaration of variables in cellphone class

I have an arraylist, list, that I need to take the size to declare an array, arr3, in another class. Problem 1: the size is giving me an error of "can not make static reference to non-static method getListSize() from the type FindItemInfo". I tried to change getListSize() to static and it gives me and error another place. I try to then fix that, and I get a new error... and so on.
I am using arr3 to store items the user can not afford. I have this next problem even when I input an integer for the arr3 size. I am getting a NullPointerException, and I can't figure out why the arr3[] is not loading. I tried debugging but can not figure out where I went wrong, especially since this code was working in the last assignment before I changed list[] to an arrayList. It always breaks at line 64, but I believe it has to be somewhere in the cashOut() method.
Relevant code is:
public class FindItemInfo implements InterfacePrint{
ArrayList <ItemAttribute> list = new ArrayList<ItemAttribute>();
//does stuff
public void printPriority(){
TransactionCalc finish = new TransactionCalc();
[Code] .....

I am taking the Class Algorithms and Datastructures and got an assignment for Lab that really throws me off. The goal is to create an Array out of a given CSV file, implement several Methods that get the size of array, etc.
I am still stuck in the first part where the CSV has to be imported into the Array. My problem is that I need a mechanism that figures out the needed size for the Array, creates the array, and only then transfers the data from the CSV.
The list consists of the following wifi related values:
MAC-Adress, SSID, Timestamp, Signalstrength.
These are on the list, separated by comma. The Columns are each of these, and the rows are the four types of values making up the information on a certain wifi network.
The catch is, we are not allowed to use any of the following:
java.util.ArrayList
java.util.Arrays
and any class out of java.util.Collection.
So far I used the BufferedReader to read in the file and tried to implement the array, but I get an arrayindexoutofboundsexception.
Below is my Code (Its still an active construction zone):
public class WhatsThere {
public WhatsThere(String wifiscan) throws IOException {
}
public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException {
// WhatsThere Liste = new WhatsThere(String wifiscan);
String[][] arrayListe = new String[0][0];
