I am writing a program for my college class that does the following:
Reads a text file that consists of words from a-z. The content read from the file is displayed in the JTextArea, while the user can filter the search results based on what they input. For example, if the user enter's "a" then the JTextArea is updated with all words that start with the letter "a" only. Also the user can enter a substring or the whole word and the respective result will be only the words that match the user's input.
The Problem and question I have is what would be the best way to go about filtering a file of about 27,000 words based on user input. I tried using an arraylist but the problem is it took forever to update the JTextArea, which is not good. Also I am new to using JSwing so I may not be aware of a component that would make this easier.
Here is the code:
Note: the question lies within the actionPerformed method.
Project is due before midnight eastern time (3 more hours). I have been working on this all day, we have not learned arrays or anything and just started 'for' loops. I don't really know how to implement that system yet. However, he wants us to check all the possible handwritten math ways of doing this. I have tried but I cannot return my numbers beside the card.my program only prints the type and I still have more cases to add as well..
QUESTION: Write a Java program that reads 5 integers, each of which is in the range of 1 and 13 representing a simplified poker card with no suit. Your program should then print the ranking of the hand with card number(s) beside the ranking. The rankings to determine are Four of a Kind(4 of the 5 cards of the same rank), Full House(3 of the 5 cards of the same rank, and 2 cards of another rank), Straight(5 cards of sequential rank), Three of a Kind(only 3 cards of the same rank), Two Pair(2 cards of the same rank, 2 cards of another rank, and no card of either rank), One Pair(only 2 of 5 cards are of the same rank), and High Card(no two cards of the same rank). Some sample runs are:
input: 2, 3, 2, 2, 2; output: Four of a Kind(2) input: 2, 3, 2, 3, 2; output: Full House(2, 3) input: 2, 3, 4, 5, 1; output: Straight(5) input: 1, 13, 11, 10, 12; output: Straight(1)
Write a Java program that reads a positive, non-zero integer as input and checks if the integer is deficient, perfect, or abundant.
A positive, non-zero integer, N, is said to be perfect if the sum of its positive proper divisors (i.e., the positive integers, other than N itself, that divide N exactly) is equal to the number itself. If this sum is less than N, the number is said to be deficient. If the sum is greater than N, the number is said to be abundant.For example, the number 6 is perfect, since 6 = 1 + 2 + 3, the number 8 is deficient, since 8 > 1 + 2 + 4, while the number 12 is abundant, since 12 < 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 6.
I am trying to make a java code that reads in lines of text and returns the number of spaces in each line.I think i have made it but i can not compile it..
Here is my code:
class Mainh { public static void main( String args[] ) { System.out.print( "#Enter text : " ); String text = BIO.getString(); while ( ! text.equals( "END" ) )
I'm currently learning Java and have been set an assignment that requires me to do the following:
Write an application that reads in a line length followed by individual lines containing text. No input line will be longer than the read in line length. In the text lines each word will be separated by a single space. The lines of text to be reformatted and then output so that the output lines of text have straight left and right margins. The last printing character in each line will be at character position (line length). In the text output the character '.' is to be used to represent the space character.
I'm trying to take this task on, but I'm unsure as to what exactly I'm supposed to do with part of it. For one of the methods I need to "work out how many extra spaces will need to be added to make the line width characters long.", how would I go about doing this?
a. Assume that we have a list of employees' names of a company and their ages. Write a program that reads from the user several lines of input. Each line includes an employee's name and his/her age (as an integer). The program should calculate and print the following:
- The average age of all employees (rounded to 2 decimal places). - The oldest employee and his/her age.
Hints:
You could assume that the user will insert valid data and at least one employee. You could assume that the oldest employee is only one person. User could stop the program via entering the word "end" as an employee's name.
Sample Input and Output: In each line, insert an employee's name and his/her age To halt the program, insert "end" as an employee's name
Adam 30 Tom 41 Ted 45 Karl 30 end
The average age of all employees is 36.50.The oldest employee is Hisham whose age is 45
I am working on a project that requires me to build a database with random access file, representing products, the base product contains a name (about 30 characters), a price (double), and a quantity (integer). I have worked on this project for probably 15+ hours and have tried so many things and feel like I've barley made any progress...
The part i am really struggling with is taking the data from the text file and creating an object array with it using the product class. Once ive accomplished that, i have to use that data to create a random access file with the data.
Here is the base Product class that must be used to create the objects for the array.
public class Product { public String pName; public String stringName; public double price; public int quanity;
[Code] .....
And then here is the data from the text file that i must extract to use to create product objects.
These continue for about 40-50 entries, they are not separated by a blank line though i had to add those so it would display correctly, each entry is on its own line with name separated with spaces, then price after a comma, then quantity after the second comma.....

