View RepliesI need to write the same data to stdout and to a save file. In C I'd do something like:
void doWrite(int fd, char *stuff) {
fprintf(fd, stuff);
}
if(someFlag)
doWrite(STDOUT, data[]);
doWrite(saveFd, data[]);
Google shows me how to use file I/O, and how to use stdio, but not how to combine the two easily.
With my *nix command line I could "program file | tee savefile", but savefile holds the result of prior runs, gets read before I parse 'file', and this command line zero's out savefile before the program can read it.
The data is standard ASCII, I doubt I'll ever have 20k of data.
My code below creates the 2 files successfully, but it is not able to write the sample data into the newly created file. I can't figure out the reason why.
Another strange thing is that when I tried inserting System.out.println calls for debugging, nothing prints out.
try{
// stuff here
}
catch(FileNotFoundException fileNF){
String dirString = System.getProperty("user.dir");
String defaultFile = "config";
String currentFile = "currentconfig";
Path filePath = Paths.get(dirString, defaultFile);
Path filePath2 = Paths.get(dirString, currentFile);

I'm trying to write data for three products to a random access file, but I have a problem. Each product has a code and a price. After writing them to my file, I want to get to the second field or product. I do this by getting the length for each record, and multiplying it by the field number I want to go to. I use the result for the seek() method of the RandomAccessFile object. It is giving me an EOFException, but when I use 0 for the seek method i get the data for the first poduct or field.
Java Code:
public static void main(String[] args) {
final int RECORD_LENGTH = 16;
try(RandomAccessFile productsOutput = new RandomAccessFile("C:UsersalfonsoDesktopBinaryTestRandom.ran", "rw")) {
String[] codes = {"java", "jsps", "txtp"};
double[] prices = {49.5, 19.9, 29.9};
for(int i = 0; i < codes.length; i++) {

Let's say if I want to create a dot file that print this graph in Java, how do i go about it?
I'm starting with this:
PrintWriter writer = new PrintWriter("graph.dot");
I want to create and write to a excel file from a java program. I found a tutorial online and wrote a java file as under:
Java Code: import java.io.File;
import java.util.Date;
import jxl.*;
import jxl.write.*;
public class jExcel{
WriteableWorkbok workbook = Workbok.createWorkbook(new File("output.xls"));
public static void main(String args[]){
WriteableSheet sheet = workbook.createSheet("First Sheett",0);
Label label = new Label(0,2,"A label record");
sheet.addCell(label);
[code].....
But when I compile this file, I get errors telling that package jxl does not exists and so on. Do I need to download it ?
I tried working with XML today, since that's what my book teaches. First, I read some data about Product objects that are suppose to represent products with a code, description, and price. That worked fine. Then, I tried creating a writeProducts(ArrayList<Product> products) method, and man it did not go well.
How it works is that there is an ArrayList instance variable in the class that keeps track of all of my products after the readProducts method returns that ArrayList from the XML file. When I ran the method I had a lot of stack traces printed. I then checked the file on a web browser and an editor, and saw it was completely empty. Here's the code:
import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.io.*;
import javax.xml.stream.*; // StAX API
public class XMLTesterApp {
private static String productsFilename = "products.xml";
public static void main(String[] args) {
System.out.println("Products list:");
[Code] ....
Java Result: 1
BUILD SUCCESSFUL (total time: 0 seconds) mh_sh_highlight_all('java');
On a side note, is it normal if almost everything I writer has to be debugged?
I am trying to create a second class in a single java file (first time trying this) and want to use data from the first class in the second class but I am not able to do it. What am I missing :
package simplecommissioncalculation;
import java.util.Scanner; // import java.util.Scanner
public class SimpleCommissionCalculation {
public static void main(String[] args) {

I need to copy a file from Windows folder to unix folder using Java

how to do it?
I am having some trouble with a Java program. I have a txt data file, which I will display, that I need to add into two separate arrays. The text file is 8 lines long that is supposed to go into two separate 4x4 matrices. A little background info on this program, reads in two arrays, compares them and outputs the largest elements of the same index and outputs them in a separate array. I somehow cannot seem to figure out how to do this. My code is below:
Data File:
2 7 6 4
6 1 2 4
9 7 2 6
8 3 2 1
4 1 3 7
6 2 3 8
7 2 2 4
4 2 3 1
Code:
public class prog465a {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner inFile = null;
try {
inFile = new Scanner(new File("prog465a.dat.txt"));
[Code] .....
i'm using eclipse Kepler to create J2EE project.i created student class which return list of information. how to access list in JSP page??
View Replies View RelatedI would like to create an ArrayList from data types stored in a text file.The ArrayList would be multidimensional with two data types; int, String.
Example text file could be:
4 cahiers grand format
3 stylots bic bleu
5 gommes
I find it very difficult for multiple data types i don't see how its possible.
We have an autosys job running in our production on daily basis. It calls a shell script which in turn calls a java servlet. This servlet reads these files and inserts the data into two different tables and then does some processing. Java version is 1.6 & application server is WAS7 and database is oracel-11g.
We get several issues with this process like it takes time, goes out of memory etc etc. Below are the details of the way we have coded this process.
1. When we read the file using BufferedReader, do we really get a lot of strings created in the memory as returned by readLine() method of BufferedReader? These files contain 4-5Lacs of line. All the records are separated by newline character. Is there a better way to read files in java to achieve efficiency? I couldnt find any provided the fact that all the record lines in the file are of variable length.
2. When we insert the data then we are doing a batch process with statement/prepared statement. We are making one batch containing all the records of the file. Does it really matter to break the batch size to have better performance?
3. If the tables has no indexes defined nor any other constraints and all the columns are VARCHAR type, then which operation will be faster:- inserting a new row or updating an existing row based upon some matching condition?
If I want to load data in excel file into table. what is the best way to do it?
View Replies View RelatedI am now stuck. I am writing a program that reads information from a data file and runs it through but program. However, I am almost finished with the program, but cannot figure out the last few parts.
public class Storm {

