I am not sure why I am getting this error. The code is not finished at all, but I am stumped on how to get past loading in the things from the text file. Here is my code:
import java.util.Scanner;
import java.io.File;
import java.io.IOException;
public class Hurricanes2
{
public static void main(String[] args)throws IOException
{
//declare and initialize variables
[code]...
It compiles fine, but when I execute it I get this.
I am trying to make a text based game. the game has been working perfectly setting up the rooms, first couple of commands, and running it. I am now trying to add items to it but every time it try to run the game it returns :
java.lang.NullPointerException at Room.addItem(Room.java:107) at Game.createRooms(Game.java:133) at Game.<init>(Game.java:28) at sun.reflect.NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance0(Native Method)

Here are the classes that matter for this particular situation
import java.util.HashMap; public class Item { private HashMap<String, Item> itemList; private String name; private String itemDescription;
[Code] ....
I know that it is the line
itemList.put(item.getItemName(), new Item(item.getItemName(), item.getItemDescription()));
In the game class that is causing the nullpointer exception i just really cant figure out why that keeps happening and how to add the values correctly....
how I can change my code so that somebody can actually input the specified file path, rather than having it fixed in the code. I previously used
Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.println("What is the filename?"); String input = in.nextLine(); File file = new File(input);
But then the program would not display the frequencies.
import java.io.File; import java.util.*; /* This program will allow the user to enter in a text file name, when prompted the program will anaylser the text and display the frequencies */ public class AssP { public static void main(String[] args ) { Scanner scan; try { Scanner scanner = scan = new Scanner(new File("C:/Users/Mary/workspace/Assingment/src/test.txt"));

This is my current code and I need to so the user can load their own files.
We have a custom authorization in our application login page, authorization by using eToken and java (signed jar classes) and applet as login button on page. It's work fine on older and current java versions like 7u67, 7u71 but it's not work on new java version 8u25.
We write a test class named AuthControl without package, we found that problem is in .jar file path, for example:
&APPLET_VERSION. is a jar file name, uploaded using "Shared Components / Static Files - Create"
<script src="https://www.java.com/js/deployJava.js"></script> <script> var attributes = {code:'AuthControl', archive:'#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#&APPLET_VERSION.', width:132, height:37}; // problem in the path to the .jar file var parameters = { scriptable:true, mode:'login' }; var version = '1.6'; deployJava.runApplet(attributes, parameters, version); </script>
Error is: ... java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: AuthControl at sun.plugin2.applet.Applet2ClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2ClassLoader.loadClass0(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2ClassLoader.loadCode(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2Manager.initAppletAdapter(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2Manager$AppletExecutionRunnable.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) basic: load: class AuthControl not found. ...
But if we use a direct path to the jar file, it's work fine without errors, example:
<script src="https://www.java.com/js/deployJava.js"></script> <script> var attributes = {code:'AuthControl', archive:'http://example.com/myapplet.jar', width:132, height:37}; var parameters = { scriptable:true, mode:'login' }; var version = '1.6'; deployJava.runApplet(attributes, parameters, version); </script>
If I have a comboBox full of id's - is it possible that when I choose said id (click it) it will then transfer over into my textField where I can use that as a prefix for my filename ...
(The file can be created just by having a name in the text field it doesn't need to already exists) ...
I have a program that reads lines of text, but some of the lines of text aren't applicable and break the program. I'd like to put a letter in front of the lines in the .txt file I want to use, such as a #.
I need to make an if loop that'll check for the first letter on the line being #, and use the line in the program if true and skip if false. I'm guessing a boolean variable would be useful here to be true or false depending on the presence of #, but I don't know how to only read the first letter of each line, how can I do this?
The game doesn't seem to be working but you can win by loading a winning saved game.
Hint: Remember that all numbers have a unique set of Prime Factors.
I have been struggling to solve this. The code is not in error. I am trying to load a winning file but unable to solve.
Here is the java code:
import java.math.BigInteger; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.HashSet; import java.util.Random; import java.util.Scanner; import java.util.Set; public class Main { static final int GAME_SIZE = 40; //Disk sizes go from 0->39 // Produce a list of the first N prime numbers

