I've been working quite a bit with a login system the past couple of months and I now have a version that I would like to try "for real" by extracting it as a runnable .jar or .exe file. I've looked at a couple of guides that told me how to do this properly, but even after following every step precisely it didn't work.
One of the guides I tried: 3 Ways to Create an Executable File from Eclipse - wikiHow
Double clicking the file or selecting it and pressing enter does nothing, the computer loads for a second and then nothing happens. I don't receive any visible errors when extracting the program, either.
However, when running the file from the command prompt I do receive an odd error:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.2.9200]
(c) 2012 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:UsersUserName>java -jar Login.jar
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: input == null!
at javax.imageio.ImageIO.read(Unknown Source)
at LoginSystem.Data.updateData(Data.java:347)
at LoginSystem.Data.<init>(Data.java:309)
at LoginSystem.MainFrame.<init>(MainFrame.java:42)
at LoginSystem.MainFrame.main(MainFrame.java:457)
C:UsersUserName>
I must say I don't quite understand the error, it seems to be unable to load an image which is odd considering the program works fine without any errors at all in Eclipse.

For my jsp file, the code editor shows no error, but the projects window shows an error. I built my project again, cleaned the project, restart eclipse twice and summoned cthulhu. But my project still shows an error. How do I find the cause.

I have one Project -"A".Inside of that I use, .XLS to read data.
Structure - A/src/TestData
Inside of the TesetData - I have placed XLS files.
I have main method in TestDriver class.If I run this in Eclipse, running fine.But after exported to executable/runnable Jar, and ran via command line (command - jar -jar myjar.jar), I see issue: "Exception in thread "main" java.io.FileNotFoundException: srcTestDataTestCaseController.xls"
public static void main(String[] args)
throws Exception
{
ResultSet rs;
rs = readExcelData(testControllerName, sheetName, "");
}
As I use main() method which is static, I am getting error if I write like the below:
public void getXls(){
String testControllerName ="TestCaseController.xls"
TestDriver.getClass().getClassLoader().getResource (testControllerName);
}
How to read/access the XLS, after I exported as runnable jar

I have create as short example which contains two classes Cat and Dog followed by a switch statement in the main method.
Class Cat
public class Cat {
private String name;
//Setter
public void setName(String pName)
{name = pName;}
//Getter
public String getName()
{return name;}
// Constructor
public Cat(String catName)
{name = catName;}
[code]....
My Issue is that after creating the objects within the switch statement, is there a way to return the objects back to the main method once created within the switch ?

i have programmed a game using JPanel and JFrame. My App is of this type (if this is relevant to the problem):
public class Main extends JPanel {
private JFrame frame;
public static void main(String[] args) {
new Main();
} public Main() {
frame.setSize(WIDTH, HEIGHT);
[Code] ....
The problem is, When i export the file in eclipse as Runnable jar file,and run the exported file, it gives me a blank screen (white default) and nothing is running. Whereas, normal debugging of the game is working quite well.

I'm trying to right a GUI in swing, and as part of my program, I want to open a secondary window out of the main window when a mouse clicks on the main window. Then, once I click a button on the secondary window, I want that window to close and submit data to the main window (like an info form). I have almost figured out how to do this, except for one problem. By putting a variable inside my form window called "ready," and then in my main window running a loop that constantly checks if ready is true and doesn't proceed until its true, I can create the form window, modify the values in it (currently just one value called "difficulty" that's modified by a jSlider), and then when i click the "begin" button, ready is changed to true, the form window closes, and the main window can proceed. However, when I try to put the while loop checking the ready variable inside a mouseClicked method in the main window, the form window freezes when it opens, and you can't see any of its content or modify it in any way (you can't even close it).
Here is my code:
//form window class
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
import javax.swing.event.*;
public class formWindow extends JFrame {
private JTextField instructions1;

As a brand new with Java I've created a small "Hello world" program using eclipse.
I would like to create an exe file from this application. Therefore, I need the jar file.
I can't find such a file with that extension in the folder where I saved the java project.
How can I manage this file?
I know it is a very basic issue, but as I mentioned it is the first "Hello world" test...

I don't know if this is appropriate to Swing/AWT, or even if this is a Java issue, but I had quite a shock recently. I have been working on a kind of drawing program in which the user can select tiny control rectangles and drag them around, causing the shape of a polygon to change. (They are not implemented as Java Polygons or Shapes because some are one-dimensional). I have gotten it into pretty good shape, so I exported it from Eclipse, my development platform, into a standalone Java application. In the standalone application, each time I drag the mouse, the redrawing shows nasty flickering, as if it's running too slowly. While I was developing the application inside Eclipse, it ran perfectly, with no flickering whatsoever.
What gives? I'd expect that the in-Eclipse runs would be slower, because they're burdened with extra debugging baggage, while the exported standalone version should run faster. But the reverse is the case.

I write lot of java code everyday. Sometime in hurry I forget to close the resources (connection,file,etc,) in JAVA6 and this causes memory leak issues. I am looking for an eclipse plugin which can complain for these minor mistakes. Also I am looking for some more eclipse plugins which can improve my source code quality like naming conventions, code redundancy, complexity, too long code outside methods, etc,.

I have a method that checks to see if a file exists, if so, it reads the data contained therein, if not it calls another method then exits.
public void checkLoadPreviousStationStatus() throws FileNotFoundException, IOException,
ClassNotFoundException, EOFException, TempArrayOutOfBoundsException{
File f = new File(staFileName);
//if station file already exists load the info
if(f.exists() && !f.isDirectory()){
[Code] ....
My question, do I need to delete this file before exiting the method f.delete();? If not, what happens to it when I exit the method?
Memory recalled from a long ago taken c++ class: It's just reserving a memory location that will or will not be used isn't it? If nothing is stored in that location the reservation goes away right?

I need to make some operations with a file. I struggle to understand why Apache is throwing this error:
(The system cannot find the file specified)
My file is located in the root directory of the project.
And here is how I indicate the path to it:
String filePath = "default.jpg";
InputStream inputStream = new FileInputStream(new File(filePath));
If I put the file in the Eclipse folder, it works... But I need it to work if I put it in my project's root folder.
