Jan 12, 2015So it seems to reason that many JavaFX applications will want to dynamically change CSS styles. Is the best way to do this via the <node>.getStyleClass().add("classname")? The underlying data structure is an observable list. So lets say one has 5 styles that simply change the fill color of a circle to 5 different colors respectively. So if I have a condition in which I want to dynamically apply 1 of these 5 styles, the way I currently do this is by defining all 5 styles as strings in a list using a static initializer, then I call <node>.getStyleClass().removeAll(list), then getStyleClass().add("classname"). I do this to avoid adding the same style over and over and inflating the underlying list. Is this the correct way to manage dynamic CSS styles?
So I know there is a few different way to implement a splash screen. My app has definitely gotten larger over the last few months of development and I have noticed there is about a 5 second delay between when I run the application to when I see the main stage. I was thinking a splash screen would be nice to fill this time period. I have not had time to prototype using a Preloader and I fear that using an alternate, lightweight stage on startup would still take too long of a delay. I was actually thinking that using the nice and simple JVM argument "-splash:<image name>" would be simple, easy and effective. Unfortunately when I try to do this, the splash screen comes up but never goes away.

FFT Convolution Implementation In Java
Dec 26, 2014Not necessarily Java related, more a general programming issue I have come a long and I am currently using java to mock up a project that will eventually get moved over to C++.
I am trying to implement FFT Convolution into a java project and have things partially working, I do not know if it is a coding issue, logic issue or if I simply know nothing of FFT and convolution.
For starters I got an FFT library that I do have working, if I create a small array pass it into the forward FFT, do a little bit of bit manipulation (converting a complex array of size n*2 into a re[] and im[] of size n), run the inverse FFT and do the same bit manipulation again I get back where I started.
However if I take two arrays, a Dirac Delta function (an array with a 1 followed by zeros for the rest of the array) and a stepping kernel (ex. {1, 2, 3, 4 etc}), I would expect to get the forward FFT of both arrays, bit manipulation, multiply them together, Inverse FFT, and bit manipulate again and the result would be the kernel. I have not had such luck.

Applets :: Java Is Not Finding Image
Aug 23, 2014I have been on java applets and it's been fun but I'm stucked with painting a ladybug image on applet using "getImage ( getCodeBase(), "Images/ ladybug.gif") to load the image. It runs but the appletviewer is blank. My applets are not embedded in the web. I just type the codes in eclipse and click the 'run' button.I think the problem is that java is not finding the image in the directory I specified. Please where am I supposed to save the ladybug image so that java can find it on my system whenever I supply the path.

In And Out Degree Of A Graph
May 2, 2014I have this code for reading a text file and printing out information about the graph, the program works perfectly but I need to figure out the in degree and out degree of the graph if it is an directed graph. So my question is how would I go about implementing that? I know what in degree and out degree does but in terms of the code I'm not so sure, so I'm thinking if the case of vertex 0,1 the first vertex comes before the second vertex so that would in an in degree right? But how would I do that?

Generate Bar Graph From Data
May 22, 2014I need to generate a bar chart given the data that is in main. The relative performance of each sorting algorithm with respect to time, number of comparisons, and number of swaps for each data set (e.g., 50,000 –400,000 random integers). Each algorithm will have 5 bars corresponding to the 5 data sets. The height of these bars will depend on the performance of the algorithm for that data set.
I know how to write a bar with normal values like integers but for this I'm not sure because the values for instance comparisons and swaps are not given they are calculated. I just need to know what steps to go about doing that, you can even express them in pseudocode or even just explaining it I don't need the code, I think. Here is the main

Adjacency List Graph
May 4, 2014I'm trying to read a text file of a graph and print information about the graph including the order and size of the graph, rather it is a directed or undirected graph, if it is directed the in and out degree, and the and a list of all vertices for which it is adjacent. The problem is the adjacency list is just printing out the list of vertices instead of the adjacency list. Is there something in my code that is problematic? Also I'm unsure of how to go about the in and out degree
