Apr 23, 2015I am advised to use a while loop the Scanner method hasNextLine() and in the while loop body, call the Scanner method nextLine(), and add the returned String to the ArrayList of Strings. what I have gotten so far:

Pizza Program For Java / Resetting Prices Does Not Function
Jul 26, 2014I am making a pizza program and most of the program works. I have made an order button that will output the total price of the order. The reset button that I made makes the JTextArea output $0.00, but if I press the order button to make another order, the program does not add the new amount to zero. For example, if I make an order that totals $5.00, but I want to make another order after resetting, the price for the new order will be added on to the previous order's price.
Here is the code. This is a JApplet program. Why the price will not reset? This code was made in BlueJ.

Sorting Array Of Strings From User Input
Apr 3, 2015I am working on an assignment where I initially have to take as input a number. That number will be the number of strings the user is going to type. As they are typed, they are to be sorted alphabetically, then printed. It took me a while to get this far, and I am stuck on how to properly invoke the other methods in main. There has to be at least three methods: main, one to do the sorting, and one to print the new array. I'm quite sure there are mistakes in my code, but this is definitely a challenge for me. Here is the code. Keep in mind that the methods being invoked are blank on purpose.
I am not allowed to use the Arrays, Arraylist or Collection class. This is basically to test my ingenuity and to see how arrays actually work.

Function Calling In A Program?
Feb 12, 2015I just wanted to ask that when we invoke a function by passing certain arguments in it ,so for instance I have certain variables like a,b and c with some values assigned to them,so when I invoke a function like func(a*b , 8, c+a) where the function func accepts parameters like func(int x,int y,int z) ,so is there any order of evaluation of expressions defined like the value of c+d would be evaluated first and then assigned to variable z ,because in C we have sequence points and since comma when acting like a separator is not a sequence point so any of the expression can be executed first ,so basically is there any sequence in which the function arguments are assigned to the parameters of the function or any relation with the stack implementation.
Even in C ,the printf starts executing its expressions from right to left so basically in why does it happen there when comma is a separator in a function argument.
If Statement - Checking / Comparing Two Strings From User Input
Dec 7, 2014I am trying to do is get a user to input their name into the system. Once the user has inputted the name into the system, the system should check to see if the name entered matches "alice". If this is true then the system should print "welcome to the system alice". If it is not alice it should not do anything.

Write Java Program That Asks User For List Of Names?
May 21, 2015I am trying to write a java program that asks the user for a list of names (one per line) until the user enters a blank line. At that point the program should print out the list of names entered, where each name is listed only once (i.e., uniquely) no matter how many times the user entered the name in the program. I am supposed to use an ArrayList for this problem.
My idea for a solution is to create an ArrayList<String>, read each name, i.e., line, entered and then to see if that name is already in the ArrayList. I created a for loop to check each element in the ArrayList but when I try to assign an element to a string variable I get the error "Type mismatch: cannot convert from Object to String". Not sure why that is happening because the ArrayList is defined as a String list.

How to create and call an array that the user defines the size of and then inputs the numbers to fill the array. Here's the example my prof gave us of what the output should look like:

How to create an array that would allow the user to define the size of the array and then inputs the values for the array? I'm completely lost. I never should have taken java as an online class.

Apr 22, 2015I'm writing a command line application of a calculator in Java. I need to be able to (as per program requirements) split the array of strings (6+3) into an array of strings? How would that be done? I know you can use the split method, but I am not really sure how that wold work to perform math with them?
On a side note: for this application, how could you make the program accept a variety of different lengths of strings to perform math with them?