New to programming. Am supposed to create a program that reads a text file (of integers) and computes a series of computations on these integers. I don't have the code for the integers in my code yet, (i know how to do those), but am struggling getting the array to simply print in the print writer. I have the user select a text file, read the file with a scanner, and then save the computations done from my code into another file. specifically, the problem is as follows: Write a program that uses a file chooser dialog to select a file containing some integers. The file contains an integer N followed by N integers. The program then uses a file chooser dialog to let the user specify the name and location of an output file to write results to.The data written to the output file will be as follows
(1) The original list of N numbers from the input file, (2) The original list of N numbers printed in reverse order of how they appear in the input file. (3) The sum and average of these numbers, (4) The minimum of all the numbers, (5) The maximum of all the numbers.
i have made one desktop application with swing and i have uses one textfile (File) in it. i want to handover to another friend to use it . How to create jar file of that program with that text file so that my friend use it without any issue . I have made it in NetBeans
I'm working on a project for my Java class and I've got the code compiled and running, I just don't think that the program is reading the text file the way I want it to.
The first number being product number, second being price, and 3rd being quantity. I want to be able to enter the product number and have the Textfields for price and quantity be filled accordingly.
But when I enter a product number (e.g., '1168') no match for the item is being found, regardless of what I enter. Really stumped on this. Here's my code so far --
I have to write a program for sorting an array of random numbers by the users choice. These random numbers are stored in a text file, which the user inputs, and is then stored into an array for sorting. I won't have a problem with the sorting algorithms, but I've never had to read a text file and store it into an array before
The text file has the numbers stored like so : 148 626 817 4 312 652 643 etc....
I gather that I'll probably have to user the Scanner for the user to input the text file name, but how do I store it to an array? So far I only have the bones of the program done, like so
import java.util.Scanner; public class SortingAlgorithms { public static void main(String[] args) {
I am trying to read in lines of text from a file then prints out the text. I only need one 2D array and can't copy from one array to another.This how the file looks like:
4 4 FILE WITH SOME INFO
I have been able to read the file but when I am trying to run my program I have blank spacing instead of an array.
import java.util.Scanner; import java.io.*; public class Array { public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException{
I have to write a gui program where I can enter a file name and then it gets displayed in a text area when I click Open. Conceptually, I do not get this. I was thinking of appending the text file into a string or something, but I guess I'm confused on how it all works and how I can open the text file. Not asking for the code, but just a compass or something.
This has three different classes in a package and the program itself is supposed to read and perform operations obtained from a txt file. However, I'm not even sure how to get it to perform the operations from the text file. I know that it can read the file as I was able to get the program to print the text found in the file when I ran the program with a test print to make sure that all content was being read. However, I am clueless when it comes to how to get the program to look at the text as commands.
Here is the piece of code that I am not sure where to go from as far as telling the program to read the text and perform the tasks listed.
public static void doTVoperations(){ File operations = new File("operations.txt"); if(operations.exists()) try{ Scanner n = new Scanner(operations); while(n.hasNext()){ String readOperations = n.nextLine(); String [] command = readOperations.split("[ ]"); } n.close(); } catch (FileNotFoundException e){ System.out.print("Error...TV in need of repair!"); }
i am trying to write a program in which the user will select a text file(which contains information that the graphical output will be based). I have successfully set up my file chooser however when i select the text file,i do not get any graphical out put. please see attached .zip file for code.
I have a simple txt file, each line simply containing 1 word.I would like each work to represent an index of the array..im having some difficulty populating an array from either a txt file or a scanner.i seem to be able to fill the scanner so to speak with the contents of the text file but not the array. I don't know how to syntax it
import java.io.File; import java.io.FileNotFoundException; import java.util.Scanner; import java.util.Arrays; public class ReadFile public static void main(String[] args) {
I am trying to read numeric values from a text file into an array. This is what i have so far but when i compile it, it doesn't run and give me a result.
import java.io.File; import java.io.FileNotFoundException; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.PrintWriter; import java.util.Scanner; public class question2_17110538 {
I working on a bank program that gets a user id, name and balance from a text file. I need to be able to sort based on each field. I'm using Collection.sort and Comparator. I'm using String[] array = file.toFile().list(); to get the values for the array from the text file. I can't figure out how to make this into an arraylist. I understand the concept when hardcoding the data but having trouble doing it from a text file.
I'm trying to figure out the necessary code for reading integers from a text file, then placing them withing the two-dimensional array I have created, and then finally printing the array using a nested for-loop. I have attached the file I would like to read from. I'm having trouble figuring out how to reference the text file with the integers, and also how to properly create a dynamic preface for each row of the array. I want the preface to display as "Week #: ", with # being the row number. I tried to create an integer to be used that way, but NetBeans tells me whatever integer I declare has already been defined in method main. I know I need to use scanner to read the file. I would like the output to display like this:
