Unable To Sum All Integers In Binary File
Dec 4, 2014
iam trying to sum all the integers in a binary file. the integers are 0-9. IAM having trouble exiting the while loop to display the sum. below is what i have so far which is not displaying the sum.
import java.io.*;
public class binaryAdd{
public static void main(String []args)throws IOException{
DataOutputStream output= new DataOutputStream(new FileOutputStream("myBinary.dat"));
for(int i=0;i<10;i++){

I have a problem where i have to write some code to read through an int array and print out the different integers and how many times they occur. For example:
if the array contained the numbers 1,4,2,3,5,4,4,7,5,4,3,6,8,6,4,
i would need the print to appear something like this
integer: 1, times: 1
integer: 4, times: 5
integer: 2, times: 1
etc
as the array is read sequentialy from element 0 to the end. the program should find the integer value in the first element (increment a counter by 1) and then search all other elements to see if the integer reoccurs (counter++ for each time it reappears). obviously the counter would be the 'times' value in the second column.
My problem is i can get this accomplished yet i cant get the program to recognise when it has already registered an integer in a previous element and skip to the next element looking for a new integer. SO for each element in the array it prints the integer and then searches the entire array for the integer again and increments the counter accordingly. so in essence there is a line printed for each integer the number of times it actually occurs.
I simply wish to have my code to find an integer and the number of times it occurs. and then disregard the elements it has registered the previous integer in.
Also, keep in mind that i am NOT permitted to use any new data structures/arrays for storing/remembering values. I can only use int and double variables throughout.
what i have so far is this: with the array being customerID[] :
Java Code:
int num;
int counter;
for(int count = 0; count < customerID.length; count++)
{
counter = 0;
num = customerID[count];
for(int count2 = 0; count2 < customerID.length; count2++)
[Code]...
The output for the int array 1,1,3,0,3,2,0,4,1,3, looks something like this:
Integer: 1, Times: 3
Integer: 1, Times: 3
Integer: 3, Times: 3
Integer: 0, Times: 2
Integer: 3, Times: 3
Integer: 2, Times: 1
[Code]...
and as you can see lines are repeated for each time the same integer occurs in a new element. i just need my code to skip an element if the integer has been previously encounterd and recorded. i.e i need it to look more like this :
Integer: 1, Times: 3
Integer: 3, Times: 3
Integer: 0, Times: 2
Integer: 2, Times: 1
Integer: 4, Times: 1
with the first encountered integer being checked throughout the array and then moving to the next integer/element which is not the same as any previous.

So in my binary search tree I'm trying to write a method that deletes the idem but for some reason it's not working. I have two things, I have the method and then another piece of code that tests the deletion method. Here's the actual method
public void delete(String word) {
root = deleteItem(root, word);
}
protected TreeNode deleteItem(TreeNode r, String word) {
if (r == null){
return r;
}
if(word.compareTo(r.item.getWord()) < 0){
[Code]...
Here's the test code
message = "Test: deleting 'word' -- ";
t = new BSTRefBased();
try {
t.delete("word");
result = t.getRootItem().getWord().equals(null);
} catch (Exception e) {
result = false;
}
System.out.println(message + (result ? "passed" : "FAILED"));
So for some reason it keeps saying that the test failed. Why does it keep saying that.

However i have trouble when non integers are put into the file for example if it was

I have a binary file that has identifiers for the start of each record
You can see here that the record starts with 00 00 and the next record starts with 00 00 etc...
How do I read between these two points throughout the file?
RandomAccessFile database = new RandomAccessFile(databasePath, "r");
int start = 0;
int end = 0;
database.setLength(start);
database.seek(end);
The first start would be the start of the file, the next start would be the end of the first start and so on..
I'm just not sure how to put that into a loop.

Everything compiles but doesn't work like it should. What the idea is, is to be able to add class personnel objects and have them saved in a file, so that later on i would be able to see them.
Back to my problem: When i create a new "Personnel" and try to run Write and read, to see if my new "Personnel" is added to the list, it's not there at all... what do i do wrong?
import java.io.*;
class Personnel implements Serializable
//No other action required by Serializable interface.

private String firstNames;

I have a unix program that simulates an accident evolving as a function of time and produces two files. I will focus on the first file before getting to the second. This first file has five output variables/vectors (velocity vs time, pressure vs time, etc), which are selected as part of the simulation input. These are the variables I have to put into Excel if I want to view the transient graphically. Where it gets tedious is that, if I want to view a different set of five variables, I have to rerun, extract, put these in Excel to plot. There can be lots of variables needed to properly characterize the accident.
The second file produced is a really large binary file. This file contains all the information that I'd need, precluding the need to rerun to view a different set of output variables. This is the file that seems tailor-made for a Java or something to be able to extract the information. That is, it seems like Java could be used to do this work: extract variable information from the large binary file. Eventually, I would like to plot it too and I know I could use Java there.
I think my steps are:
1) understand the format of my binary file
2) reconfigure the binary file for use with java (is this demuxing?)
3) learn java programming for this application: extracting information to produce something like a .csv file with time on the leftmost column and variable information populating the rest of the columns.

