View RepliesI'm trying to write a program where a new window/frame is created when a certain key in entered, here F1. It doesn't seem to be working..
I've done it using JApplet. Here are the functions:
String msg="";
int X=10, Y=20;
public void init()
{
addKeyListener(this);
}
public void keyPressed(KeyEvent ke)

I just started to learn Java Swing and I was trying to make a program that puts 2 images into the Frame window. The code itself doesn't have any errors but when I compile it gives a nullpointerexception, I checked the line with the error and it had to do with my image file but I can confirm the name is correct and I tried both using the path and the name of the image in the package but neither is working.
Error message:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException

why this code doesnt work? Its suppose to be a simple frame with a button that puts text to the frame when u click it. The problem is actionPerformed method, when it tries to call the stuff inside the constructor it all goes wrong. I switched the method body with a system.out.println() and it all works fine.
import java.java.awt.Label;
import java.awt.Button
import java.awt.BorderLayout;
import java.event.*;
public class TheClass implements ActionListener {

I am modifying existing code to display graph after pressing calculate button. The graph pop ups in new controller/window. The pop up disappears after closing the application entirely. However I have trouble figuring out if it is possible to close that old/previous pop up and new pop up appears when calculate button is pressed again. Or at least reuse the pop up to display a new graph.
public class AdamCalculationApp extends AbstractCalculation {
/**
* Does a calculation.
*/
public void calculate() { // Does a calculation
control.println("Adam Calculation button pressed.");
double k = control.getDouble("k value"); // String must match argument of setValue
control.println("k*k = "+(k*k));
control.println("random = "+Math.random());

I am new to javafx I start using it instead of swing i used the scene builder for my forms the problem i faced i don't know how to have main screen with menu bar at top and depending the select from the menu it will open other windows and those window must be inside my window just like for example netbeans.
I don't need to open new window in separate i need all windows inside my main window and controlling over them minimize maximize perhaps.
Any way I can call an internal Frame in java by clicking a button in separate internal Frame to display in a panel in Main JFrame....

I am in the progress of updating my code and re-testing after switching from Java 6 to Java 7. When I open multiple JInternalFrames in my application under java 6 I am used to closing the top most internal frame and having the frame immediately under it become the next active frame. When I run the same code under Java 7 I see a different behaviour in as much as when I close the last frame I opened, the next one to become active is the first one.
To illustrate this another way, lets say I open 5 internal frames, 1,2,3,4 & 5
In java 6 when I close frame 5, frame 4 becomes the active frame.
In java 7 when I close frame 5, frame 1 becomes the active frame.
I am trying to make a 2d graphical animation using the java swing classes in order to make a frame. I had a basic version working when all of the code was under the main method, but when I moved some into another method it broke it. With y understanding of java my code should work as I create a variable of the method containing the code and then assign the size and exit button. However this causes many problems such as my BeaconFrame method informing me that it is unused when I have used it. Here is my code:
import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.*;
public class BelishaBeacon {
public void BeaconFrame() {
JFrame frame = new JFrame();
JPanel panel1 = new JPanel();

I'm trying to get my components to align in the proper position but I'm having no luck what so ever. I have my code and I've attached an image of my window builder.
Here's my code

import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
import javax.swing.JPanel;
import javax.swing.SpringLayout;

I am having the hardest time trying to figure out how to display an array in a 1-window GUI.
I can display 1 book separately, by basically ignoring the array and creating a new object for each book, but I need all 5 books to display in one window, and that's where I'm lost. I'd really like to use the arrayI built to generate the books in the GUI. The information of each book appearing horizontally, and the different books appearing vertically.
// Bookstore.java
// This program displays information on multiple books
/* Currency Formating Import */
import java.text.NumberFormat;
import java.util.Locale;
import java.util.Arrays;

So, Iv'e been trying to make a simple Text Based RPG with Java, and it is going quite well, and my friends want to play it too but they aren't very tech savvy, so it's hard to tell them to get an IDE or use the CMD, so I wanted to know if there was a way to make my text-based game into a window, like using JFrame or something. All i need is a window that displays the text, and a bar on the bottom that lets the user input what they want (Kind of like a CMD).
I want it sort of like this window: This Pic
Any way to get my Java window to open with a certain width and height. I've been googling and haven't found to much valuable information. Here is what I have so far.

public class JavaWindow{
//Bring up the frame.
private JFrame f = new JFrame("JavaWindow");

When you compile that it runs a small window. I would like that window to be bigger when the file opens.

How to save in array or arraylist when i click the jbutton
View Replies View RelatedThe gist of it is to create a very basic memory game. There are 12 buttons, each associated with an icon. Every button that you click will display the icon and will stay there until clicked again. I got the bulk of it taken care of, but my issue lies with switching the icons back and forth. I can get them to display one at a time, but when I click on a new button, all the icons except the button I just clicked don't display. Essentially, only one shows up at a time.

View Replies View RelatedI have a textbox called "answer" and 10 different buttons on a form. Now what i would like to do is click the button and have the Button Text in the textbox with the already present text.
So if i click the button 1 it should automatically recognize the clicked button and have its text copied to textbox.
I know the '.get' method but lets say i have 100 buttons so i cant repeat it for every single one of them.
answer.setText(answer.getText() + ___________________);
as there is a button on the website, that I need to click, but it returns a number using javascript that will access the page. Without that number, accessing the page won't work. Therefore, either I need to click the button, or return that data when I access the url. Here is the line in the html.

View Replies View RelatedNearly all of hte sample Java Applet is pre-made by the teacher. I'm running into the issue where, if I use the string arithmetic inverse method provided by the textbook, it refuses to recognize variables such as s1, s2, and i. So I'm now trying to use stringbuilder, and running into a similar issue. It doesn't recognize hte symbol "buffer". Under the "else if ( e.getSource() == inverseStr ) {" is where my code starts. The "Your Code Here" was put there by the teacher, and I'm just using it as an easy way to create blank lines if I delete a method that isn't working for me in the above section.

When I launch the applet in TextPad, there will be an Inverse button, and when I click that, it should reverse the word provided in the applet window, and show it in the inverse there. I had the StringBuilder working once, but it showed its result in a separate command prompt.

I have started coding recently and been working on a simple java timer. My problem is that the button does not show any response even though an action has been done via actionlistener.
Example: When I press the "Start Timing" button, it should start timing and output the counter to Static Timer but instead of doing that, it does nothing.
The important bits are under Timer code and Button Start Timing. Is their something that I'm missing?
