I am trying to read a file and input each line of the file into an array. I have not set the array size as I was hoping to fill the array using a while loop. Unfortunately the scope of the array does to work inside the while loop so I am being told that the array 'students' has not been initialised even though it has just outside of the while loop. Is it possible to do what I am trying to without having the array initialised in the while loop as surely the array will be reset every time if it was in the while loop? Here is my code:
public static void students(String file) throws FileNotFoundException { try { File studentInfo = new File(file); Scanner input = new Scanner(studentInfo); String[] students;
I am creating a simple Symptom Checker application. The problem I have is that I'm trying to retrieve user input (JTextField) by comma's using StringTokenizer which contacts the database for a result which matches the user's input (SELECT * FROM DIAGNOSIS WHERE ?, ?, ?) . It successfully finds the correct result however only in a particular format. Not different combinations....
for example, if I enter say within the JTextField: "tearful, nausea, lack of motivation" it will find the result successfully (as that is how it is formatted within the particular column (in the database table) i wish to display a result from) however, if i enter a different combination of these symptoms: "nausea, lack of motivation, tearful" - it will not find any result. I'm very unsure how to make it work regardless of what is inputted first, second or last.
Here is the code:
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { try { String abc = fieldsymp1.getText(); StringTokenizer str = new StringTokenizer(abc); while (str.hasMoreTokens()) { str.nextToken((", ")).trim();
How do I make the file reader object move to the next line if there is no more input on the line. Here is my text and output file as you can see that my text file column cuts off on the 2nd line after 70. I want to read that next line which is 100 into my labs variable however its reading it into my final exams variable. I'll also post the code but I didn't think it was necessary.
textfile: 100908095 1008070 10070
output: Labs Projects Tests Final Exams 100908095 1008070100 70
[import java.util.Scanner; import java.io.*; public class MyGrades { public static void main (String[] args) throws IOException { int lab, project, test; int finalExam;//Par and Player values
I think the lines need to be stored in ArrayList, then I would like those lines to write to csv file, but how on read I can construct such output file? This is my code for reading file
public ArrayList readFile(String filename) { try {
My requirement is to find the line number using multiline string. Here I need to extract the string between FROM and where clause(from the below string) and need to find the line number in the file
SELECT HL.LOCATION_ID,HPS.PARTY_SITE_ID,HCAS.CUST_ACCT_SITE_ID INTO LN_SITE_LOCATION_ID,LN_LOC_PARTY_SITE_ID,LN_CUST_ACCT_SITE_ID FROM HZ_LOCATIONS HL, HZ_PARTY_SITES HPS,
01. pickup the selected text file and read the line by line and output the text in to visual text pane.
what i did:.
01. I wrote code that read the text file and output in to jave console/ also some of the interface.
the code read txt file:
Java Code:
String fileName = "C:/Users/lakshan/Desktop/lawyer.txt"; File textFile = new File(fileName); Scanner in = new Scanner (textFile); while(in.hasNextLine()){
[code]....
so it will read any text file dynamically and output to the text pane in interface. I think scanner code must be execute after the select the file from the browser and set the scanned result in to variable. then later out put the var as string in some jswing component?
I am trying to write to a file but everything I have tried doesn't seem to work. What I want to do is read a file and then output back to the same file on a new line. The text file contains the sentence "Java is a programming language".
import java.util.Scanner; import java.io.*; class HW1B { public static void main(String[] args) { Scanner fileIn = null; try { fileIn = new Scanner (new FileInputStream("text.txt"));
[Code] ....
These are the errors :
HW1B.java:19: error: no suitable constructor found for Scanner(FileOutputStream) fileOut = new Scanner (new FileOutputStream("text.txt")); ^ constructor Scanner.Scanner(Readable) is not applicable (argument mismatch; FileOutputStream cannot be converted to Readable) constructor Scanner.Scanner(InputStream) is not applicable
[Code] ....
Note: Some messages have been simplified; recompile with -Xdiags:verbose to get full output 2 errors
So I'm trying to read 11 values from a text file, each value on a separate line. The first value I use as loop control to run through calculations on the other ten and finally output both the numbers and the calculations to the console and an output file. I'm not getting a compiler error or a runtime error but my loop seems to stop after reading the first line. It also doesnt seem to be writing to my output file but does create it when I run the program. This is what my text file looks like
import java.util.*; import java.io.*; public class assignment7scratch { Toolkit_General toolKit = new Toolkit_General(); public static void main (String[]args)throws IOException
[Code] .....
so I dont get an error but this is what my output looks like
----jGRASP exec: java assignment7scratch
This program reads a list of values representing number of miles driven by individuals. It will output the dollar amount their rental cars cost.
Number of miles traveled on the left as well as amount reimbursed on the right
----------------------------------------------- Miles Driven Amount reimbursed 150.427.072
----jGRASP: operation complete.
it also doesn't write anything to my output file, though it does create one.
tab separated values, for different columns and these are the lines only I want method to read.Now suppose if any is there as below, or even enter

That particular line should be escaped. Till now I have done when the file format is proper, and it is as below:--
public static void main(String[] args) { BufferedReader br = null; String temp = null; List<String> arrayRead = new ArrayList<String>(); try{ br = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("D: estingSalesData.txt"));
I want to read property file in java from command line argument,i.e. if i have some parameters which i have to use separately , i comment the parameters which i don't have to use that time , then uncomment when i have to use.
Is there and way to read the required parameters through command line arguments in java.
So I have this file in which has a few sentences on a single line. What I need to be able to do is read the file and then take each word and create a token out of it. Then what it does is it selects the first letter of every 5th word, uppercase it, and then allow me to use append it via a stringbuffer object to create a word out of it.