FileChannel inChannel = aFile.getChannel();
ByteBuffer buffer = ByteBuffer.allocate(1024);
while(inChannel.read(buffer) > 0)

I had started a web project in java with eclipse.....The problem is I am unable to get a css file linked to the jsp page I have designed.... The following is my directory structure:
theFacebook
-WebContent
-----css
--------style.css
-----jsp
--------index.jsp
-----images
--------facebooklogo.jpg
--------fevicon.ico
-----META-INF
-----WEB-INF
and the link tags I have used in my jsp file are as follows:
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/theFacebook/WebContent/images/favicon.ico"></link>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="//WebContent/css/style.css" type="text/css"></link>
<img src="/theFacebook/WebContent/images/facebooklogo.JPG"/>
When I deploy the jsp file in Tomcat it shows the HTML page as it is with no effect of the CSS whatsoever with none of the three tags working.

You are given a text. Write a program which outputs its lines according to the following rules:
If line length is ≤ 55 characters, print it without any changes.
If the line length is > 55 characters, change it as follows:
Trim the line to 40 characters.
If there are spaces in the resulting string, trim it once again to the last space (the space should be trimmed too).
Add a string... <Read More> to the end of the resulting string and print it.
I felt as if I did do what they were asking, but for some reason, I'm getting "Sorry, Unable to read file!"."Instead of using file, I did use the location of the file name".Also, I've attached a image of the input looks like and the output.
My CODE:
import java.io.BufferedReader;
import java.io.File;
import java.io.FileReader;
public class Main {
public static void main (String[]args)

JAVA_HOME : C:Program FilesJavajdk1.8.0_05
path : D:apache-tomcat-8.0.9-windows-x64apache-tomcat-8.0.9in
In reference to the book "Head First Servlets and JSP, 2nd edition", chapter-3(), page-81, the command to compile the servlet file to the desired location is
javac -classpath UsersertApplications2 omcatcommonlibservlet-api.jar:classes:. -d classes src/com/example/web/BeerSelect.java (from the Myprojects/beer-V1 directory)
Whereas I have written
javac -classpath D:apache-tomcat-8.0.9-windows-x64apache-tomcat-8.0.9libservlet-api.jar;classes;. -d classes src/com/example/web/BeerSelect.java
(from the same directory as can be confirmed from the attachment of screenshot of error). this code is in accordance to the location of the respective files in my system, in particular the servlet-api.jar file.
After doing this, my computer is showing the error : file not found.
How do I resolve this? Actually, I don't understand completely what this code is trying to accomplish.

I am trying to write to a text file with information stored like this.
brick 500
stone 500
And so on. Here is the code I am using to write to the file.
switch(record){
case "brick":
x.format("%s%n", "brick " + value);
closeFile();
break;
case "log":
x.format("
%s%n", "log " + value);
closeFile();
break;
When I write like this, putting deletes the first line. What I can look into or other functions that would be useful?

I'm trying to load a class file into Oracle using loadjava and I get the following error:
ORA-29552: verification warning: java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: helloworld (Unsupported major.minor version 51.0)
Presumably this is related to an inconsistency between the jdk that I used to compile helloworld and the Oracle JVM? Or something like that?
My JAVA_HOME is C:Program Files (x86)Javajre7bin
My javac version used to compile the code is javac 1.7.0_15
java -version is "1.7.0_15"
When I do a find on java.exe in the oracle installation directory (I'm running 11.2) I get
J-PC:J >find -name java.exe
./product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/jdk/bin/java.exe
./product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/jdk/jre/bin/java.exe
./product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/jre/1.5.0/bin/java.exe
Finally, the jdbc jar is ojdbc6.jar
Btw the code is just the usual little tester:
import oracle.jdbc.driver.*;
public class helloworld {
public static String hello()
{
return "Hello World";
}
public static String hello(String s)
[Code]...
How can I get this class file loaded?
