1 Code To Many Descriptions

Apr 21, 2008

Hi -

I have 4 tables - one is a master list of codes and the master descriptions.
I have 3 other tables (with more coming) that have some of these same codes listed, with different descriptions than the master list.

How can I pull a list of unique master codes, and only one instance of each of the other descriptions?

Codes And Descriptions

Jul 25, 2005

Hi i have designed a database where the users use a combo box to find a particular code they want..for example dog_brown or dog_grey, on the report which i have produced this code for the type of dog shows up to. I have another table which has a column with the code and also the description...eg dog_brown...brown dog. My users have asked me if on the report which i have produced can the description be shown instead of the code. I dont know if this can be done...any help would be grateful. Thanx

Multi Language Iem Descriptions

Nov 7, 2005

I have a table of some 8000 items with a verbose (memo field) description in English. I need to add French and Spanish Item descriptions to some of the items ( but not all of them) and call up the correct description when processing orders and/or invoices. I want the system to automatically supply the english text if the French/Spanish does not exist.

I could go for the easy option of adding a language field to the table, and then simply replicating all 8000 items for french and Spanish and then replace the English text. This would work but probably affect performance.

What I really want is to add foreign descriptions to the table ( as a new item record) as and when they are required, and look for, say, a French Item Description, and if one is there. then use it, else find the fallback English descriptions. Trouble is, I have had no success trying to craft the tables/queries to do this.

I've played with group-by queries to deliver a language code, but run into difficulties with grouping memo fields. Any help or pointers would be much appreciated - I've searched the forum for "multi lingual" and "multi language" with no success, but my apologies if I'm asking an old question.

I'm posting this in tables and queries as I am not sure which forum !!

Thanks for your attention

Queries :: Checking For Special Characters In Descriptions

Mar 12, 2015

I want my to detect special characters in my descriptions that are not found on keyboard and display as error.
Tried using the following

Description check: IIf([Common Description] Is Null Or [Common Description] Not Like "*[!a-z0-9@=.^_$%!#&'`(){|}*?~[]/-]*" And [Description Local] Is Null Or [Description Local] Not Like "*[!a-z0-9@=.^_$%!#&'`(){|}*?~[]/-]*","<<Error Desc>>","OK")

but when i tested it using some data, it shows all as <<Error Desc>>

some of the special characters i want to check for are βuΩ etc.

So if my description contains characters that are not: a-z OR 0-9 or any of the following ~!@#$%^&*()_+=-`][';/.,<>?:"{}|~

it will return <<Error Desc>>

Seeking Help Creating Catalog Database (text Descriptions >255 Char.)

Nov 9, 2005

I am looking to create a catalog database. It is to serve as a finished product warehouse, as well as a product development tool. There are a number of fields, most of which are straight-forward.

One large problem I have is that the product descriptions are roughly 700 characters. Is there a way to have this information entered into Access and stored either in this database or elsewhere?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Exporting Metadata (table Field Descriptions) With Table

Nov 22, 2005

Hello everyone,

I frequnetly need to export tables for others to use. I export them as .csv files usually and I'd like a way to include what I call metadata in the .csv file.

ideally, it would appear on the top of the file before the comma-delimited data actually starts.

I can't figure out how to include the table field descriptions in a file.

any help?

thanks,

Using Code To Unprotect And Protect Viewing Code

Jan 14, 2007

I protect my code from people being able to read it by setting a password on the code from Tools > Properties, selecting the Protection tab and entering a password, and clicking "Lock Project"

Is there a way to write code that will remove that Lock Project check and check it back on?

I've looked through the Application.SetOption command and it doesn't seem to be one of the choices. It would be very helpful if someone knew how to do this.

Thanks

Need Help With Code

Nov 22, 2005

Need a little help here. I have this code on a command button that open a form that displays a chart. The chart work great as long as there is data to display. However, if there is no data then the chart is blank. So what I'm trying to do is add a dcount to catch the 0 and give an error. So the 1st query makes the table where the data for the chart come from. The Qry-Test for Zero query, queries that new table if dcount is 0 it should error.
My problem is that I can't get this to work with the 0 if I make it 1 then I will get the message box if there are no records and if there is 1 record 2 and greater work fine. So my question is why won't the code catch the 0?

Dim stDocName As String
stDocName = "Qry-Makes Table"
DoCmd.OpenQuery stDocName, acNormal ', acEdit

If DCount(" * ", "Qry-Test for Zero") = 0 Then
MsgBox " There is no data for this time frame to chart. Please re-enter your Date range"
Exit Sub
Else

The delete part works OK then the error message arrives, when I run it with a static file path it worked ok, but I want to pick up the path stored in Text1 on my form.

To Code Or Not To Code.

Mar 21, 2007

In the database I am creating a table that houses “subjects’ names” and their “unique IDs”, which are both indexed with no duplicates. The Unique ID is used as a FK to connect all the tables that contain information from the subject. When subjects are enrolled in one of our studies they are assigned a “Unique ID”, which is assigned sequentially. The IDs are alphanumeric, and consists of 4 characters with the first character being a letter:

A001, A002…A999, B001, B002…C001 etc.:

To help avoid data entry errors, I would like to automate the process of assigning these Unique IDs as much as possible. So my question is:

Is it better to manually insert all the possible Unique IDs into this table upfront and then use a code that allows the user to assign the next Unique ID to the subjects they are enrolling (ie search the subject names column for the first null field and enter value there)? Or would it be better to set up a code that looks through the IDs that are already in the list and then automatically generates and assigns the next sequential ID to the person they have entered.

Also, where might I find some pre-established code to get me heading in the right direction?

Thanks in advance!:D

What Does This Code Mean?

Oct 5, 2005

Hi, I'm analyzing a program made with MS Access. It has a whole bunch of tables and queries already made, and a form with lots of code behind it. I'm looking through and I'm not sure what the following means:

With CurrentDb
.QueryDefs("qry_cur_pier").SQL = _
" SELECT DISTINCT RE.AIRPORT_RESOURCE_NAME,
RE.AIRPORT_RESOURCE_KEY " & _
" FROM qry_cur_resource AS RE " & _
" WHERE RE.AIRPORT_RESOURCE_CODE = 'PIER';"

qry_cur_pier appears to be an already existing query. AIRPORT_RESOURCE_NAME and AIRPORT_RESOURCE_KEY are fields in that query. AIRPORT_RESOURCE_CODE is not in the query though. What does the RE. and the AS RE do here? Thanks in advance.

VB Code Help

Sep 20, 2006

Hello,

Is there a way of changing VB code so that ONLYif a statement is true then the command runs.

This is what I currently have:

If Me.chkDoorChoice = True And Me.cboFrontDoorType = "N/A" Or Me.cboFrontDoorColour = "N/A" Or Me.cboRearDoorType = "N/A" Or Me.cboRearDoorColour = "N/A" Or Me.cboAdditionalDoorType = "N/A" Or Me.cboAdditionalDoorColour = "N/A" Then
DoCmd.RunMacro "mcrPleaseNote"
End If

So the command should only run when chkDoorChoice is true. There are occasions when cbofrontdoortype = "N/A" and chkDoorChoice = False and the macro still runs. I dont want this to happen.

Any ideas peeps?
