View RepliesI have a question and wasn't able to find what I needed through the search. I am currently using Netbeans 8.0 and working on a desktop app. I have a main GUI file where I am going to add a menu item that can be clicked to open up an "About" Dialog box. The problem is, I don't know how to do this
The file are...
MainGui.java
About.java
How would I go about opening the About.java when clicking on a menu item? I tried using...
new About();
About.setVisible(true);
But this just gave a compilation error.
I found different ways to code this for a button named "closeButton":
- closeButton.getRootPane().setDefaultButton(closeButton);
- thisDialog.getRootPane().setDefaultButton(closeButton);
- SwingUtilities.getRootPane(closeButton).setDefaultButton(closeButton);
Which is best?
I'd like open a second GUI when I press a button that's on the first GUI, like a link in a website.
What I want to do is:
1- Open GUI_1;
2- Press a button on GUI_1; this button close GUI_1 and open another GUI (GUI_2).
How can I do it?
I want to create a button bar that is the same as the confirmation dialog button bar -- so an OK and cancel button layed out in the platform specific way, and with the same styling.
I have made some progress via a hack -- create an alert dialog, and extract the buttons in the dialog using lookupButton, and then put those buttons in a toolbar. But this doesn't necessarily get a toolbar with the buttons in the correct order. If I could get the button bar out of an alert dialog I would have a solution, but I can't see to do that.
I'm using java FX-8 and JDK 1.8,Netbeans 8.0.2.I want to open pdf on button click in my JavaFXML Application.I have triued pdf viewer plugins and iText but it doesn;t work.I have to pass variable value in pdf too.

I have a bookings table where customers can view their bookings and in the table there is a button with a command button that onclick goes to the dialogue to display the variable petUpdate value but if you have 2 bookings then all the update buttons display the value of the last petUpdate in the arrayList.
DataTable with the button
<p:dataTable
id="bookingTable"
var="customerBooking"
value="#{booking.sessionBookingList}"
editable="true"
style="margin:0px 0px 20px 100px;font-size:15px;width:600px;"

Code in the above datatable.......The commented out output label displays the correct value for each but when the button is clicked the dialog only displays the last ones value
<p:column headerText="Check Updates" style ="width:50px;">
<!-- <h:outputLabel value="#{customerBooking.petUpdate}"></h:outputLabel> -->
<p:dialog header="#{customerBooking.petName}'s Status" widgetVar="dlg1" minHeight="60" minWidth="60" maxWidth="60">
<h:outputText value="#{customerBooking.getPetUpdate()}" />
</p:dialog>
<p:commandButton value="?" onclick="PF('dlg1').show();" style ="width:40px;">
</p:commandButton>
</p:column>
What would be the simplest way of creating a Dialog that can add TextField dynamically based on whether a radio button option from the dialog box is selected. I thought of JOptionPane.showMessageDialog and adding a JComponent though I would not be able to add a TextField on the fly and I would not be able to add ActionListeners. The dialog would initially contain some radio buttons, labels and textfields.

The gist of it is to create a very basic memory game. There are 12 buttons, each associated with an icon. Every button that you click will display the icon and will stay there until clicked again. I got the bulk of it taken care of, but my issue lies with switching the icons back and forth. I can get them to display one at a time, but when I click on a new button, all the icons except the button I just clicked don't display. Essentially, only one shows up at a time.

View Replies View RelatedI am creating a mad libs type program. This section of code is for the user to be able to make their own mad lib template (that people will be able to fill out later). The normal blanks in a mad lib are for verb, noun, adjective, adverb, etc. I cam up with 13 or so of these buttons, but it would be nice that if the user wants to add a button that they think we missed, such as 'Person in the Room' or 'Silly Location'...that the user would be able to do this. I sort of pictured there being a button that says 'add button' or something like that. Is there a ways to do this with the way I've set things up?
public class MadLibs {
public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException {
////////////////////
//TEXT PANE WINDOW//

//Set up a JTextPane object : The JTextPane is a specialized form of the JEditorPane
//designed especially for the editing (and display) of styled text.

