Catching Text Message From Exception

Apr 10, 2014

I can't catch the text message from a exception because ex.getMessage() is null.

Code is

try {
        .......
    } catch (Exception ex) {
            System.out.println("Error "+ex.getMessage());
            Logger.getLogger(Soap.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
            statD.errMessage = ex.getMessage();
            statD.succes = false;
            return statD;
        }

And the program writes at the console:

Error null

Also on the console screen I can see the following message:

Apr 10, 2014 3:00:38 PM SoapUtils.Soap setPostVarsSEVERE: nulljava.lang.NullPointerException at SoapUtils.Soap.setPostVars(Soap.java:830)
Line 830 of Soap.java is inside the try {}.

Why is the ex.getMesage() null?

Reading From Text File - Print Linked List On Console

Mar 9, 2015

How can i convert this linked list code to a read from input.txt

The first line in the input file will give the elements to initialize the linked list with. Consecutive lines will provide operation instructions.

Your code should read one line at a time. After reading each line, it should perform the corresponding operation and print the linked-list on the console.

If an operation is not possible, it should print "N/A".

Sample input file. Please note, the comments (// ...) are given for explanation, the input file will not have them:

4, 5, 6, 3// First line. This will provide the initial values for the linked list : 4->5->6->3
1, 9// Add a 9 at the front of the linked-list. After this operation the linked-list should be: 9->4->5->6->3
2, 1// Add a 1 at the end of the linked-list. After this operation the linked-list should be: 9->4->5->6->3->1
3, // Delete the first node in the linked-list. After this operation the linked-list should be: 4->5->6->3->1
4, // Delete the last node in the linked-list. After this operation the linked-list should be: 4->5->6->3
5, 11// Delete the node with the value 11 in it. Since this is not possible, it should print "N/A"
5, 6// Delete the node with the value 6 in it. After this operation the linked-list should be: 4->5->3

Sample output to the console:

4->5->6->3
9->4->5->6->3
9->4->5->6->3->1
4->5->6->3->1
4->5->6->3
N/A
4->5->3

protected Node end ;

public class ActorTableModel extends DefaultTableModel {

public ActorTableModel (Object data[][],Object columnNames[]) {

public Class<?> getColumnClass (int column) {

The result is when I sort on that column (0), it sorts alphabetically not numerically.

Assign A Value To Numeric Variable Then Manipulate It And Return A New String

Aug 18, 2014

At first I wanted to just use an array and set each day a value, however I was told that it has to be stored as a string.

Design and implement the class Day that implements the day of the week in a program. The class Day should store the day, such as Sun for Sunday. The program should be able to perform the following operations on an object of type Day:

A. Set the day.
B. Print the day.
C. Return the day.
D. Return the next day.
E. Return the previous day.
F. Calculate and return the day by adding certain days to the current day. For example, if the current day is Monday and we add four days, the day to be returned is Friday. Similarly, if today is Tuesday and we add 13 days, the day to be returned is Monday.
G. Add the appropriate constructors.
H. Write the definitions of the methods to implement the operations for the class Day, as defined in A through G.
I. Write a program to test various operations on the class Day.

import java.util.*;
public class Day {
static Scanner readinput = new Scanner(System.in);
String day;
public Day(String day) {

[Code] ....

So right now if I run my code it allows me to type in a day, then it gives me the next and previous day, the last part is to add X days to it. Ideally I would like to be able to take the day entered, depending on the day set a numeric value, then add prompt for number of days you want to add. The program should then use modal (%7 ) to add value to the value that was given based on the day, and then translate it back into a String value (the day).

Read Text File Into Array Ask User To Save File And Print Data

Jul 14, 2014

New to programming. Am supposed to create a program that reads a text file (of integers) and computes a series of computations on these integers. I don't have the code for the integers in my code yet, (i know how to do those), but am struggling getting the array to simply print in the print writer. I have the user select a text file, read the file with a scanner, and then save the computations done from my code into another file. specifically, the problem is as follows: Write a program that uses a file chooser dialog to select a file containing some integers. The file contains an integer N followed by N integers. The program then uses a file chooser dialog to let the user specify the name and location of an output file to write results to.The data written to the output file will be as follows

(1) The original list of N numbers from the input file,
(2) The original list of N numbers printed in reverse order of how they appear
in the input file.
(3) The sum and average of these numbers,
(4) The minimum of all the numbers,
(5) The maximum of all the numbers.

[import java.io.File;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.io.PrintWriter;

Create Object Deriving From PrintingClass And Use That Object To Print Text

Apr 9, 2014

Task:The main method of the class Things below creates an object called printer deriving from the class PrintingClass and uses that object to print text. Your task is to write the PrintingClass class.

Program to complete:
import java.util.Scanner;
public class Things {
public static void main(String args[]) {
String characterString;
Scanner reader = new Scanner(System.in);
PrintingClass printer = new PrintingClass();
System.out.print("Type in the character string for printing: ");
characterString = reader.nextLine();
printer.Print(characterString);
}
}

// Write the missing class here

Note: In this exercise the solution is part of a conversion unit where many classes have been declared. Because of this the classes are not declared as public using the public attribute.

Example output

Type in the character string for printing: John Doe

John Doe

My Class:
class PrintingClass {
public void print(){
System.out.println(characterString);
}
}

How To Make Print Employee Button To Print Info Of Other Class

Apr 12, 2014

Basically the class is supposed to have a static variable that keeps track of the number of companies (numberOfCompanies) that have been created and a static method that returns the value of this variable. I need to have a constructor and a method to addEmployee, a method to printCompany, and a toString method. The addEmployee method will check that there is only 1 salesperson, 2 designers, and 4 manufacturing persons at a time and will check that there are no more than 7 employees of the company.

The addEmployee method will return a String indicating what the error is (i.e. "There is already a sales person in this company") or a null if the employee was added. If attempting to name a third company, an error message will be shown. what i have so far but my print company mmethod returns null company class :in which i am obliged to use inputdialog because it says that it cannot return void when i use the showmeassage diaolog.

How To Convert Numeric String To Formatted String

Sep 11, 2014

I have a string value returned from a background tool that will range from 0 to possibly terabytes as a full number.  I want to format that number to use commas and to reduce the character count using an appropriate size modifier (KiB, MiB, GiB, etc).  I've tried converting the string number to a Double value using Double.parseDouble() and then performing the math based on the size of the value with this code:

Double dblConversionSize;
String stCinvertedSize;
dblConversionSize = Double.parseDouble(theValue);
if (dblConversionSize > (1024 * 1024 * 1024))
     stConvertedSize = String.format("%,.000d", dblConversionSize / 1024 / 1024 / 1024) + " TiB";
...

I've also tried using

     String.valueOf(dblConversionSize / 1024 / 1024 / 1024) + " TiB";

However, the formatting is failing and I'm either getting a format exception or the result is displayed as a number with no decimal component.