I'm using a PrimeFaces UploadedFile xhtml page to select a csv file to read and write using a managed bean (SuperCSVParser.java). The file is read and written to an entity class which then persists the data to a database. The application works fine if I specify a file path on the physical server and select a csv file on that file path. But for the production version I want the user to select ANY file name from ANY directory on their local system.
I know about the FacesContext methods and I've looked at some methods from the java.io File class. Most of these methods are about getting the path from the server, where I want to 'pass' the path String from the client machine to allow the uploaded file to go through. When I try with the below code I get:
java.io.FileNotFoundException: data.csv (The system cannot find the file specified)
I'd like to know what I'm doing as I prefer not to explicitly declare a path in the final app. I'm almost sure that's possible.
01. pickup the selected text file and read the line by line and output the text in to visual text pane.
what i did:.
01. I wrote code that read the text file and output in to jave console/ also some of the interface.
the code read txt file:
Java Code:
String fileName = "C:/Users/lakshan/Desktop/lawyer.txt"; File textFile = new File(fileName); Scanner in = new Scanner (textFile); while(in.hasNextLine()){
[code]....
so it will read any text file dynamically and output to the text pane in interface. I think scanner code must be execute after the select the file from the browser and set the scanned result in to variable. then later out put the var as string in some jswing component?
I'm supposed to write a GUI application letting the user enter a file on the text field and display its hex representation in a text area and vice versa.
Here's my code:

I am trying to read a text file into Java and split the text into tokens. Eventually I want to be able to count the number of instances of a specific word. However, at this point, when I run the file, all I get is the location of the file rather than the text in the file.
import java.util.*; import java.io.*; public class textTest3 { /** * Prints the number of words in a given file * * @param args * @throws IOException */
I'm doing an assignment for uni and have come across a small hiccup. What I'm trying to do is scan in a text file and read "commands" for it line by line, E.g:
Student Mary 12345 19 Student Joe 12346 19 Change Joe 19 20 Change Mary 19 20
So that lines that begin with the word "Student" indicate that I should create a new student file with that name, student ID, and age.
"Change" indicates that I should be changing the specified student's current age to the new age etc.
What I'm currently doing is something along the lines of this:
Scanner input = new Scanner(new FileReader(args[0])); String[] line; while (input.nextLine().startsWith("Student")) { line = input.nextLine().split("s+");
[Code] ....
The problem I'm having is that every second line seems to be getting skipped (because I'm calling nextLine() so much?) but I can't think of a way to "peek" at the first word of each line without advancing past it. Is there any way of doing this?
I am working on a project that requires me to build a database with random access file, representing products, the base product contains a name (about 30 characters), a price (double), and a quantity (integer). I have worked on this project for probably 15+ hours and have tried so many things and feel like I've barley made any progress...
The part i am really struggling with is taking the data from the text file and creating an object array with it using the product class. Once ive accomplished that, i have to use that data to create a random access file with the data.
Here is the base Product class that must be used to create the objects for the array.
public class Product { public String pName; public String stringName; public double price; public int quanity;
[Code] .....
And then here is the data from the text file that i must extract to use to create product objects.
These continue for about 40-50 entries, they are not separated by a blank line though i had to add those so it would display correctly, each entry is on its own line with name separated with spaces, then price after a comma, then quantity after the second comma.....

New to programming. Am supposed to create a program that reads a text file (of integers) and computes a series of computations on these integers. I don't have the code for the integers in my code yet, (i know how to do those), but am struggling getting the array to simply print in the print writer. I have the user select a text file, read the file with a scanner, and then save the computations done from my code into another file. specifically, the problem is as follows: Write a program that uses a file chooser dialog to select a file containing some integers. The file contains an integer N followed by N integers. The program then uses a file chooser dialog to let the user specify the name and location of an output file to write results to.The data written to the output file will be as follows
(1) The original list of N numbers from the input file, (2) The original list of N numbers printed in reverse order of how they appear in the input file. (3) The sum and average of these numbers, (4) The minimum of all the numbers, (5) The maximum of all the numbers.
I am new to java and I am creating a system that will ask the user to create a file that will store to a text file, Once the user created the file I have a class that will let the user input the subject name that has been created, However, I keep on getting this java.util.nosuchelementexception.Here's my code:
public void display_by_name() { String id, name,total; String key[]=new String[30]; String value[]=new String[30]; int i=0;
I am facing a problem while executing a task. My task is to make such a code which will search for my source code file (abc.java) in all directories and then displays the code in textarea inside frame and along with that i also have to display the path of the file in text field. I have coded something but i am really not getting anywhere near my task.
i have made one desktop application with swing and i have uses one textfile (File) in it. i want to handover to another friend to use it . How to create jar file of that program with that text file so that my friend use it without any issue . I have made it in NetBeans
