I am using NetBeans IDE 8.0.2 to program Java code. I am a beginner in Java.
Instead of getting two decimal places after the point, I am getting three despite using the code format for two ("##.##"). Actually, this happens even if I remove the format code between the quotes. It is as if the program cannot see the format code. Why this happens ?
Here is the relevant program code:
private void convertButtonActionPerformed(java.awt.event.Action Event evt) {
double inputNumber = 0;
// sets the decimal format

Write a program that will provide temperature conversions between degrees Fahrenheit and degrees Celsius. Provide a method that will take an argument representing a temperature in Fahrenheit degrees and return the equivalent temperature in degrees Celsius. Also provide a method that will take an argument representing a temperature in degrees Celsius and return the equivalent temperature in degrees Fahrenheit. Conversion formulas are as follows: F = 9./5. * C + 32, C = 5./9. * ( F - 32 ), where F = Fahrenheit temperature and C = Celsius temperature. You must prompt for input using the Input class methods that are provided as a download for this unit.
I have two questions, 1st is why won't I get an output from my program when I run it? 2nd is how do I prompt for input using the Input class methods downloaded? The downloaded files are in .class form, and won't show any output when I run them.My code is:
import java.util.*;
public class temp
{
public static void main ( String [] args )
{
Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in);

I simply need to write a program that asks a user to input a password. It has to be in this format: DDD-LL-DDDD. The D's mean Digit and the L's stands for Letter. The User has to enter the Hyphens.
If the password isn't entered in that exact format the program should read out a error. If the hyphens aren't entered the program should read out a error. If there are too many characters entered, there should be a error.
import java.util.Scanner;
public class security {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.println("Enter Security Code: ");
System.out.println("Use the format: DDD-LL-DDDD and include dashes");
String code = input.next();
char c;
[Code] ....
I'm trying to figure how how to get the code to check if the values entered are in the correct place. I'm also not sure how to make the program check for hyphens. I feel like I'm close though. I can easily add the correct error and valid messages later if I could just figure out this part.

A GUI program that allows user to enter their name and the program will convert it in number using array.
For example if i input "EUNISE" the output should be 521149195
Because the letter equivalent of
a = 1
b = 2
c = 3
d = 4
e = 5
f = 6
g = 7
h = 8
i = 9
j = 10
k = 11
l = 12

this is working properly.
but when i trying with Scanner i am facing problem.

I am trying to write a program converting Fahrenheit to Celsius using a for loop. I get it to run and Fahrenheit goes to a hundred. My issue is that the Celsius just says 100 down the column and is not converting. I have tried messing with it, and can not figure what is wrong with it.
import java.util.Scanner;
public class Controlstatement {
public static void main(String[] args) {
double F = 1.0;
double Celcius = 100;
System.out.printf("%s%20s", "Farenheit", "Celcius" );
for (int Farenheit = 0; Farenheit <= 100; Farenheit++) {
F = Celcius * (Farenheit - 32 * 5.0/9.0);
System.out.printf("%4d%,20.2f", Farenheit, Celcius);
}
}
}
The output looks like this all the way to 100:
Farenheit Celcius
0 100.00
1 100.00
2 100.00
3 100.00

I just started programming yesterday, and I have been making little programs to learn some algorithms and the syntax of java. I tried making a program that could convert metric units into the American system. Whenever I try to compile the code, it shows up as an "incompatible type" error. I know this is probably a very obvious answer to most of you, but I can't figure it out.
import java.util.Scanner;
public class MetricToAmerican
{
public static void main(String[] args)
{
Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.println("fWhat measurement would you like to convert into US system?
celsius, meter, or kilogram ");

In the test program, you will need to convert the Strings for quantity and price to numeric types. To do this, you could use the Integer.parseInt() method and the Double.parseDouble() methods. I'm not sure what he means by that. I attempted it in my program but I get these errors

I am writing a program to convert a base 10 integer to any base 2-16. Here are the terms:"The method is to convert the decimal value the user selected into whatever base the user selected and print the converted value one place value at a time by using an index into an array of characters 0-9 amd A-F that is initialized to contain those characters.In the method you will find the largest place value (i.e. power of the base) that will divide into the decimal number.
Then you can set up a loop that will operate from that power down to and including the 0th power to determine how many times each place value goes into the decimal number. Using the loop counter, index into the character array to print the character that corresponds to the quotient number and then subtract the product of the place value and the quotient from the decimal number. With the power (loop index) decreased, repeat until you finish the 0th place value. Here's what I have so far:
import java.io.*;
import java.util.Scanner;
public class ConvertIt
{//start program
public static void main(String[] args)
{//start main
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.println("Enter a positive integer from 0 to 10000.");
int number = input.nextInt();

<script type="text/javascript">
function CompareDates(id)
{
var monName = new Array("Jan", "Feb", "Mar", "Apr", "May", "Jun", "Jul", "Aug", "Sept", "Oct", "Nov", "Dec");
var d = new Date(id);
var curr_date = d.getDate();
[code]....
why the default date format that the textbox accepts is in 'mm/dd/yyyy'.For example if i entered "13-05-2014" then it would return an error stating date is invalid.If i entered "12-05-2014" then it would return "5 Dec, 2014".I did not declare any dateformat anywhere except for the datepickers which as shown above, is 'd MMM, yyyy'.Before this happened i trialed and error many different kind of codes to try to validate the date however it all didnt work and so i reverted it all back to the original codes.Last time the dateformat that the textbox accepted was 'dd/mm/yyyy' and it worked fine with my javascript function except the validation part.
Now it still works except that the dateformat changed to 'mm/dd/yyyy'.I did try to use console.log to find out what's wrong but there were no error messages.Why has the dateformat changed by itself?
