I'm writing a program to dynamically update an xml file to add, delete, and edit entries in the file. I've run into an issue with the add method because when I write into the file, a random letter is added before the line. EX:
I want to add "<item> ..." to the end of the list of entries, but when it is added, this is what is added "Z <item> ..."The spacing for the <item> is correct, however, I don't see where or why the Z is added.

I'm writing a program that dynamically updates an xml file as it is being edited. It needs an add function, delete, and save, and so far, I've gotten only the add function working properly. I've got a delete method that works when I run only that method, but not when I run the program as a whole. I don't get any exceptions or errors and I'm trying to edit the file via printwriter. It creates a new temporary file with the new xml with the deleted section and then overwrites the current .xml file. It runs flawlessly when I run only the delete method, but not when I run the program as a whole.

I need to convert a .txt file to html text, where the first line is changed to have < h1 > < /h1 > around it and the rest is wrapped in < p > < /p > so for example I read a .txt file that says:
chapter 1
this is a sentence
it would output:
<h1>chapter 1</h1>
<p>this is a sentence</p>
here is what I have so far and I cannot get anything to output.
So I am trying to write the output of two different java class files to one txt file while the program runs. The file name is determined before the program is ran, through the command prompt as arguments. How can I get the second class file to edit the same txt file without running into compile errors.
For right now I'm just going to send everything that the second file outputs to a message String variable, so that the Main class outputs to the the text file. I still want to learn how to write to the same text file directly from the second class file.

Lets say I have a program that is not in any way connected to the Internet. I post it for for downloading, but I know that I will need to update it fairly often. I don't want people to have to redownload the entire program, I just want to send out a patch to update it. How can I do this?
I am writing a program in Java where a user adds 1 stamp on a letter for every five sheets of paper in it (or fraction thereof)For example, I if I have 11 sheets of paper, I add 3 stamps. If the total number of stamps is more than 3, they don't send it.

I am trying to create an array list without using the built in arrayList class that java has. I need to start the array being empty with a length of 5. I then add objects to the array. I want to check if the array is full and if not add a value to the next empty space. Once the array is full I then need to create a second array that starts empty and with the length of the first array + 1.
The contents of the first array are then copied into the new array without using the built in copy classes java has and then the new array ends up containing 5 elements and one null space the first time round. The first array is then overwritten with the new array containing the 5 elements and the null space. The process then starts again adding values until the array is full which will be 1 more value then recreating the second array empty and the length of the first array + 1. This is my attempt at creating this but I have run into multiple problems where I get only the last value I added and the rest of the values are null:

I'm getting ready to code a program that takes record of items loaned and return in a table. I want more than one user to access the program to be able to update the data in the table. For instance, if one user added 5 new items to the table, all other users would be able open the program to see a modified table with 5 new items. I'm in the process of writing a program that determines if a number is a Palindrome or not. I'm not allowed to use strings and am required to use the getSize method shown below. I believe my issue that I'm having is that the "num" is not being called in the getSize method, and therefore not running the while loop, or at least that is what I believe is the issue.

It was quite recently that Data Structures was introduced to me, so I started out writing some iterative programs recursively.I found some strange output which shouldn't have come out but if you take a look at these three codes

These are three versions of the code, achieving the same objective of obtaining a given number and returning the factorial, but in spite of the changes made to the code, they produce the same result. I needed a reason as to why it is so? I tried to dry run all the codes but at some point or the other I got confused, and had to start all over again and couldn't come up with a proper result.
User-defined classes. The concept of getters and setters goes right over my head. Right now we're to write a program to test the Person class below. We have to create 2 instances of the class to test each constructor, and test each method.

I am new to programming and we are writing a program to make a tic tac toe game utilizing inheritance, client-supplier, arrays, and EventButton. I've looked at multiple sources and everyone is saying different stuff. Which one should I be using? FileWriter/FileReader, other people was saying PrintWriter, and one even said : "Formatter" which is the one I'm doubting mostly. My purposes for writing files is for like saving maps, saving high scores, etc.
