I do now have the problem where i have to insert the numbers 1 to 100 individually in order to allow the program to accept a grade as high as 100%.
Also as soon as i type in a negative number the system crashes and shows me a error as attached.
/*
Averaging grades
To use the Java Swing interface to calculate the average of up to 50 grades.Average is calculated once -1 is entered as a value. The grades are then sorted from lowest to highest and displayed in a content pane which also displays the average.

Ok so I have my program working for the most part. In this program I am supposed to take input from the user until they enter a negative number and that works, the problem is that it doesn't work if I enter a negative number on the first prompt. For example if I enter a 100 it would prompt me again and if I enter a negative number it would quit and give me the average, but if I enter a negative number the first time I am prompted the program just gives me an error. How do I fix that?
import java.util.List;
import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.util.Scanner;
public class Application {
public static void main(String [] args){
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
List<Integer> grades;

I've made a simple program in Java (Eclipse) that converts Fahrenheit to Celsius.The class is:
Java Code: package ehu.student;
public class ConversorTemperaturas {
/*--------------------------------------------------------------*/
/*Clase que dado una temperatura en Fahrenheit la canvierte en C*/
/*--------------------------------------------------------------*/
public float farenheit2celsius (float d){
float celsius, aux;
[code]...
When I write t.farenheit2celsius(25.6), appears the following error: "The method farenheit2celsisus(float) in the type ConversorTemperaturas is not applicable for the arguments (double)"If i change in the class the type float for double there is not problem. Why can't i use the type float?

Write a program that translates a number between 0 and 4 into the closest letter grade. For example, the number 2.8 (which might have been the average of several grades) would be converted to B. Break ties in favor of the better grade; for example 2.85 should be a B. Use a class Grade with a method getNumericGrade. why when I type .3 it tells me "Exception in thread "main" java.util.InputMismatchException" Or if there is an easier way to do this.
import java.util.Scanner;
public class Grades {
public static void main(String [] args) {
System.out.println("Enter a number between 0 and 4");
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
[code]....

Write a Swing program that declares an empty array of grades with a maximum length of 50. Implement a JOptionPane input box within a while loop to allow the user to enter grades. When the user enters the sentinel value of -1, that will signal the end of the data input loop.
After the grades are entered, a content pane should display the grades sorted from lowest to highest. Write a loop that goes through the array looking for elements that are greater than zero (0). Keep a running count of those items, and also accumulate them into a grand total. Divide the grand total by the number of grades entered to find an average, and display the average at the end of the sorted list of grades. Use the DecimalFormat method to display the average to 2 decimal places.

I'm trying to figure out the correct way to replace number into letter. In this case, I need two steps.
First, convert letter to number. Second, restore number to word.
Words list: a = 1, b = 2, f = 6 and k = 11.
I have word: "baafk"
So, for first step, it must be: "211611"
Number "211611" must be converted to "baafk".
But, I failed at second step.
Code I've tried:
public class str_number {
public static void main(String[] args){
String word = "baafk";
String number = word.replace("a", "1").replace("b","2").replace("f","6").replace("k","11");
System.out.println(word);
[Code] ...
Result for converting to number: baafk = 211611
But, result for converting above number to letter: 211611 = bkfk
How to distinguish if 11 is for "aa" and for "k"? Do you have any solutions or other ways for this case?

here is what I have so far and I cannot get anything to output.

Write a java program that will ask a user to input grades until the user inputs the sentinel value -1. The program should test each input to determine whether 0<=grade<=100. If the grade entered is within this range, the program should print "Grade accepted;" if not, the program should print "Invalid input".

I got a phone number problem. I get a list of phone numbers and a word file containing words, how could I need to see if I could match the phone number to 7 letter words, then see if I can match the first 3 numbers to 3 letter words and then the last 4 numbers to 4 number words. I figured all that out so far. The last part of this assignment is to see if I could match a combination of words together to match the phone numbers.
Example:
531 3259

where to create the array of chars that hold the letter grade. I am assuming that would be in the main with the other arrays. Passing it into an object creating a method in the record.java. Then displaying it in my main.
Take the Grades program and make a class. An object that hold 5 student names, an array of 5 chars that hold the letter grades, 5 arrays of four doubles each to hold the set of test scores. The class should have methods that return a specific student's name, average test score and a letter grade based on the average. Demonstrate the class in a program that allows the user to enter each student's name and their 4 tests scores. It should then display each student's average and letter grade.This is my main program:
import java.util.Scanner;
public class GradeBook{
public static void main(String[] args){
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
Record[] students = {new Record(), new Record(), new Record(), new Record(), new Record()};
for(int j=0; j < 5; j++){

I'm required to write a program that allows the user to enter up to 10 integer grades into an array. Stop the loop by typing in ‐1. Your main method should call an Average method that returns the average of the grades.I There's something wrong with my program , the count always stays 0 and the sum is always 1 less than the actual sum.Sample input and output :
Enter grade 1: 8
Enter grade 2: 9
Enter grade 3: 10
Enter grade 4: 5
Enter grade 5: 8
Enter grade 6: 9
Enter grade 7: -1
output
Average grade is 8.1666666667On line 13 I had count=count+1 ;

I have a problem with functions connected to strings.
I have a random String, e.g. "Hello World!" and I have to change every capital Letter into a small letter and vise versa. This alone would be fairly simple, but I have to do it with two other strings.
lowercase= "abcde...z" and
uppercase="ABCDE...Z". Every small letter stands at the very same position as the capital letter, but in the other string.
There should be a letter for letter search in lowercase and uppercase for the letters of "Hello World".
How I could solve the task, however I need a way to search the first string, here "Hello World", according to position. A statement which does: "Give me the letter of position x". This found letter should be able to be stored in a variable or else be able to be used by another statement. And it should be compatible with a for lope.
