Inserting Else Statement And Multiple Brackets At Various Places
Jan 16, 2014
I'm using this try statement to check for errors in input in my Tic Tac Toe game. The problem I have having is I don't understand why this error is happening. It's preventing my code from compiling. I've tried inserting an else statement and multiple brackets at various places with no success.
Java Code:
public void play(){
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
int row, col;
char currPlayer = 'X';

I'm attempting to format my doubles to two decimal places within my return statement. I have tried to use DecimalFormat but it gives me an error because my method needs to return a double and that results in a string being returned. I have also tried using the *100.00/100.00 method and that doesn't work when the number already ends in 0.
If I pass -150.00 it gives me -150.0 when I need two decimal places.
How can I go about doing this?

I am very new to threading. I have a program that calls my api and gets data back in json format. Each request returns a row of data in json format. All together I need to retrieve about 2,000,000 rows a day which means 2,000,000 requests (I understand that this is bad design, but the system was not designed for this purpose it is just what I need to do for the next couple of weeks). When I tried running it on a single thread I was processing about 200 requests a minute which is much too slow. As a result I created 12 threads and I was processing 5500 rows a minutes which was a great improvement.
The problem was only about on average 90% of the rows were inserted into the database as I ran it a few times to make sure. Before each insert printed to a file each URL which was sent and then I checked to see if each insert statement was successful (returned 1 when executed ) and it all seems fine. Every time I run it it inserts about 90% but it does varies and it has never been a consistent number.
Essentially the code starts in main by creating 12 threads. Each thread's creates a run method which calls a new instance of MySQLPopulateHistData and passes a start and end integer which are used in the insert statement for ranges. I have done many system.out.println type testing and can see all the threads do start and all the 12 instances (one instance for each thread) called are executing?

I have this very code:
if (minute > 35 && hosts < 1 && guests < 1)
In this if statement I would also like to add another two possibilities:
first would be: hosts < 1 && guests < 2
second would be: hosts < 2 && guests < 1
Is it possible to somehow add it so it can all be in included in one if statement, and it would look something like that:
if (minute > 35 && hosts < 1 && guests < 1 OR
minute > 35 && hosts < 2 && guests < 1 OR
minute > 35 && hosts < 1 && guests < 2) {}
.. ?

I am trying to execute the following method: This method takes a delivery date as one of the arguments and a list of calendar holidays as another argument. If the delivery date is present in the holiday list, I will add 1 day more to the delivery date and check again if the new delivery date is part of holiday list.
Issue is that the last 3 statements before 'return' are getting executed multiple times though there is no for or while loop. Why they are getting invoked multiple times.

private String fetchNextWorkingDay(String sDeliveryDate, Element eleCalendarDayExceptions, SimpleDateFormat sdf, Format formatter) throws Exception {
System.out.println("");
System.out.println("Inside fetchNextWorkingDay method");

At this moment in time my program compiles and runs as I want it to, but when I look at my code I see that my While Loops braces are placed inside my Try Block. When I move these braces outside of the Try Block, next to the WhileLoop, the program doesn't run like I want it to.
Likewise, when I place the While(answerIsCorrect) inside the Try Block, it doesn't work like I want it to either.
Also, my problem is on Lines 17 and 18.

I have spent the past 12 hours on it and have gotten no where. I need to create a program that will calculate different tax brackets. I have tried all combinations I can think of and can't get it to work!!! I am literally about to go insane! I need the program to calculate tax will be 1% for anything up to $50000. If the tax is over $50000, you keep that 1% of $50000 and then add the remaining. So for an income in the second range, it would be 1% of $50000, and then 2% of (income - $50000). This then continues for each range.
The problem I'm having is getting it to display the correct interest rates. I am not asking for you to write it for me. I want to learn. But at this point I have exhausted all resources available to me.
import java.util.Scanner;
public class Project3taxinfo {
public static void main(String[] args) {
final double RATE1 = 0.01; //1% tax on the first $50,000
final double RATE2 = 0.02; //2% tax on the amount over $50,000 up to $75,000
final double RATE3 = 0.03; //3% tax on the amount over $75,000 up to $100,000
final double RATE4 = 0.04; //4% tax on the amount over $100,000 up to $250,000
final double RATE5 = 0.05; //5% tax on the amount over $250,000 up to $500,000
final double RATE6 = 0.06; //6% tax on the amount over $500,000

I've been scanning forums for answers to this problem, but most deal with simple programming that you might find in a classroom (i.e. "System.out.printf") which will not work in the GUI I'm attempting to complete. Here's the tale of the tape:
The GUI is a price calculator I'm developing for my company that takes input from drop-down menus and several Jtextfields and calculates the answer based on the values contained within each. It's completely done (and functional), so I'd rather not change too much if at all possible. Because I'm dealing with decimal values then I'm getting 9 decimal places in the output JLabel, though. In order to display the answer, I'm using a series of "totalPrice.setText(..." declarations.
Because there is a fair amount of text and the values in the calculation are constantly changing, is there a way to 'simply' format the output JLabel to display only 2 decimals? Or is there an alternative solution that would work--say with a JTextfield instead--without having to completely re-code the calculator?

I am writing a simple learning program that does basic math. Everything is working as needed except for when it comes to division. I need to know if there is a way to format the users input to two decimal places and that when the program checks the users answer against the division, it gives it a yay or nay. Right now, it wants the answer out to 12 decimal places.
So for 5/3
I would like it to accept the answer 1.67
not 1.666666666667
Is there a way to do this?

Then, use what you have learned to produce a program to output the following table:
Blueville Monthly temperatures
jan feb mar apr may jun jul aug sep oct nov dec
3 3 5 10 16 20 24 23 16 10 5 3
Orlando Monthly Temperatures
jan feb mar apr may jun jul aug sep oct nov dec

The warmest month in Orlando is ________

I am working with a program I wrote for class. I got it to compile and do what I want, But I was wondering how I can format my methods to to display a decimal with 1-2 decimal places. Would I create a method in my NumberAnalysis class to do it for me? Or would I declare an instance of the DecimalFormat class in my main method?
import java.util.Scanner; //Needed for Scanner Class
import java.io.*; //Need for File and IOException
import java.text.DecimalFormat;
public class Ex8_11 {
public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException{
{
DecimalFormat decformatter = new DecimalFormat("#0.00");
[Code] .....
This is my output:
Lowest Number: 1.09
Highest Number: 82.76
Total Number: 367.89000000000004
Total Average Number: 30.657500000000002
Think I just solved the answer to my own question, I did it by declaring double variables in my main method and called the methods and instantiated the variables into the methods... Is there a better way to do this?
package lesson4.skowronek;
import java.util.Scanner; //Needed for Scanner Class
import java.io.*; //Need for File and IOException
