#Error In Table Field

Apr 28, 2005

Our company Access database got screwed up today. I did the normal /repair to try to fix it and it the repair came back that it had successfully repaired the database. I did a compact and it came back with an error message at the end about not having rights to the database ( I was logged in as the administrator with full rights to everything). I then download the jetcomp.exe program on the MS web site but that didn't fix the problem.

When I started to investigate the problem, I noticed that the last three records in one of the tables had #Error in the same field. I deleted those records and that fixed the problem.

Question 1. If a field has #Error in it in the table view, doees that pretty much mean that record is fubar?

Question 2: Why did the Microsoft repair utility say it successfully repared the database and it still have errors.

Adding New Field To Existing Table And Form - Getting Error

Jun 8, 2014

I'm trying to add a combo box field to an existing table and form. I added the new field to my existing table and set it up as an combo box added my row sources. Then added the new field to an existing form and now am getting a error stating "The record source "Table name and added field here" specified on this form or report does not exist. When I just make the new field a text box instead of combo box it works just fine.

Tables :: Error - No Unique Index Found For Referenced Field Of Primary Table

Oct 8, 2013

I am trying to create a one-to-many relationship between these two tables. I want to be able to access the 3 fields on the [Processors] table within reports based on [AllItems]. [AllItems] is a listing of account activity where the [AccountNumber] repeats. I have every field set as the "Primary Key" on [AllItems] as that is the only way to avoid importing duplicate data. I am getting the error: "no unique index found for the referenced field of the primary table"

Modules & VBA :: Creating New Field In A Table With New Date - Result Type Is NULL Error

Sep 23, 2014

I'm new to programming with Access but am attempting to create a new field in a table with an new date based on existing fields in the table.

The current fields are [Frequency], integer, [Risk], text, [Last Audit Date], date/time, and the new field is [Next Audit Date]. [Frequency] is a calculated field based only on [Risk] and is equal to "5" if [Risk] is "Low" and is "3" is [Risk] is "Medium" or "High", and [Frequency] is blank if [Risk] is (thus far it has never been empty).

What I need the new calculated field to do is return "N/A" (or blank, or anything easily separated really) if [Frequency] is blank, or if [Risk] is "Low" or "Medium". If [Risk] is "High", [Next Audit Date] should be equal to [Last Audit Date] plus 3 years. When I try to save the code, I get this message: "The expression could not be saved because its result type, such as binary or NULL, is not supported by the server."

This is my code now:
IIf(IsNull([Frequency]),"",IIf([Risk]="Low","N/A",IIf([Risk]="Medium","N/A",IIf([Last Audit Date]="N/A","N/A",[Last Audit Date]+Year(3)))))

Access Error 3027 When Using VBA To Append Table To A Linked Table?

Apr 7, 2014

I have two tables, submit and imgdest. Submit is edited by front-end users to load pictures for back-end users who then delete the images when they're done with them. Submit is edited by a form, in the form I've placed a button (Command37) that has code:

Code:
Private Sub Command37_Click()
Call InsertData
MsgBox "Completed", "0", "Completed Backup"
Exit Sub
End Sub
Private Sub InsertData()

[code]....

This code was working for a short while, now anytime it's run I get error 3027 - Cannot update. Database or object is read-only. However, I can open the linked table and manually change information in it with no problems.

Tables :: Auto-populate Table Field From Calculated Field In Another Table?

Jan 15, 2015

I am creating a database to keep up with the expenses for my art business. I have a table for Vendors with a field (Mileage) for one-way mileage that I enter manually (EX: 11.8 miles). Then I have a calculated field that basically just multiplies the Mileage field times two to get total mileage to and from my house to vendor location. (Total Miles) {The reason I want to do this this way right now is because I didn't keep up with my mileage this year and I am having to look up the distance from my home to each location)

Then I have a "supplies" table where I show the date, the vendor, the item, cost, etc, and I want to add a Total Mileage field based on the calculated Total Miles field in the Vendors table that will automatically populate based on the vendor of each transaction. I just can't remember how to make this work and I know just enough SQL to be dangerous.