I know I'll need to use a string tokenizer but I'm not sure how to do so in a way that makes each word separate and how to tell it to only hit the 1st letter of every 5th word.
Here's what I've come up with so far, but I'm currently at a loss at what to do and my textbook/documentation is just not working.
Java Code:
String line; // The line we read from the file. char letter; // The first letter of each 5th word. String sw; // The completed string. public static void main (String [] args)throws IOException {
I am trying to complete this question. I understand the most of it but I haven't go a clue to read in the file name.
Full question: Implement a program that reads in a Java source code file and checks to see if it has balanced {}brackets. Your program should use a stack, implemented as a linked list, to check the brackets.
NOTE: you can use a reference called top which points to the head of the list. Your program should run as a command line program and should take a filename as an argument and print one of BALANCED or NOT BALANCED.
For example: c:> java checkBalanced "myProgram.java" BALANCED
I have wrote this class who read from text line by line and save the words in fileOnTable.. Now i don't know what to read in ReadOffer to save the words in object offers and return this.. One more question.. What JUnit test can write for this code..?
Well my code is supposed to ask for an input file and then (ex: input.txt), read the input file and create an output.txt file with the anagram for the words in the file. Also it should be displayed on the screen. However my code doesn't display the anagram on screen or the output file!
/* This program will read a file given by the user, read the words within the file and determine anagrams of the given words. If the file that the user inputs is empty, then the program will output "The input file is empty." * The program will read the file line by line, counting the total number of words read. If there are more than 50 words, "There are more than 50 words." * will be printed, and the program will terminate. After each line is read, the words in the line will be separated,punctuation characters will be removed, and upper case characters will be switched to lower case. * If any word is larger than 12 characters, that word will not be considered in the total amount of words in the file and it will not be sorted. * After each word is read, the letters will be sorted and stored into an array containing each * word's 'signature'. After all the words have been read, words will be printed to the output file on the same line based upon their signature. */
public class Anagram { //Creating constants for maximum words in file and maximum chars in word public static final int MAX_CHARS = 12; public static final int MAX_WORDS = 50;
I am having a lot of trouble with this lab. basically I have to make a text processor to read in code put it into a file and output the contents of the input file in alphabetical order one word per line. I have to reference the string varaibles input_filename and output_filename.
import java.io.FileInputStream; import java.io.FileNotFoundException; import java.io.FileReader; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.PrintWriter; import java.util.Scanner; import java.io.File; public class TextProcessor {
[Code] ....
these are the guidelines to said lab:
1. In the main method define two Strings called input_filename and output_filename. I will be setting these Strings to my own file names for testing your code, so make sure you get these variable names correct, and that you use them properly in the following steps. 2. Read in the text contents of the file referenced by input_filename. 3. Split the contents of the input text into separate tokens, using whitespace as a delimiter. 4. Lower case the tokens. 5. OPTIONAL: remove punctuation 6. Alphabetize the tokens. 7. Using output_filename, write the alphabetized tokens to an output file, one token per line. 8. Be sure to close file streams - no resource leaks! 9. Use methods to separate functionality in your program where possible
I am having trouble adding numbers read from a file with BufferedReader, using Tokenizer to split the numbers up by " " - space and adding them to an adjacency matrix.Below is the text file and my code, that I have at the moment.
i'm trying to add new value (string type) in an existent file.say that we have a .txt file which contain "mario"...i ask to the user a new name, and he write for expample "tony", now i want append the word "tony" in the existent file in this way: Iwrote this code:
first is saved next to the value existing. why? maybe because the program does not check if there is a string in the file?but I do not think. because otherwise it would happen with any name that is not entered in an odd position.
I keep receiving an error in which State.Fall.txt can not be read. I can't point it directly to a drive because someone else needs to open it. I saved it in wordpad as a text file. My question is what did I do wrong in my code that it can't directly access the wordpad document?
import java.io.*; public class Main { /** * @param args the command line arguments * */ public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException { // Create an array of individual state objects to hold 50 items
Public static boolean updateNetMap(String filepath, String nodename){
// check the file pointed by filepath to have entry for nodename. // if it is there, get the start line no and end line no // Based on the line nos, need logic to remove the contents from the file. }
Below is the sample node entry, which we need to identify and delete (here nodename is WAS_CD1):
So basically, if a line in a text file contains a certain string, that specific line will be deleted. It should probably be similair to this method?
Java Code:
/** * Replace text. * @param replace * The text to replace. * @param replaceWith * The text to replace with. */ public static void replaceSelected(String replace, String replaceWith) { try { BufferedReader file = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("data/replacer.txt"));
I am having issues insert each line of the simple textfile into a specific varible I want it to go to. For example my text file is ordered like this
Dallas 78 F North, 15 mph dallasimage Denver 29 F South, 10 mph denverimage
and I want Dallas in city variable, 78f in temperature variable, and so on until text ends, at the moment is all goes into city variable, it all prints from there! I tried inserting it into an array but it would read all the lines previous to it in addition to reusing readline and all failed.
import java.io.BufferedReader; import java.io.File; import java.io.FileReader; import java.io.IOException; public class Textreader { public static void main(String[] args) {
I am writing to a text file via user input and it is saving all the user input to the file but it is just printing one word per line. I would like it to print the string on one line and print the next string on the next line upon them hitting enter.
public void textFile() { Scanner reader = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.println("Enter file name: "); String fileName = reader.next(); File f = new File(fileName); PrintWriter p = null;