1. In jsp 1 , i have 3 checkboxes(chkbox1,chkbox2,chkbox3) , if i select check boxes (chkbox1, chkbox2), and click on submit, corresponding two text fields (chkbox1,chkbox2) will have to appear in the next jsp i.e., jsp 2.
2. In jsp 1 , i have 3 checkboxes(chkbox1,chkbox2,chkbox3) , if i select check boxes (chkbox2, chkbox3), and click on submit, corresponding two text fields(chkbox2,chkbox3) will have to appear in the next jsp i.e., jsp 2.
Like this, which ever checkbox i select, corresponding text fields should appear in the subsequent jsp.
This is the code I have written so far. This program calculates tax from multiple tax payers.
import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
public class CalcutateTax
{
public static void main (String [] args)
[code]....
The problem is I cant think how to ask the use if he wants to calculate tax due for another taxpayer. If the user says yes, keep calculating, otherwise exit from the program. And how do I keep count of how many people got their tax calculated? Say for example,
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog (null, " We calculated tax for " + xnumber + " number of people.");
This is the question asked on my assignment ask the user if he wants to calculate the tax due for another taxpayer if so, do it again.At the end of the main method, output a message in a dialog box that says: Hello, We calculated taxes for [number of taxpayers].replace [number of taxpayers] with the actual number of taxpyers you calculated taxes for.
i am using a frame over which i am loading a dialog. The singleton dialog holds a progress bar. I have created my own swing worker. i am controlling the construct method of swing worker(which functions like doInBackground method).I am trying to call hidedialog from an external file. The dialog gets stuck sometimes. How do i solve it . It works fine on win7 but fails on win8.
public class LoadingProgressDialogSingleton extends com.manu.scpoweb.common.ds.client.swing.dialog.Dia log {
protected static LoadingProgressDialogSingleton oneAndOnlyProgressDialog = null;
JProgressBar progressBar = null;

I am in my first Java class and this is the second assignment. I am supposed to write a program that prints a table of squares and cubes and also uses dialog boxes for the input and the output. The output should look like this:
0 0 0
1 1 1
2 4 8
3 3 27
. . .
. . .
. . .
10 100 1000
I've figured it out but my only problem is the output dialog box displays each row individually (a new dialog box pops up for each row). How do I get it to display the whole table???Here's my code:
Java Code: import java.util.Formatter;
import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
public class Homework2 {
public static void main(String[] args) {

View Replies View RelatedIts that very old question regarding hashcode and equals implementation which i am not getting .
import java.util.*;
public class MyElement {
public static void main(String a[]){
HashSet<Price> lhm = new HashSet<Price>();
lhm.add(new Price("Banana", 20));
lhm.add(new Price("Apple", 40));
[Code] .....
In the above program even if i comment out the Hashcode method , i believe it is still taking the memory address values from the native hashcode method of Object class. but the equals override implentation says that i have two insertions which are same . So as per my logic it should not allow the duplicate element to enter.but its not so ...the duplicate element is well inserted without hashcode .
How to implement GridLayout. In my applet, I want to make a grid of 2 rows and 2 columns. In each grid I want to add a Label and a TextField. I want the background to be red.
So my code would be?
import java.awt.*;
import java.applet.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
public class GridLayoutApplet extends Applet implements ActionListener{
// construct components
Label fNameLabel = new Label("First Name");
TextField fNameField = new TextField(20);

I have read about panels and frames but, it is all confusing to me. How can you add a label and a TextField to one square of the grid?
Not necessarily Java related, more a general programming issue I have come a long and I am currently using java to mock up a project that will eventually get moved over to C++.
I am trying to implement FFT Convolution into a java project and have things partially working, I do not know if it is a coding issue, logic issue or if I simply know nothing of FFT and convolution.
For starters I got an FFT library that I do have working, if I create a small array pass it into the forward FFT, do a little bit of bit manipulation (converting a complex array of size n*2 into a re[] and im[] of size n), run the inverse FFT and do the same bit manipulation again I get back where I started.
However if I take two arrays, a Dirac Delta function (an array with a 1 followed by zeros for the rest of the array) and a stepping kernel (ex. {1, 2, 3, 4 etc}), I would expect to get the forward FFT of both arrays, bit manipulation, multiply them together, Inverse FFT, and bit manipulate again and the result would be the kernel. I have not had such luck.
This is the gist of the program:
// bit manipulation, converts complex array to two re and im arrays
public void bitTwiddle(double [] real, double [] real2, double [] imaginary){
double [] realCopy = new double [] {0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0};
double [] imaginaryCopy = new double [] {0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0};
for (int idx = 0; idx < (N * 2); idx++){
realCopy[idx] = real [idx];
[Code] ....
This is the result:

Something about implementing Comparator interface isn't very clear to me: overriding the compare method.
Like here for example:
//This sorts a list of objects holding information based on age: the name and the age of the person
public class Person {
String name;
int age;
public Person (String name, int age)
{
this.name = name;
this.age = age;
[Code] ....
What exactly is happening behind the scenes? I don't understand mostly the part where it returns a 0, a 1, or a -1. After it returns one of those values, what really happens next?
For the displaying of the list, is the method toString() being accessed to output the list in the System.out.println statement?
For the generics, why do we use Person?
Why Class implementation is not possible in java....

View Replies View RelatedThe following codes shows an implementation of an enqueue function of a FIFO immutable queue, and the output result shows the String "c".
I don't understand why since I expected it should be null.
The head and the tail of an ImmutableQueue Object are two separate queue, and each time I call the enqueue function, it just return a new object with a new tail, however, the head is not modified except the first two times I call the function.
Therefore, I expected head.next.next should be a null element, but the result is not like that.
