I have problem with writing objects to file. The thing i want to do is write object(Measur) and then read it from Notepad++. Not from program, but normally from computer. I am writing to a text file via user input and it is saving all the user input to the file but it is just printing one word per line. I would like it to print the string on one line and print the next string on the next line upon them hitting enter.

I have a quick polymorphism question. I have a parent class and a sub class that extends the parent class. I then declare an array of parent class but instantiate an index to the sub class using polymorphism. Do I have to have all the same methods in the child class that I do in the parent class? Here is an example of what I mean.

Currently my application is on Tomcat5.0.16.I use struts1.2, jstl 1.1 , jsp-api 2.0.I tried to migrate my application from tomcat5.0 to tomcat 6.0.26.I didn't see any issue in deployment but when i tried to access jsp pages i got this exception.

i found that jstl1.1 jar didn't have the above mentioned class.I replaced jstl1.1 with jstl1.2 jar.i verified that jstl1.2 jar had JstlCoreTLV calss.but even after this replacement of jar i am facing the same issue.
I have a list of uninstanciated class types and I wanted to call a static function from these "Class<? extends PropControl>" (without using reflection) that would create a new corresponding object instance but it appears I cant do that in java so now I want to create a factory that takes a class type as aparameter to create the corresponding object instance but this code dont compile:

So I am trying to write the output of two different java class files to one txt file while the program runs. The file name is determined before the program is ran, through the command prompt as arguments. How can I get the second class file to edit the same txt file without running into compile errors.
For right now I'm just going to send everything that the second file outputs to a message String variable, so that the Main class outputs to the the text file. I still want to learn how to write to the same text file directly from the second class file.

How do you declare methods for a class within the class whilst objects of the class are declared else where?
Say for instance, I have a main class Wall, and another class called Clock, and because they are both GUI based, I want to put a Clock on the Wall, so I have declared an instance object of Clock in the Wall class (Wall extends JFrame, and Clock extends JPanel).
I now want to have methods such as setClock, resetClock in the Clock class, but im having trouble in being able to refer to the Clock object thats been declared in the Wall class.
Is this possible? Or am I trying to do something thats not possible? Or maybe I've missed something really obvious?

I have a program that reads lines of text, but some of the lines of text aren't applicable and break the program. I'd like to put a letter in front of the lines in the .txt file I want to use, such as a #.
I need to make an if loop that'll check for the first letter on the line being #, and use the line in the program if true and skip if false. I'm guessing a boolean variable would be useful here to be true or false depending on the presence of #, but I don't know how to only read the first letter of each line, how can I do this?

I had to write a class called Thermometer, that has one instance variable (an integer) for the temperature in Fahrenheit. I had to include the following methods

Now I get to the issue. I have to write a test class called thermometer to test the thermometer class. I need to test each method while displaying the temperature after it. My professor said I should use the invoke method but didn't go into much more detail than that.
User-defined classes. The concept of getters and setters goes right over my head. Right now we're to write a program to test the Person class below. We have to create 2 instances of the class to test each constructor, and test each method.

I've looked at multiple sources and everyone is saying different stuff. Which one should I be using? FileWriter/FileReader, other people was saying PrintWriter, and one even said : "Formatter" which is the one I'm doubting mostly. I am creating a car simulator that simulators the odometer and fuel gauge on a car. I want to print the results to a text file but it seems to be printing only the last two lines instead of all of them. How can I make it so it doesn't overwrite the previous input?
