Java Applet - Background Color Is Not Being Set

Nov 23, 2014

I am trying to go about making this applet a bit different then normal. The issue I am having is it is drawing an applet but, not the right dimensions, it's able to be resized, lastly the background color is not being set. I mean, I suppose I could call paint() and just draw it out but, I read that I could make the applet pop out to the dimensions I would like. None of this is working sadly.

package com.powder.game;
import javax.swing.*;
import java.applet.*;
import java.awt.*;
import java.util.*;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.lang.Math;

[code]...

my exact question is can I rewrite the applet to make a pop out window and should I just call paint()?

JavaFX 2.0 :: Setting Background Color For Layout - Fill / Color On OS X

Jun 10, 2014

No problem setting background color for layouts, e.g. bdrPn.setBackground(new Background((new BackgroundFill(Color.BLACK, CornerRadii.EMPTY, Insets.EMPTY))));

But neither of the following are working for me, running JavaFX 8 on latest OS-X

scene = new Scene(bdrPn, winW, winH, Color.BLACK);
scene.setFill(Color.BLACK);
scene.setFill() worked fine for previous versions of JavaFX.

Swing/AWT/SWT :: JCheckBox Background Color Not Showing Up In Nimbus

Jul 17, 2014

I'm displaying a table with several read-only pieces of data, and a checkbox field that toggles the row color. The background color for the checkbox is not toggling correctly. I put together a SSCCE:

import java.awt.Color;
import java.awt.Component;
import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.util.List;

[code]....

If I comment out the Nimbus look and feel, it works as expected. I googled this problem and found one possible solution on Stack Overflow. Their suggestion is:It's a bug in the synth-installed renderer, quick hack is to force the rendering checkbox opacity to true: ((JComponent) table. get Default Renderer(Boolean.class)).setOpaque(true);

I tried using this line and setting the opacity to true, but it renders the background white. I'm using Java 1.7.0_25.

2D Side Scroller Moving Background In Java

Jan 18, 2014

I have been following a 2d side scroller tutorial in java and have got the basics working, I changed the code a bit to make it so that the tiles and background are always moving, this worked as i intended.Within the character class:

if (speedX < 0) {
centerX += speedX;
}
if (speedX == 0 || speedX < 0) {
bg1.setSpeedX(0);
bg2.setSpeedX(0);

[code]....

I wanted a way to make it so that if the character moves left, the tiles + background move slower. I am having issues with variable scope and setters/getters. Within the main game class, I have the code:

case
KeyEvent.VK_LEFT:
character.moveLeft();
character.setMovingLeft(true);
break;

How can i include an if statement within the tile class that reads whether the character is moving left (determined from a keyPressed event in the main game class) and adjusts the speed of the tiles accordingly?I want to write something to the effect of:

if (setMovingLeft = true){
speedX = bg.getSpeedX() * 3;
tileX = tileX + speedX - 1; << changed from - 4

Constantly Changing Color Of World Map Image In Java

Oct 7, 2014

I am trying to create a virus simulation program. The program is supposed to just be a map of the world where the user can click any country in the world to specify where they want their virus to start, specify how transmittable the virus is, and be able to see how the virus spreads through the world by seeing a change in color throughout the world,

I want the world map to initially start out with a very light yellow, and as areas of the world slowly start to get more and more infected by the virus, I want those areas on the map to start changing to a very dark red (going from a light yellow, through shades of orange and red, to dark red).

So, the main idea of this is to have a program that displays an image where certain parts of the image will slowly change color during the runtime of the program. I obviously know how to change colors of certain parts of a window or even an image, but this is very very detailed and advanced but how to even start this.

Using JFrame In Java?

Apr 16, 2014

how to use JFrames and button and so on in Java. I found this video on youtube and followed it along, however even though my program is virtually identical to his, I'm still getting errors.

Here's the video I was watching: Video

And here's my code:

import javax.swing.*; //Imports JFrame and JButton for use
import javax.swing.JFrame;
import javax.swing.JPanel;
import javax.*;
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
public class swing

[code]....

The reason why I'm importing some many things is I'm trying everything to try fix my problem.

He's the error messages I'm getting:

frame2.add(panel);
^
C:UsersWindows 8Documentsswing.java:42: error: illegal start of expression
frame2.add(panel);

[code]....

I used to make the button just create another frame without additional labels but I changed it to be even more similar to his program just to rule everything out. Also initially my program varied quite a bit, I've changed everything to be like his. Even without the ";" error I got, I kept telling me I was not allowed have my class as static, even though the guy in the video has it set to static. Also I don't think my "setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);" is working as it doesn't change color.

I think the problem is with my panel, it isn't adding to the frame for some reason.I'm using TextPad7 and I'm using Win8.

C:UsersWindows 8Documentsswing.java:42: error: '(' or '[' expected
frame2.add(panel);
^
C:UsersWindows 8Documentsswing.java:42: error: illegal start of expression
frame2.add(panel);

[code]....

I would also like to point out that some of the comments are out of date and are referencing the way the program was before I made it just like his. For example I know my second class isn't inheriting the first class.