Tables :: Update A Field In One Table Based On Status Of A Field In Another Table

Aug 2, 2013

I have started work on a database to track the many (several hundred per annum) projects my company undertakes. A 'main' table lists projects, their fees, their key dates, their project numbers, etc. I have created another table for tasks. Each task is assigned to a project (via the project number), and may be 'open' or 'closed'. I have separated the tasks table from the projects table as there may be several different tasks for each project. It is also good to keep a record of the tasks.

I want to prepare a report from the projects table that lists projects IF they have any open tasks.

In my mind, this means 'If a task, with the corresponding project number, is open, put a 'Yes' in the 'Tasks open' field of the Projects table.'

Error If Null Field

May 9, 2006

I would like a MsgBox to pop up for the user if the Priority field is blank and the box count is not. I tried doing this on the report but the report will just not run. So I considered adding a module to the query.

However, I get a Data type mismatch. Below is the module and query. Can someone help me with this?

Function ErrorPriorityReport(ByVal BackPriority As Integer, ByVal BackBoxes As Integer, ByVal Priority As Integer, ByVal SumOfBoxes As Integer) As String
If BackPriority Is Null And BackBoxes <> Null Then
MsgBox "Report will be inaccurate! There are blank priorities. Please run report on Customer Menu!", vbOKOnly, "Missing Priority"
End If

If Priority Is Null And SumOfBoxes <> Null Then
MsgBox "Report will be inaccurate! There are blank priorities. Please run report on Customer Menu!", vbOKOnly, "Missing Priority"
End If
End Function

Here is the field in the query calling the module:
ErrorCheck: ErrorPriorityReport([BackPriority],[BackBoxes],[Priority],[SumofBoxes])

Memo Field Error

Nov 14, 2005

I'm using an append query to add a new record from a form.
The form has a text box and the contents get entered into a Memo field in the database. When I put more than 100 chars in the textbox and try to save to the database I get an "Invalid Argument" error.

If I use less than 100 chars then it appends fine. The error doesn't come from the textbox, I can put over 100 caracters in that, the error comes from the Append process.

In the append query I use this string.
Expr13: [forms]![additem].[description]

additem is the form
description is the textbox field.

Thanks for the help

If Len(txtSearchstring1) = 0 Or IsNull(txtSearchstring1) = True Then
MsgBox "Please enter a first name or portion of the first name"

Else

LSearchString1 = txtSearchstring1

'Filter results based on search string
LSQL = "select * from tblTEMPMEM"
LSQL = LSQL & " where lstnam LIKE ' " & LSearchString & "*'" & " AND fstnam LIKE '" & LSearchString1 & "*'" & ""

Form_frmGroups_sub1.RecordSource = LSQL

'Clear search string

Required Field Error Message

Feb 26, 2005

I have form "Project Log" for my table "Orders". One field "OrderTakenBy" ( text field) is a required field in the table.

In the field properities of OrderTakenBy in the Before Update event I have used the following code:

Private Sub OrderTakenBy_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer)

Dim strMsg As String, strTitle As String
Dim intStyle As Integer

If IsNull(Me!OrderTakenBy) Or Me!OrderTakenBy = "" Then
strMsg = "You must enter your name."
strTitle = "Field Required"
intStyle = vbOKOnly
MsgBox strMsg, intStyle, strTitle
Cancel = True
End If
End Sub

When I first tested it, after trying to leave the field without making an entry-it worked great. Now it seems to have stopped working, I get no message when I leave the field empty.

Detecting A Field Which Cause An Error Message

Jan 21, 2006

I am learning how to create custom error messages.

I know about the "OnError" event of the form, and knows how to replace the standard error message.

I wish access will produce an error message saying something like "You must put a value in field X" (custom made msgbox)

How can I identify this 'field X' which caused the error message to be displayed?

Hope I made myself clear.

Thanks for your comments.

Data Field Entry Error

Sep 4, 2007

Hi,

I've join a small company who uses access to store a route card system. Unforunatly it's partially broken and nobody seems to know how to fix it. Instead of bodging it forever i'm hoping to fix it.