I have not attached the data file because it contains a total of 360 lines of hurricane information.
1. creates a file.
2. ask user to write into that file
3. save the file
4. print content of file.
Is my current exercise, so far i have gotten the code to create a file. What should i use to ask user to write into that file and save?
package assignment7;

public static void main ( String [ ] args ) {
String filePath="newfile.txt";
File newFile = new File ( filePath ) ;

i am fairly new to java but have made a few projects so i do know most aspects that would allow me to complete the task its just i have been stuck at the same place now for 2 days.The project is to create a java program that can read specific data within a csv file to work out the averages etc. The csv file is a database of different weather stats . an example of the first 12 months of the csv file is below..
[CSV FILE]
year ,month,average rainfall etc
1946 15.70.616108.131.5
1946 28.23.56111.871
1946 38.82932.9 102.9
1946 414.16.3029.2 150.5
1946 513.96060.7 143.6
[code]...
I know that once the data is indexed i can than use a double to find the average of the 12 specific pieces of data and so on. once this is complete i should than be able to transfer the data to a simple graph.
I would like to understand how does multipart/form-data works during file upload scenario's, Does it chunks the data from client to server while transferring the files ?
View Replies View RelatedBy using FileReader, FileWriter and their constituents, I am creating a file to contain employee information ( name, age, hours, etc. ). The user is to input all of the data on a single line and we were asked to implement StringTokenizer to assign that data to the file. I have never used the StringTokenizer before, but I have a rough idea how it is to function. I used pw.println to test what I have so far, now I would like to let the user build the initial file with the "first employees" of the company, and then view the file, and then go back and append new employee data to that same file. My question is, how can I take the user input as a StringTokenizer and add that to the file?
In the for loop below, I thought I would see if it would work, but it does not. The loop only executes once and does not allow me to enter data.
public class Records {
public static void main(String [] args) throws IOException {
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
FileWriter fw = new FileWriter("dbs3.java");
BufferedWriter bw = new BufferedWriter(fw);
PrintWriter pw = new PrintWriter(bw);
System.out.println("NEW EMPLOYEE DATA SHEET");
System.out.print("Number of new employees: ");
int number = input.nextInt();

I am trying to remove a line based on user input. myFile.txt looks like:
Matt
Brian
John
However when I enter "Brian" (to remove this line), It is deleted on the temp file (myTempFile.txt), but not renamed back to the original file (myFile).

I am creating a program where it reads the data inside a file and then places this data into arrays. The file I created has numbers 1-30 in it, file named, testing1.txt .
Java Code:
public static void main(String[] args) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
// Variables Declaration Section
//******************************
BufferedReader br;
String sCurrentLine;
String str;
[Code] ....
My issue is that the 'str' value is not initialized, but if I initialize it, it ruins the code. I'm not sure what to do in the situation.
I want to write an application which stores files inside of itself, like a Zip file, but it will not be a zip or have the zip compression class.
View Replies View RelatedI have created a program that allows a pizza shop to enter a customers orders (via 3 seperate panels of options), and calculate a total. Everything works just fine, and now we have to take it a step further and record the sale data in a .txt file (which will include the Crust Type, Toppings, and Extras).
I need to make it so that when a user clicks the calculate button, it also writes to a file (in this case, SalesRecords.txt). I have it all set up, but for some reason I can not get it to work. The error I get is:
"error: unreported exception FileNotFoundException; must be caught or declared to be thrown
PrintWriter outputFile = new PrintWriter(filename);
Here's my code: (the calculate button that I am working with is indicated by a comment)
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
import java.text.DecimalFormat;
import java.io.*;
import java.io.BufferedWriter;
[I looked up the exception I got, and just so everyone knows I made sure that the file "SalesRecords.txt" DOES EXIST. It is in the same folder as my java and class files for this program. I even tried defining the absolute file path for SalesRecords.txt and that changed nothing.
i start work with TxT files. And i need know how to write text in the next line if file exist. My code just last text replace new.. Here code :
Main :
package YoYo;
import java.util.Scanner;
public class Main {

static String FileName;

For a class, I'm making a prison system program. The prison has cell blocks, each cell block has cells, each cell has bed(s), and each bed has prisoners. There are also visitors and visits. I thought, rather than write all of those to different files, I could just write the entire prison to a file and make all the classes under it implement serializable. The instructor said that is a bad practice and we shouldn't do it. So I'm thinking I'll make the prison non-serializable. But the prison has maps of cell blocks, inmates, visitors, and visits. I think I'll make all those serializable and I'll also make everything a cell block contains serializable as well. Then I can just read the cellblocks from the file. But is that too easy as well? Is that a bad practice?
