Method That Returns Positive / Negative Or Zero Depending On Sum Of Two Variables?

I'm taking a class in object oriented programming and we have a task to write a method that returns positive, negative or zero depending on the sum of two variables.
I've had a go at it and i've got to a certain point but i'm struggling to get past this on error - return outside method.

I have a problem where I am trying to re arrange the values in an array from negative to positive. I have it re arranged but I cannot figure out how to re arrange them in numerical order. I have to use O(n) and O(1) operations.

I am trying to make a method that generated a random number between two values that can be negative or positive.
So:

would give one of these: -0.2, -0.1, 0, 0.1, 0.2

And, the operations must be done by adding or subtracting characters directly. You are not allowed to convert these strings to numbers before the operation.
The program must use a "Number" class which includes at least the following methods:

Number add (Number RHS);
Number subtract (Number RHS);
String toString ( );
This is what i have but it only adds positive numbers and it doesn't subtract problems like 7.05-8.96. Also some of it was what our teacher gave us like alignwhole method

Create an integer array with 10 numbers, initialize the array to make sure there are both positive and negative integers. Write a program to generate two arrays out of the original array, one array with all positive numbers and another one with all negative numbers. Print out the number of elements and the detailed elements in each array.

I am 4 weeks into my Intro to Java course and I am having a bit of trouble with my code. I need to make a program that will take a user inputted number, space the numbers out, then add them to a total sum. What I am having a hard time with is when I enter a negative number. I can't figure out what I need to do to have my program ignore the "-" in the string.

I have to write a method called censor that gets an array of strings from the user as an argument and then returns an array of strings that contains all of the original strings in the same order except those with length of 4. For example if cat, dog, moose, lazy, with was entered, then it would return the exact same thing except for the words with and lazy.
Currently, my code so far just prints [Ljava.lang.String;@38cfdf and im stuck.

I need to create a method that returns a new array containing the componentwise sum of its arguments(if length is the same). For instance, if the input arrays are {0,1, 2} and {2, 2, 3} then the output is {0+2, 1+2, 2+3}, i.e. {2,3,5}.If the input arrays have different numbers of elements, the method should return null.

I am trying to use method calls with returns but it keeps on showing errors. The errors say class, interface, or enum expected. I realize this error occurs if there is issue with declaring class - but i can't seem to find the error. I will post the code that shows error.

The getGraphics() method in my constructor is returning a nullPointerException and I can't figure out why. This class is extending a JPanel and I thought calling super() would fix it because it makes sense that the JPanel would initialize its graphics object in the constructor, but that didn't fix it. The line that produces the error is in bold. I've narrowed it down to the getGraphics() method is returning null, so the next line that calls the graphics object is actually the one that produces the error.

I am trying to write out a program that takes numerical input from the user and converts it to a date using the English month name. I am experimenting with the method of a "switch" statement without using the "break" clause. However, I seem to be missing something, as Eclipse is telling me I have a syntax error with my block. This is what I have to create : Write a method that returns the largest object in an array of objects. The method signature is:

All the objects are instances of the java.lang.Comparable interface. The order of the objects in the array is determined using the compareTo method.
Write a test program in the main method that creates an array of ten Strings, an array of ten Integers, and an array of ten java.util.Dates, and finds the largest string (i.e. in the alphabetical order), Integer, and Date in the arrays.
Name your java class Max and your java file Max.java.

Now that I have figured out how to return a single variable from a method I am on to the next step, I need to return 2 or 3 variables from a method. I have searched the internet on how to do this to no avail (am I doing the wrong search? I do not know) but what I need to do is return a second (and eventually a third variable)