My access knowledge is fairly limited so please keep it simple

The route cards are fairly standard, the primary key beening the route card number, the are various fields material, order date, etc.

The problem is when you enter the data into 3 of these fields access repeats the data to all the forms. At the moment we're having to leave them blank and fill them in by hand, which means we don't have the data on computer.

Anyone know any possible causes for this?

This is giving me a "The Microsoft Access database engine does not recognize 'FORMS!Main!cboArchitecture' as a valid field name or expression' error.

After some research, I have tried adding FORMS!Main!cboArchitecture in the query's parameters as text

Queries :: Calculated Field Error

Nov 4, 2014

I have a several fields, calculated, that break apart a string of text at every open and closed parentheses. They work like they are supposed to with no errors. However, I want to use the result of this particular field in a combo box to populate another combo box with the other half of the string that will be split. The problem, I think, is that since the field is calculated, it will not allow me to select it in the combo box, saying that the field can't be edited.

So, I added the same field names to the table that the query was built on, however when I run the query, it says that there is a syntax error with a comma in the code. If I take out the table in the query, (not using the SQL side, just the query builder), it works again with no problem.The text I am breaking apart looks like this: 1.234(a)(1)(A)(2)(b)(i)(-a-)

I need this field to break the text up at the (1) mark, so the code I am using looks like this:

Code:
PrinSubChap1: IIf([Sub2] Is Null,[PrincipleNumber],Left([PrincipleNumber],InStr(InStr(1,[PrincipleNumber],"(")+3,[PrincipleNumber],")")-0))

The other fields I have do the exact same thing, written the same way, with adjustments made to the position (+3,0).I have stared at this for awhile and can't figure out why it is giving me an error and research on the web doesn't appear to cover my question.

This is the error message: Syntax error (comma) in query expression '[mytable].[IIf([Sub2] Is Null,[PrincipleNumber],Left([PrincipleNumber],InStr(InStr(1,[PrincipleNumber],"(")+3,[PrincipleNumber],")")-0))]

Blank Field Returning Error

Dec 8, 2011

I have some code that is below!

Code:
Public Function DegreeChecker(AGShrs As Integer, ASBAhrs As Integer, ASCJhrs As Integer, AAhrs As Integer) As String
Dim Degree As String
If ((AGShrs = 0) And (ASBAhrs = 0)) Then
Degree = "ASBA"
ElseIf ((AGShrs = 0) And (ASCJhrs = 0)) Then
Degree = "ASCJ"

[code]...

The problem is, the information that is populating the query which is running this code may not be there. As in some of the fields, AA, AGS, ASBA, and ASCJ might be left blank. Unless these four fields are populated by something, it returns #Error instead of the specified number.Is there a way to say, If variable is blank, ignore and continue on to check if the next thing is 0, or if none are 0, state Potential.The information in this query is to be exported out to excel to be used as a Mail Merge file.

Error Checking And Multi Field Searching

Sep 17, 2007

Morning all,

Quick question... I figured out how to make all the searching items work... individually. The problem is is that I want to be able to search with two fields at a time. For example, say i have mo, date, job, pay and i want to seach for the MO and JOB and query the results accordingly. I can't get it to do that. Would I have to make a large If statement? I'm not entirely sure. Also now my problem is that it won't execute my first if statement or I should say it ignores it all togeather. I know it executes the code in the order it is written. If someone could shed some light I would be much apprecative. As always here is the code and attached is the program. What I'm working on is in the query table.

I also would like to be able for it to say if the fields MO and JOB do not comeup witha result for a messege to display there is no result. Or if the field is null not to do anything. I tried doing that in some of my code to no success perhaps I did somthing wrong.

Have a great day!

Dim strSQL As String
Dim sqlStringWHERE As String
Dim strhead As String
Dim strJOIN As String

' strSQL = "SELECT * from Panel WHERE MO like " & Chr$(39) & "*" & Me.qMO & "*" & Chr$(39)
