Java Game Errors - No Suitable Method Found For Intersect JButton
Apr 9, 2014
I am receiving two errors that I'm not sure how to fix. The first is illegal start of expression at line
"public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)"
and no suitable method found for intersect JButton at line
"if(blocker01.getBounds().intersects(r_wall))" .

I started learning mysql to connect my program to a database but every time i try to connect I get this error.

I did the following:
- added the mysql-connector-java-5.1.34 jar to my classpath
- added mysql jdbc driver to the project library
- double checked the url syntax and spelling errors
- checked that the server is running
import java.sql.*;

I have small Java code, which execute every day and checks for data in database using Cronj Schedular and everything works fine, but recently I have observed that, it is failing due to
java.sql.SQLException: No suitable driver found for jdbc:oracle:thin:@160.110.xx.xxx:1521/test
At the same time, when I run my test code to check Database connectivity that works fine without above exception. I'm unable to figure it out. Although, there was just slight code change, but that was nowhere related to Database or Database connection.
dbconf.java
public class dbconf {
private Connection connect;
private String connstr;
public Connection getConnection() throws SQLException {
connstr = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@160.110.xx.xxx:1521/test";

GodsEyeView gev = new GodsEyeView(g, m);
gev.initialRun();

playerGUI gui = new playerGUI(h);
gui.run();
gev.run();

I am new to Java and would like to ask how to do this question specifically:
Code a Java method that accepts a String array and a String. The method should return true if the string can be found as an element of the array and false otherwise. Test your method by calling it from the main method which supplies its two parameters (no user input required). Use an array initialiser list to initialise the array you pass. Test thoroughly.

I have a question about a method I have. In my game, I had a move method to move my player left and right, and originally this method was huge, as it also took care checking collisions and a few other things. I broke it up a bit and put the collisions in their own methods and call them from again another method... Here is an extract which I hope illustrates my point:
private static final double MOVE_SPEED = 0.2;
private static final double MAX_MOVE_SPEED = 3.5;
private static final double STOP_SPEED = 0.18;
private double xPos;
private double yPos;
[Code] .....
Something I thought might be a good idea is to check the direction collision when im doing the calculations for that direction:
if(moveLeft) {
dx -= MOVE_SPEED;
(dx < -MAX_MOVE_SPEED) {
dx = -MAX_MOVE_SPEED;
}
checkLeft();
}
But then I would also need to check it when I'm slowing down the left movement:
if(dx < 0.0) {
dx += STOP_SPEED;
if(dx > 0.0) {
dx = 0.0;
}
checkLeft();
}
Then I thought instead i can check it after both of these steps:
if(moveLeft || dx < 0.0) {
checkLeft();
}
I guess my question is quite general: How much is acceptable to break up a method? How many chains of method calls is acceptable? Is it ok to call the same method from different nearby places?

I am trying to use method calls with returns but it keeps on showing errors. The errors say class, interface, or enum expected. I realize this error occurs if there is issue with declaring class - but i can't seem to find the error. I will post the code that shows error.

import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
import java.text.*;
public class FuelCost extends JFrame
{
// declarations
Color black = new Color(0, 0, 0);

The error states:

public double calculateCostToFillTank()
^
C:UsersPriti BhattaraiDesktopCCAC JavaFuelCost.java:292: error: class, interface, or enum expected
return (averageMilesPerTank / milesPerGallonRating) * currentPricePerGallon;

I'm having trouble with sorting Strings- 3 strings inputted by user, and I would like to output them in alphabetical order. I've used the str.compareToIgnoreCase method, and then I've tried to loop them through a series of if/ else statements. Everything I've been able to find online (including the forums here) has suggested to use the Comparator class, or to put the strings into an array, and sort list- I really would like to stick with just the String class, and its methods .
The program itself works and compiles, but I am getting logic errors that I have been unable to solve. I'm using IntelliJ Idea, and I've ran it through the built in debugger, about 100+ times (not exaggerating, lol) just to see what it's doing in particular scenarios. For instance, I can get c, a, b, to print out as a,b,c correctly, but a,b,c, will print out as b,a,c.
For me this is kind of like a Sudoku puzzle, or a Rubik's cube! Each time I fix one scenario, it breaks another one, so I don't know if there's a(logic) solution to fix all possible scenarios (abc, acb, bac etc... to all print abc) or if possibly I just need more if statements. I've only pasted in the area where I'm having problems (the if statements). I'm a big fan of the "Next Line" syntax.
(Note: please assume the non relevant content- import Scanner class, main method, etc... I didn't want to paste the entire program.)
System.out.println("Enter the first statement: ");
//input.nextLine();
string1 = input.nextLine();
System.out.println("Enter the second statement: ");
string2 = input.nextLine();
System.out.println("Enter the third statement: ");
string3 = input.nextLine();
[Code] ....

I am currently working on a dice game. I have a private method called rollDice and it performs the action of rolling two dice. For my project, I need to create another method called playerRolls and I am supposed to invoke the rollDice method in the playerRolls method and perform actions based off of that. My question right now is how do I invoke a method into another method of the same class?

So I don't know whether this is an issue with my decompiler or my IDE. I have a jar game that is written/compiled in JDK 1.1 (45.3)
Now when I use a dissasembler and export the class I want to change to a .java(source) file I can edit it fine and dandy with BlueJ. The only problem is IT WONT RECOMPILE
Now this is completely odd I thought it might be that I changed something I wasn't supposed to so I tried it again on a fresh rip of the .java file. IT STILL WONT RECOMPILE
I'm not sure exactly what the problem is, whether the .class is getting truncated/changed when exported to .java OR whether my decompiler is funky... But it makes absolutely no sense that you can decompile an already existing .class file RECOMPILE it exactly UNCHANGED and it fails to recompile....
I only want to change a few lines so that the jar im using can use a touchscreen...

I'm working on a banking program that is supposed to use 3 classes (Account-base class, CheckingAccount, and SavingsAccount) and several methods to display the banking information (ID, balance after a withdrawal and deposit, and the annual interest rate). This should be a pretty simple program, but I'm getting hung up on one portion of it. I'm getting some compiler errors, all of which deal with non-static variables being called from a static context (I'll also post these errors following the code). Up until the middle of last week, we just declared everything as static, but that's changed and I'm having trouble figuring out when to and when not to use static when declaring my methods, hence the compiler errors.

public class Account {
private int id = 0;
private double balance = 0;
private double annualInterestRate = 0;
private Date dateCreated = new Date();

Not sure on why it is giving the exception.

I have written a java applet. Few months before It was working all fine but my client has some other requirements now and I have to edit it. I am getting two problems:
1. I could not execute it on my local computer as it always gives "your security settings have blocked a local application from running". I have edited the settings from Control Panel but it is then started giving permission error on including permission in manifest file it started giving trusted library error and still it is not resolved.
2. Can I know how to work with third party library with applets. I have imported the library and uses its few classes but when I tried to load applet it always give no class definition found error. I have some ways mentioned online like use comma separated names for all the jars but no luck so far.

Problem: On the form window, after pressing the button, it doesn't give any error and doesn't give any output. It doesn't reply and i have to stop compiling to exit. Why does the IDE do that, is it about my Java codes or Form Window codes ? ( I have two classes named Lexical.java and window.java. Working with Eclipse)
Details: I am working on a project that makes Lexical and Syntax analiysis of commands written in SQL Language. My form is in the attachment. If will be necessary i'll put my codes too.
